IC: Ruana Trebond

Ruana had left the suite a little after her husband did. Going looking for him, she found him asking a droid questions about the ship. They sounded like useful things to know, so she simply waited for the conversation to be completed before walking up to him. She didn't want to interrupt his queries, after all.

Finally it seemed to have reached a lull. "So. Where to?" She smiled. "I think the others were heading to one of the cantinas, but I don't mind if we don't catch up with them."

Joss bowed politely to the droid indicating he needed no further assistance just as his wife came walking up right behind him speaking, "So. Where to?"

"Well, Mr. Hunt took rest of our group to one of the nearby Cantinas, so I thought it perhaps a good idea that you and I grab something to eat." he said as he entered the turbolift. Down they would go two levels to the Information Station to retrieve a Spot-On Locater just as the Droid had suggested. "A place called the Arboretum. Botanical-themed restaurant, highly rated by Hunt's remarks."

As the doors opened a short moment later, Joss continued, "If you would like, you could also come along to the Empyreal Casino for the night's festivities. We'll have to meet back at the room beforehand, though; in case there's other takers."

He stopped short of approaching the Information Desk before Ruana's remarks.

"Sound like fun?" he asked casually, but the meaning behind his words would be the equivalent of Do you think this is best?

Stent Kannat
Falling Star cantina

"Ah, yes, of course she would be with the hotel," Stent replied half to himself in a somewhat chastising manner. There goes someone that could have possibly told you more. You could contact her as the barkeep suggested, but talking over an unsecure channel? What an excellent idea. Give more thought to this.

"Yes, perhaps I will have to contact the hotel to give my appreciation," Stent said to the bartender, "I will keep that in mind."

Stent nursed his brandy as he looked at his companions. "How are we doing? Enjoy the moment a while longer and then mosey down to a casino?"

Taking another sip of his drink he nodded, "Sounds like a good idea, maybe find a way for me to have a nice chat with some fellow tinkers." he smiled politly before drinking some more.

Protip: If you leave yourselves standing around without any interaction I can build on, I will either prompt you (a mark of a skillful GM and the intelligent thing to do in this situation) or move you around with the steamroller of plot. Guess which one I'm going to use?

With a plan of action decided, Joss and Ruana headed first for the information station, picking up a second Locator for the group. After that, it was off to the Arboretum for exploration and a late lunch. As expected, the cafe was certainly a shady business, but since they weren't looking for foliage, they could consider the reconnaissance mission foiled. Still, the mixed salad was remarkably fresh, and would speak volumes of the ship's food processing abilities if they were able to keep up such standards even while away from any planets.

Food was eaten, beverages were drunk, and bills were paid, as the agents prepared themselves for a mid-day visit to the casino. Then came the muster drill. Neither entirely unexpected, nor altogether inconvenient, a muster drill was a mandatory naval procedure designed to remind passengers of the procedure for emergency evacuation. In this case, it meant reporting to the nearest escape pod or lifeboat for a few minutes, presumably while the crew ran some sort of head-count. More importantly, it meant that the Empress of the Stars was preparing to leave Coruscant.

Grand Suite 703
Empress of the Stars
Corellia
1600 Standard Coruscant Time
Day 0

The hyperspace flight had been short and uneventful, a brief jaunt along the Corellian Run to the titular system. Past the swirling clouds far below them, the golden brown of the land and the deep blue of the oceans stretched out before them. A temperate world whose inhabitants had been among the first to travel the stars, Corellia was a central figure in every aspect of starship travel, home to the Corellian Engineering company and numerous hyperspace routes. A junction of travel, it was the point of embarkation for almost half of the ship's passengers. Though Corellia could be proud of her golden beaches, rolling hills, thick forests and vast plains, the five-hour stay of the Empress would prevent most of her passengers from experiencing them. Still, below them lay Coronet City, the capital of the system and a major metropolis in its own right. Though it possessed one of the largest spaceports in the sector, there was no way that two kilometers of cruise ship could physically land on the planet, though that wouldn't stop the small army of tenders from ferrying people to and from the Coronet City spaceport. Perhaps Coronet's most notable feature for the purpose of the voyage would be Treasure Ship Row, a large open-air shopping complex that offered just about anything for an intelligent shopper. Would-be bargain-hunters could gather in groups and join official tours while the ship was in port...

...and for an agent, bargains weren't the only thing that could be found in Coronet City.

Stent stood by the window, taking in the beauty of the planet below. This was not the first time that he had seen Corellia, but viewing any planet from space always compelled him to give himself a healthy view.

He turned from the window to look at his fellow agents. "Coronet City and Treasure Ship Row. I think all of us here know the benefit in visiting that destination. Let us get ourselves signed up with a tour, head planetside, and see what enlightening information we can bring out of the dark. Does anyone know someone in particular down there that could provide us something useful?"

IC: Halon,
Grand Suite 703

With their port of call at Corellia now in view, Halon inadvertently found himself reminiscing about his first official mission as a rookie agent of the SGIS. After it was all over, he'd even been made an honorary CorSec officer. And even though it had only been three short years, with everything that happened since then, it may as well have been a lifetime ago. Working for MI5 had a way of opening one's eyes, exposing the secret underside of the galaxy. But even with all of the associated risks, it had proven well worth it.

"Does anyone know someone in particular down there that could provide us something useful?"

Halon pulled himself away from his thoughts and stepped forward.

"I assisted CorSec during a mission here once, Stent. I am sure we can rely on them should the need arise."

Markus Carfax
Grand Suite 703

Corellia. Markus had never liked the place. The entire planet seemed to have some kind of chip on its shoulder- it was like Coruscant's rebellious cousin, all shady dealings and secret assignations. In his opinion, playing up to the criminal element made this place little more than some kind of theme park. As a 'criminal element' himself, he was more than well-placed to comment on this.

"I'd advise against joining a tour." he spoke up from his position at the viewscreen. "Or, if you want to cover that angle, the whole party shouldn't join one. Leave some of us free to go where we want."

Of course, this 'some of us' would definitely include Markus. He didn't fancy being dragged around on a tour of the local hotspots like every other gawping tourist.

Not that he wasn't any less of a gawping tourist, really. He just happened to have a badge.

OOGM:
Just to make things clear, the tour is by no means mandatory, there's nothing stopping you from roaming Coronet City on your own as Markus suggested. The tour is just for "the discriminating shopper who would like insider information on the best places for excellent bargains on this year's hottest items." So if you wish to "shop" on your own time, just hop aboard a shuttle and feel free. Note that if you are not back on time, they will not wait for you.

Speaking of shopping, I forgot to append the bill to my last post. It's small now, but might as well get into the habit of doing things at the beginning of the game.

Empress of the Stars bill: 35 credits
MI5 Account (Markus): 120,000 credits
Ruana's Account: 30,000 credits

The bill from the Empress must be paid at the end of the voyage, but there's nothing stopping you from paying your tab earlier, though since there's no interest, the bill is the same either way.

Casino Royale, the forum's most action-packed accounting simulation!

And, Jango...

Suggestions for character building:
  • You will be visiting several planets. If your character has connections or resources on those planets, it would be smart of you to let me know now. No, I will not be telling you where you're going until after you guys submit your characters. So this is your chance to be clever.

  • I recognize that you have past experiences with CorSec, but I have not seen either evidence of any sort of honorary officer status, nor anything that would merit it, thus in the spirit of not pulling things out of our hats, the honorary officer status is denied. If I have overlooked an important post where such status was awarded, please correct my mistake. When it comes to things like connections, equipment and skills, this game is about being clever and rewarding those who are prepared.

Since we have numbers, perhaps it would be best to split up? Ryn and I, Markus and Joss, Halon and Ruanna? Better suggestions appreciated."

    IC as Joss Vendu

He had finally tore his eyes away from the viewport window in a flash of puzzlement at Stent's suggestion which was followed by an irritated understanding at what was going on. Apparently, him and Carfax were paired together. Joss couldn't tell if this was some cruel joke. Great. My own personal tour guide through all nine Corellian hells.

On the other hand, Markus had his uses in bypassing electronic inconveniences, so the pairing wasn't completely without merit, and if the hacker got into a scruff, Joss could help him out as well without resorting to blaster bolts.

"Since Corellia's fame lends itself to the Galaxy's finest smugglery types," he stated, "perhaps we could refine part of our search for any new goods or people coming on to the ship?"

"Also anybody throwing their weight around to contract the locals into targeting a Cruise ship. We could question any smugglers you all might be in contact with. It's a big Galaxy after all."

Tier 1 (Awesome): Stent, Boz, Ryn
    Tier 2 (Good): Markus, Ruana
Tier 3 (yeah, right): Halon, Joss

If you've got any plans or angles of attack, now would be an entirely appropriate time to mention them.
