RE: Casino Royale
The Pit
Joss Vendu wasn't really expecting the man to take him up on his offer and surrender, so it was no real surprise that the spy showed no signs of even considering it.
"
Unusual talk for a tourist.
" Vendu could practically hear the hooded figure smile. It wasn't hard to imagine why.
The woman was presently trying to extract her arms from beneath the pile, in order to gain both leverage and room to move.
"Ma'am, fault is such a fluid kind of word really. Besides he's the one up there with all the heavy metal readily available to tumble down and pelt us indiscriminately."
"Well, pardon my bluntness, but if you were better at making friends, I wouldn't be caught in their ambushes, so I must insist that the burden of blame rest primarily on your shoulders."
It was hard to tell if the agent was paying attention as he hefted the engine to the point where it was perpendicular to the woman's prone form. Above him, the spy had gone into motion, cloak whirling as his leg swept out, scattering a small squadron of scrap and sending it sliding down the soiled slope. The cloak was a distraction- the man was going for a weapon. Vendu had a moment to act before he brought it to bear.
Coronet City Spaceport
In between his own legs and the sponsored public transportation for
Empress
passengers, it was neither difficult nor expensive for Boz to find himself at the spaceport again. The more difficult part would be to actually gain access to the area where the cargo was handled. Once passengers turned over their luggage to the spaceport staff, it would be sent back to the baggage room where it would be sorted and sent aboard the respective ships. In the case of cargo for the
Empress
, they'd inevitably wind up aboard shuttles and sent to the glistening liner tens of thousands of kilometers above them. For security reasons, they wouldn't just let people walk in- he'd have to be clever about it.

Stent Kannat
The Pit
Stent dashed out of the cab towards Halon, comm in hand. "Right, let's go where he probably landed," he said breathlessly as he started running towards that direction, trying to figure the best way there through the piles of junk and at the same time keeping a look out for the spy and any other creatures of the Pit.
He raised his comm and spoke quickly: "Sonjir, Stent, location/status."

Joss Vendu
At this moment in time it seemed the whole Galaxy was clamoring for a moment of Vendu's attention. Between the girl yammering about blaming her rescuer and the spy trying to kill him with smugness, Joss had almost not noticed Stent trying reach him about his current whereabouts.
He spoke up into the registry range of his ear comm, "Status: severely
karked
! Location: seems to be the fourth junk mountain from my entry point." No sooner had he finished his exclamation than a whirl of motion pulled his eyes to the top of hill at his attacker and the falling debris.
By now the swoop was at a right angle to the woman's figure. Vendu had it between them and their assailant as an impromptu shield despite his lack of confidence in it's effectiveness for his safety. With the bulk of the weight precariously balanced against the slope of the hill, Joss wasn't about to try and hold it there only to be driven back into him. Instead he shouted, "Get down!" his voice full of frustration anyway at the woman's slow progress in finally getting herself out from under the engine as he dropped his weight on top of her. Sure it was for her own good against the falling bits of metal, but it was slightly satisfying all the same because it pushed her face first back into the rubble with a muffled
Ooohf
!.
In the next instant he pulled his blaster with a snap of practiced speed and squeezed a blaster bolt back at the spy hoping to knock him backward.

The Pit
Everything seemed to happen at once as Joss Vendu called in his position, and his target sent a clattering rolling pile of assorted objects tumbling down the slope as he moved for a weapon. With little time to act, he went on the defensive, knocking the woman down further into her pile of parts and ducking for cover behind the swoop engine, taking some small pleasure in driving her into the dirt. The insignificant avalanche tumbled past his position, rolling over and around the prone woman with no real damage inflicted.
Vendu drew, his hold-out blaster clearing his belt as he snapped off a shot, sending a crimson bolt streaking towards the agressor before the other man could finish drawing his own blaster. But the shot went wide, clearing the target's right side by a good twenty centimeters, lancing into the afternoon sky like a signal flare.
Even though it had been a miss and had failed to dislodge the spy, the bolt wasn't entirely without effect. The man had utterly ceased drawing his weapon, his hands instead moving to his cloak as he whirled about. But his maneuver wasn't as agile as it was swift, the hem of the cloak catching on one of the new outcroppings made by his dead-fall, pulling the black garment loose. He turned his head away, but the damage was already done; Vendu had seen his face. He was a human male, dark-haired, light skinned, smooth-shaven, thin featured, and though Joss could not make out the exact color of the man's eyes from this distance, they were most certainly light.
"
Another time, tourist.
"
The hood snapped back as the man disappeared behind the hill. Before Joss could leap up in pursuit, he was once again interrupted.
"DON'T. MOVE." said the woman, her voice fraught with urgency. "Your friend left us an AP mine."
With minimal movement Joss turned his head, taking a glance back behind him. Sure enough, sitting amidst the debris in front of the female was a flat black octagonal disc with a shiny black sensor. Moving too much or too quickly would be sure to set it off. He was forced to re-evaluate his earlier assessment of the situation: the cloak had been a distraction, but it seemed as though the drawing of a weapon was a diversion as well. In all likelihood, the spy had probably been hoping that the mine would go off as Vendu made his attack, but it seemed as though he had miscalculated the safety period before the motion sensor was activated. Still, it made an effective deterrent. If an explosive was detonated in the middle of Blue Sector, injuries and death would be the least of Joss Vendu's worries.

Coronet,
The Pits
IC as
Joss Vendu
As the spy turned and his cloak dropped to the dirt, Joss astutely clicked a small button on the side of his visor as a still of the features belonging to a cleanly shaven, dark haired human male filled a square of his visor's picture-in-picture image. He heard the man spout,
"Another time, tourist."
The spy pulled his hood back into place a dove off the other side of the pile to affect an escape as Joss Vendu tried to stir himself into pursuit until something caught him.
It was two simple words that stilled him,
"DON'T. MOVE."
The woman that had insistently badgered him moments earlier now voiced a very different sort of mood.
Fright
.
"Your friend left us an AP mine."
Before Joss could ask himself just how in the world a civilian could pick out an anti-personnel mine from all the other assorted junk in the area, he turned to see the tell-tale eight-sided piece of metal with a motion sensor attached at the top. He growled to himself in frustration as he realized he had been played from his first step into the Pit. Now if he made the wrong kind of move, the story of MI5 Agent Joss Vendu would have a very explosive ending to it.
Refusing to let the human spy get away this easily, Joss commed Halon and Stent, "The bastard's on the move and I'm... uh, pinned down at the moment." He didn't want either of them to compromise catching the spy just because he got himself into a bad spot. "Human male, dark hair, clean shaven, lightly colored eyes. Heading in same direction as the blaster bolt you should've seen earlier."
In the meantime, Joss looked at the woman and asked a very pertinent question, "You're not a civilian are you?"

Ryn, already worried by the single blaster bolt he'd seen earlier, ran past the entrance at his fastest pace when Joss's voice came over the team frequency,
"The bastard's on the move and I'm... uh, pinned down at the moment. Human male, dark hair, clean shaven, lightly colored eyes. Heading in same direction as the blaster bolt you should've seen earlier."
His eyes widened in surprise at agent Vendu's revelation ,and he adjusted his heading accordingly to try to catch up with their quarry.

The Pit
Stent heard and saw the bolt shoot up from a few piles ahead of him and Halon, and he thought he might have seen something on top of that pile.
"Is that our guy," he said to Halon as he changed course to that direction. "I couldn't tell!" Images of a dead agent ran through Stent's mind, and that made him no more comfortable with their situation.
"The bastard's on the move and I'm... uh, pinned down at the moment. Human male, dark hair, clean shaven, lightly colored eyes. Heading in same direction as the blaster bolt you should've seen earlier."
"Right," Stent called out over the comm. "Let's go," he called out to Halon as he picked up speed and changed course to where it was likely that their quarry was heading.

IC: Halon,
The Pit
"Let's go!"
Halon proceeded on with Stent, racing toward the general area where the shot had been fired. The situation was still chaotic, but at least now they knew that Vendu (along with their mystery suspect) was close...
Spying an ideal vantage point ahead of him on the summit of a particularly large junk mound, Halon slowed to a stop.
"Continue on, Stent," he called to the Zeltron. "I am going to see if I can't find a better view up there."
Halon set his pipe-club down and made a quick appraisal of the heap, testing its stability and locating footholds he could use before nimbly launching up its slope. He made quick work of it and upon reaching the top he crouched down, scanning in a wide arc for any sign of movement in Stent's path...

You'd think Joss could have fit a "suspect is armed and dangerous" in the description somewhere.
The Pit
With a new destination called in and the shot of a blaster bolt to mark it, Halon and Stent went running in the direction that Joss had last seen the suspect flee, just as Ryn entered the scrapyard and began dashing towards the same point.
Rounding another hill, the two agents split up, Stent darting forward as Halon broke off to scale a pile of junk, his swift pace scattering debris as he moved to up to crouch at the top. Secure in both his position and his strategy, he had an unparalleled view of the ensuing mayhem below.
As Stent ran towards the next pile, his keen agent senses noticed a clue indicating that he was on the right track. Specifically, it was the silver and black ovaloid form of a grenade hurtling towards him. Unfortunately, as he was also hurtling towards
it
, there was little time to dodge. The concussive blast slammed into Stent, sending the agent staggering in a whirl of light and sound. From his vantage point, Halon could see what the half-dazed Zeltron could not; a black-clad arm had lobbed a second grenade right behind the first before retreating behind the junk pile. The resulting blast threw him to the dirt with a thud that was no where nearly as loud as the preceding explosions. As Halon got ready to launch himself into action, he realized that there seemed to be a larger crowd of speeders outside The Pit than he had remembered. He also realized that Stent... wasn't moving.
OOGM:
I think that plan worked out rather well.
After rattling off a description for his co-workers, Joss had turned to his fellow cell mate at the munitions penitentiary.
"You're not a civilian are you?"
"I'd have to say I'm as much of a civilian as you are," she calmly replied. "And if any of your civilian friends have a security kit and are trained in explosive ordinance disposal, their aid would be more than welcome."
A one-two chain of explosions echoed through the junkyard.
"Provided they're still alive, of course... Better make it double-time, we're going to be drowning in CorSec officers within the next few minutes."

IC: Halon,
The Pit
Halon reached the top, but it was too late. Before he could even voice the warning, successive grenade blasts sent his partner sprawling. A ripple of horror shot down his spine as Halon looked down on the Zeltron's suddenly still form.
Stent!
his mind roared silently.
Seeing where the attacker had retreated, the Ubese agent leapt off the mound, landing on the hard dirt with a roll, by now so full of rage that he barely noticed the impact. Rising to his feet, he once again hefted the pipe he'd left at the base of the junk pile and flattened against it, intently listening for any sound of the cur with the amplified acoustics of his helmet...
We have to settle this quickly...the new arrivals will be here shortly...
Halon just hoped Ryn and Ruanna would be among them.

Coronet,
The Pit
IC as
Joss Vendu
His fellow captive made it quite clear she was no random yokel poking about chance places and that Vendu, no matter what he could've said, was much the same. It was her prompt for assistance with a security kit that sparked Joss's memory. Ryn had been issued such a thing.
He called out to Ryn, "Solass, perhaps you could lend me a hand? Please tell me you're carrying that security kit."
In mid-stride Ryn corrected his course at the sound of Agent Vendu's request. "Well, I guess so. It is on my way afterall." he replied in something less than the serious manner such tasks required.
Joss wouldn't have to wait long, because Ryn was almost right on top of them in an instant since he had been in the vicinity tracking down the spy. With the motion sensor's field of veiw stuck solely on Joss and his partner in entrapment, Ryn cautiously crept over to the mine with security kit in hand beginning his work. "I imagine this is not part of the plan, right?" he asked.
"Standard operating procedure didn't you know?" Joss shot back. In his mind he was thanking a myriad of deities for Ryn's timely aid. "Look," he started, "if things go south, you need to snatch my visor. I captured the face of our gracious host for this predicament. You're gonna need it in case he gets away."
Ryn wouldn't even acknowledge that possibility, "You mind!? Trying to save your hide here, Vendu." He really didn't intend to scold the agent, just trying to maneuver around the awkward 'hey, if I don't make it...' dialogue as he attempted to disarm this very volitale piece of ordinance.
Feeling the need to break a bit of the tension and gather some information, Joss kept up his line of questioning with the female to his side, "So you aren't Corsec. Then who are you affiliated with and why are you hunting the spy? Some how I don't think you are trying to collar him for unpaid speeder tickets."

The Pit
With no time to waste, Halon made a speedy descent from the top of the heap, picking up his makeshift club and hiding himself in the shadows as he listened for his opponent. The large pile blocked many direct sounds, but with a combination of his helmet's technology and his own keen senses, he noticed a faint scrabbling clatter coming from somewhere off to the right. It seemed to be moving away.
OOGM:
Nice roll
With Joss' call, he only had to wait a few moments before the Balosar was quickly upon them. Fortunately, he wasn't so quick that he wasn't able to spot the mine. Drawing the MI5-issued datapad, he ran a finger along the seam as the technician had demonstrated, causing the device to unfold, revealing a wide variety of tools used for bypassing electronic and mechanical systems. While he didn't have much in the way of experience disarming explosives, he was familiar enough with locks and sensors to attempt to blind the device. Slowly crawling forward, he managed to reach the mine without setting it off, reaching towards the shiny black motion sensor as he bantered with his fellow agent.
Once Ryn began working, Joss let up on the conversation to avoid distracting him, instead turning to the female nearby.
"So you aren't Corsec. Then who are you affiliated with and why are you hunting the spy? Some how I don't think you are trying to collar him for unpaid speeder tickets."
"I'm not collaring anyone- I still haven't even seen the guy. The only reason I'm here is that your friend dropped a hill on me thinking I was you. Besides, I've been respectful enough to avoid asking what you're doing skulking around The Pit with advanced tech, it would be rude of you not to offer the same courtesy."
Ryn carefully removed the motion sensor, setting it aside. The mine was still live, but the detonator was waiting for a signal that would never come.
"Gentlemen, I'm afraid I must take my leave now" she said, knocking material aside as she squirmed forward. She rose unsteadily to her feet before hobbling forward.
"I have a medical kit in my speeder. If either of you kind sirs would help me out and stop with the questions, I'll give you a lift to wherever you need to go."

IC: Halon,
The Pit
Halon thought he detected the grenadier's movements somewhere off to his right. He didn't know whether his prey was trying to escape or lure him into a trap, but either way he was determined to catch up with him.
Deciding it was worth it to break cover, he sped over to where Stent lay. He didn't come to see how the agent was doing. Though he may have hated it (and hated himself for it), Halon knew there was no point in trying to carry an injured or incapacitated man out while their enemy was still at large. It would make for an all too tempting target...Instead, Halon found what he'd really come for: the stun weapon the Zeltron had dropped in the dirt.
Remain strong, Stent Kannat...
Moving on as silently as he could, Halon snaked around to the left, hoping to outflank the suspect, the stunner before him in his right hand while he continued to grip the lowered pipe in his left. With any luck, he could track this black-clad man via his footprints in the dirt.
Apprehensively, he cast around a glance around the pile where Stent had been approaching, where he thought the sounds had come from...

I'll stop springing ambushes if you guys stop walking into them.
The Pit
Faced with a grenade-wielding spy with a penchant for ambushes and effectively being the only agent around who could stand a shot at capturing him, Halon opted to pursue, stopping only to loot the body of his downed companion to acquire a slightly-less-pitiful weapon.
Emboldened by his new acquisition, he snuck off around the left-most refuse hill, staring over at the ground behind the right one in order to look for any signs of his prey. Magnifying his view, he noticed a scattering of small rocks, recently disturbed.. but without any fresh cavities or footprints anywhere nearby. The rocks had been tossed there as part of a diversion, creating the cascade of sounds that he had noticed earlier. It seemed Halon's earlier analysis was correct, his prey
was
trying to lure him into a trap. The only question was... where had the man gone?
The answer hit the agent like a thunderbolt. Even through his helmet, his head smarted from the impact. Immediately afterwards, the follow-up blow came between the shoulder blades, a surge of energy that sent spasms through his limbs. With his vision consisting of sparkling flashes amidst a dark void, the dazed Ubese had the briefest moment to wonder if he had gone blind, before realizing that the spy had draped his cloak over the agent's helmet. With limbs twitching, head pounding, eyes flashing and sensors obscured, Halon had only moments to act before his prey would continue bludgeoning him to the ground.
OOGM:
I think you guys might want to stage an intervention or something when you get back to the ship. Because if agents keep listening to their suicidal urges, I may just decide to indulge them.

IC: Halon,
The Pit
The sight that now greeted Halon around the edge of the junk-hill served to confirm his darkest suspicions: the suspect hadn’t been retreating at all, and worse yet, knew where Halon was…
Tensing, Halon paused to adjust the setting on Stent’s weapon to its highest power level.
“Hrhk!”
As he reeled from the sudden, savage blow, a simple thought raced through some portion of Halon’s aching mind alongside something that nearly resembled admiration:
so quiet!
Whether his adversary was finally out of explosives or had simply decided that he liked the idea of getting personal, Halon couldn’t guess. The second impact followed soon afterward, and he sunk to his knees in the dirt. As his body spasmed, he lost his grip on the pipe, even as he clenched the weapon in his right hand tighter. He activated the stunner, waiting for the charge to build and wondering just how it was he’d lost his vision.
No, it is his cloak…
Now momentarily blinded, Halon willed himself to focus long enough to grab a handful of the cloak and twist it away, his comm-stunner now ready.
Though racked with pain and seeing stars, Halon coursed with adrenalin and determination. Their foe had finally stopped running, even better, had engaged him in close quarters, and Halon fully intended to intercept the next blow and tag him with the stunner...

The force of the blows brought the agent to his knees, robbing him of both vision and armament. Pulling the cloak from his helmet, he faced his adversary, ready to intercept the next blow and counter-attack. As the other man lunged with his staff, Halon certainly managed to pull of the first part of his plan, the blow catching him below the collarbone and sending him reeling as another blast of energy surged through the weapon's tip. The repeated blows were too much, even for him. Halon staggered and fell... forward? Sideways? He couldn't tell. In a distant corner of his mind, he was aware that he had collided with something, had heard the discharge of the comm stunner... but the ground was calling now, and he just didn't have it in him to resist. Halon fell again, into the dirt and into unconsciousness.
OOGM:
I still can't believe that attack actually hit. Two agents down, only Ryn and Joss left on the field. Bojangles, the fate of the mission rests on your decisions.
