Treasure Ship Row. From the spaceport, it was only a brief bus trip away (free with presentation an Empress key chip), dropping them off in a bustling commercial complex. At its core, Treasure Ship Row was a large, open-air shopping mall, with walkways, outdoor cafes, restaurants and muti-story shops selling items ranging from clothing to antiques to electronics. As if that weren't enough, the walkways and clearings were home to a bazaar of street vendors, filling the air with the sounds of offers and haggling, as well as the smell of freshly cooked foodstuffs. Some seemed to be just as much performers as vendors, such as the large saurian being running a refreshment stand, exhaling a cloud of flame into the pan containing his wares, before tossing the contents into air and letting them land on the plates of his enthralled customers. Meanwhile, landspeeders hummed and muttered as they cruised down the streets, ranging from one-man HVP Hover Shoppers to luxury rides such as an ornate wheeled vehicle propelled by thruster engines. Scattered throughout the area were green-uniformed men and women instantly recognizable as part of the Corellian Security Force, keeping an eye on vendors and shoppers alike.

Markus Carfax as Andriy Hunt
Coronet City

"Very well mister Hunt, what was it you had in mind?"

Markus looked around furtively before replying.

"Seeing as how I'm the only one who was smart enough to keep his ID, we're dropping in on CorSec." he muttered, walking with Boz to the nearest transport. "I figure they'll know stuff about Corellia we couldn't hope to find in four hours, especially if they give me access to their database."

He squinted up at the glowing sign above his head.

"Space taxi?" he asked Boz, louder this time. "I'll pay for it, Mister Tyler, considering the unfortunate theft of your wallet."

Coronet City, Blue Nova Cantina
IC as Joss Vendu

Joss realized he was sticking out rather obviously when the other cantina patrons came into a dimly lit view. Instantly he felt like a herd animal meandering it's way across ground littered with predators at the ready. Especially the ones playing sabaac, he noticed quietly to himself. Through the smoke filled air, he tried to project a more grim edge to his posture to discourage the lowest of the low life from taking an aggressive interest in their business.

The cool blue light that accented the multi-pointed star above the center of bar lit up everything around including just the man Joss Vendu was looking for now. Keeping his gaze fixed on the local shockball holocast playing off to his left, he meandered casually close to the barkeep... but not too close.

The bald, bearded human male before him had been acquainted with Vendu much earlier as the result of an investigation into a Trandoshan led and Hutt Cartel financed (also allegedly tied to Trade Federation interest, but conveniently never proven) organ trafficking operation out of Alaris Prime using a slave population as it's forced donors. His name had once been Jard Bask, a fairly skilled smuggler in his day before time as a hauler for Solferin Shipping company.

However after Vendu caught up with a frantic Jard in mid-shipment, the smuggler was apprehended and gladly informed on his former employers' highly illegal activities with some minor persuasion from the agent. He had asked nicely afterall.

In exchange, MI5 had made the man known as Jard Bask a thing of the past with a handy relocation and job change. Doubtful Bask appreciated not getting to fly ever again.

"What do you want?" he muttered through clenched teeth.

Well, Joss wasn't expecting hugs and kisses in the first place anyway. He kept an eye on the shockball game with faked interest as he kept his voice low but full of pleasantness, "Just a water and a bit of information. Something maybe you could help me with, friend."

"Just a water and a bit of information. Something maybe you could help me with, friend."

Without taking his eyes from the agent, the barkeep pulled out a blue glass and filled it with water, sliding it over to the agent with a flick of the wrist. Given his disgruntled expression, it was almost a surprise that he didn't spit in it first.

"This one's on the house, friend... but if you're looking for a tour guide, you've come to the wrong man. Perhaps one of these other gentlemen might be willing to help you."

On the other side of the bar, the Toydarian patron raised a hand.

"You'll want to see the Zoological Gardens. Fun for the whole family!" he offered.

Jard seemed less than thrilled by the intrusion.

IC: Halon (as Serik),
Treasure Ship Row

Figuring Stent's plan to be as good as any, Halon dutifully followed behind the Zeltron in his role as bodyguard. Pausing to take stock of their exotic new surroundings for a moment, the Ubese agent turned to him.

"Colorful enough then, eh Stent? Just stand here for a moment and affect the air of a hopelessly lost tourist."

Navigating his way through the congestion, he came to one of the outdoor vendors a few meters from their position. While Halon may have been the last being in the system one would ever turn to for reliable fashion advice, even he was having a hard time believing that all of this particular vendor's garments were really (according to the sign) "100% qashmel!"

After giving a conspiratorial glance around for any signs of the law, Halon knocked on the kiosk and leaned in closer to the owner. "Spice?" he inquired in a low voice.

IC as Joss Vendu

"This one's on the house, friend... but if you're looking for a tour guide, you've come to the wrong man. Perhaps one of these other gentlemen might be willing to help you."

The reception was just as cold as the water according to Vendu. He took a long sip as the nearby Toydarian spoke helpfully trying to solve the supposed tourists' plight, "You'll want to see the Zoological Gardens. Fun for the whole family!" he offered.

Joss turned an equally friendly smile back, shrugged, and replied, "Thanks, but allergies and all." No such thing was the case, but better the bystander be easily rebuffed to maintain some kind of anonymity. Vendu then brought himself a bit closer to Jard bringing the conversation between just the two at a whisper, "I believe your professional expertise will suffice for what I need."

"You should take that trash out back. Looks full to me," he said pointing behind the bar. That also wasn't true in the slightest, however; Jard could take the hint easily, "Meet you there for a smoke." Joss wasn't asking.

He downed a majority of his beverage suddenly feeling his present surroundings were not intimate enough against eavesdroppers, and walked out of the front casually, careful to get a good look at beings at the sabaac table trying to discern their demeanor and body language. If they or anyone else dared to make themselves a nuisance, he would rather deal with the situation in a cramped alleyway where few eyes would be focused. Also, it helped when you couldn't be surrounded either.

Glad he wasn't alone, Joss asked Ruana in hushed tones after exiting the cantina if she would be a dear and switch on her field disruptor for the moment.

Treasure Ship Row

Seeing as neither he nor Stent had any better ideas, Halon decided to go for a shot in the dark, approaching the owner of a stand of fine garments.

Glancing around to avoid any eavesdroppers, he spoke softly to the veiled vendor.

"Spice?"

Only the being's eyes were visible, darting around as if to avoid looking directly at Halon's helmet.

"I'm sorry traveler," came the strangely machine-tinted voice (a vocalizer, perhaps?), "but you will not find any assistance here."

Blue Nova Cantina

"You should take that trash out back. Looks full to me... Meet you there for a smoke."

Jard glared at the agent for several long seconds, clearly weighing his options. Swearing under his breath, he turned towards a dark corner of the room.

"Maronea, watch the bar for a few minutes. I need to catch up with someone."

A tall, slender being arose from the shadowy corner, a sleek-furred alien wearing a dark vest, a thick tail waving behind her as she walked. A Selonian, one of the native species of the Corellian sector, the alien's large build and rippling muscles beneath her pelt indicated that she was probably some form of security. As she passed the agents, she waved a paw-like hand, extending a set of unpleasant-looking claws for the briefest of moments.

As Jard headed for the back of the cantina, Joss Vendu and his companions headed out the front, Joss attempting to steal a closer look at the sabacc players- two humans, a Rodian, a Givin, and a small rodent-like being. Unfortunately, they seemed to be actively blocking any attempts to look at either their hands or the pot, and he was starting to realize that it was somewhat difficult to get handle on the players of a game whose chief component was bluffing. However, he was able to deduce that their behavior seemed guarded.

In the alleyway behind the cantina, Jard was waiting.

One CorSec Plaza

The headquarters of the Corellian Security Force was a rather uninteresting cube of a building, a large boxy structure located in the heart of Coronet, some ten credits away. The lobby was surprisingly empty, with only a single human guard to watch the rows of chairs and occasional potted plant lined up along the walls. Markus and Boz approached the receptionist, a multi-limbed humanoid droid behind a sheet of transparisteel that seemed to be rooted to the ground in front of the array of terminals before it.

"Good afternoon sirs, welcome to the headquarters of the Corellian Security Force. I am CS-01, how may we be of service?"

Coronet City, Alley behind the Blue Nova
IC as Joss Vendu

Perhaps it was a slight case of paranoia that had Joss Vendu a bit uneasy. He couldn't get much of any kind of read on the multi-species group from the sabaac table, but maybe that was the point. Gambling large stakes of credits plus a seedy cantina often had everyone on their guard.

Feeling more confidence with the knowledge of his wife's handy disruptor present, Vendu caught up with Jard near the back entrance to the Nova's kitchen. He looked the alley way up and down to assure they had privacy, satisfied his suspicions were quelled. The man somehow managed to look even more visibly angry than before.

"Charming security personnel back there," he said sarcastically about the Selonian. "Look, I could use some information so if you could unclench that jaw long enough to talk, I'll be out of your hair."

"Seeing how you're employed as an informer i'm certain you still have your ear to the ground on local underground in this quaint corner of the galaxy," he said scraping a loose piece of trash from the bottom of his boot. "I want to know what you've been hearing about someone trying to get anything on or around a Cruise Liner. Name Empress of the Stars."

"Anyone hiring out crews or muscle? Someone trying to move some hush hush cargo past Port Authority or Corsec?"

Stent was taken aback by Halon's bluntness and aggressiveness. It was not the approach that he was aiming for, but Stent figured that Halon had a better sense of how the rougher part of galaxy operated and this might get them something. Stent's curiosity was piqued by the seemingly cautious, nervous vendor. Everyone is a suspect nowadays.

He moved in beside his companion, smiling at the vendor and looking at his goods. The goods were not the topic of discussion.

"Well then," Stent responded to the vendor, still smiling but speaking quietly, "where would ones such as us find assistance?"

Markus Carfax
One CorSec Plaza, Corellia

"Good afternoon sirs, welcome to the headquarters of the Corellian Security Force. I am CS-01, how may we be of service?"

Markus held up a hand for a moment's pause and fiddled with his datapad to open the thin drawer inside that concealed his MI5 ID. Not the most impressive way to open the conversation, but the agent figured that anything more flashy would be wasted on a droid anyway. Eventually, he managed to extricate his badge and held it up for the receptionists' photoreceptors, putting on his best Agent Face to add to the effect.

"My name is Agent Carfax of MI5, and this is my identification. I want to speak to your organised crime department."

The hacker knew he may be taking a gamble here, but at least if he was fiddled by CorSec MI5 would be able to trace it back later. Besides, the other agents were most likely trying to ineptly comb the Corellian underworld for clues. The crime bosses were probably already alerted or something.

Name Empress of the Stars. Anyone hiring out crews or muscle? Someone trying to move some hush hush cargo past Port Authority or Corsec?"

Jard's mood wasn't improving.

"I want to know what makes you think I'm your infochant. I'm just a man who runs a cantina and listens to his customers talk. While half of the thieves in the city may be rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of the influx of low-hanging wallets, but if anyone's planning anything big, they certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to talk about. CorSec is out in force today, anyone targeting the ship itself would have to have a death wish. That's all."

Treasure Ship Row

Seeing as Agent Halon had set off the merchant by ambling up and asking questions about subjects that were liable to get you arrested in such an environment, Stent decided he'd try a tactful approach, by pressuring him further (but with a smile).

"Well then, where would ones such as us find assistance?"

It wasn't helping.

"Go away," the merchant muttered, "you will not find any assistance here."

As a Zeltron, Stent's natural abilities included empathy, the ability to read a target to determine his or her emotional state. In this case, the alien vendor was borderline afraid of the two agents, nervously glancing around in search of something... likely a solution to his predicament.

One CorSec Plaza

"My name is Agent Carfax of MI5, and this is my identification. I want to speak to your organised crime department."

"One moment sir" said the droid, before standing in silence (most likely conversing with someone further in building).

"Please wait here sir" it said, gesturing to the seats along the wall. Two minutes later, the door next to the droid's booth opened, and a gray-haired human male in his early sixties beckoned them to follow him. Leading the two agents through a series of corridors, he finally opened the door to a small room, barren except for a square table with four chairs surrounding it.

"Have a seat" he said, gesturing towards a pair of chairs as he sat down on the other side of the table.

"Tell me Mister Carfax," he said as he folded his hands on the table, "what brings you to Coronet?"

The famous Zeltron charm had failed to loosen the vendor's tongue (that is, if it indeed had one) and Halon didn't think threatening an apparently (semi)legitimate merchant would help them unearth any interesting mischief. Not in the small time they had here anyway. And not when the Row offered so many other endless possibilities.

Already scanning the area for riper targets, Halon turned toward Stent, feigning annoyance.

"I thought I told you I would handle this," he said irritably. "Let us go, this one is worthless."

"Good day," Stent said to the vendor before turning away with Halon. That went nowhere fast, he thought. That vendor was too scared to talk, regardless if he knew anything, and might have sicked CorSec on them if they had stayed any longer.

Stent folded his arms as they walked, looking at the vendors about them. "I was thinking of going someplace else," he said quietly to Halon. "I am thinking of the more seedier areas outside of Treasure Ship Row. That is what the Blue Sector really is, anyway. I think we would have better chance at finding what we are looking for."

"Or," Stent added, "we could go into one of the social establishments here, a cantina or a club, and see what we find in there. What are your thoughts?"

And just what in blazes are we looking for? Halon thought to himself.

"Or, we could go into one of the social establishments here, a cantina or a club, and see what we find in there. What are your thoughts?"

Halon sighed lightly, feeling his natural pessimism bubbling to the surface once more. "Those are all valid ideas, Stent," he said with a slight wave of his hand for emphasis. "And that is precisely our problem. This is Corellia. Place us anywhere within a fifty-kilometer radius of this location and we can find more corruption in five minutes than we could possibly ever know what to do with..."

He lowered his head in thought for a a short moment.

"Hmm...there are a number of well-known brothels located in this vicinity...They were always the first places the pirates headed to after landing."

He looked back up at Kannat blankly and shrugged. "You decide."

Markus fought the urge to give this stuffed shirt a mouthful of snark as he sat down. The agent knew that this was the time to make a good impression- and he was, unfortunately, the only agent present who could prove who he was. Therefore, he couldn't afford to be obstructive. No doubt Boz'rir was marvelling that Carfax had managed to keep his mouth more or less shut for so long.

"My colleague and I are currently working undercover on the Empress of the Stars- that big cruise ship that's just docked. Apparently it's at the centre of something big in the underworld, and that's why we're here. I'd like to know anything going round the Corellian underworld at the moment that's connected to the ship or the spaceport."
