Stent Kannat

This Nexus did not think that they were average "information gathering specialists." No; from their performance in the pit, he probably thought they were sub-average "information gathering specialists." The thought that they gooned up their encounter so horribly angered Stent, especially how he let his own excitement replace his common sense and almost ended up getting him killed.

Stent smirked at Ryn's move. He was never sure what the quirky agent would do next.

"We enjoyed your hospitality; thank you," he said to the voice/Nexus. He smiled at Inyri. He took - ack, stiff shoulder! - the comm that she held in her hand and placed it in his jacket pocket. "Thank you, Miss Inyri. Do take care."

With that he exited out the speeder and stood next to Ryn. He tumbled the comm with his hand in his pocket. Taking a look at it back at their room would probably not be a bad idea. It containing a tracking device was not inconceivable, nor it containing some other information that may be useful.

So, with first Ryn, and then Stent getting out of the speeder, Markus figured that the decision was pretty much out of his hands. However, for once he agreed with his colleagues. This Nexus character was one of those shadowy underworld types of the sort that usually gave MI5 a bit of a headache, and as such it was best not to encourage him. Otherwise he might provoke, oh, let's say a pointless chase over three or four different planets culminating in a shoot-out inside a complex disguised as an abandoned block of flats on Nar Shadda.

Anyway, deciding to follow Stent and Ryn's cues, he took his leave of Nexus and Inyri and clambered out into the golden early evening of Coronet.

"Well, if you lot ever want to change jobs, you certainly can't go back there." he observed cheerfully.

"Well, if you lot ever want to change jobs, you certainly can't go back there."

"Their medical plan is enticing, though," replied Stent as he carefully padded his chest, testing the soreness. "Instant treatment of injuries. Although they did not give me anything for the morning and that I will certainly wish they did."

As a shot of pain came from a sore spot on his chest, so did a thought enter his mind. "Where is Master Tyler? I thought he was with you?"

Stent's grammar was slightly garbled (probably due to his recent injuries, although Markus was far from sympathetic) but something that he had said triggered a slightly guilty feeling in the hacker.

"Where is Master Tyler? I thought he was with you?"

"He left to scout around while I was talking to CorSec." Markus replied airily. "He's probably face down in an alley somewhere by now."

Markus always had a way with words. The zeltron wondered how this agent did not have multiple daggers in his back by now from all the friends he must have made over the years.

"Well, with our performance a bit ago I would not be surprised if there would be more of us face down in the gutter, either." He reached for his wrist comm. "Master Tyler? Are you there?"

"He's probably face down in an alley somewhere by now."

The experiences of the Pit, coupled with their rather unproductive encounter with "Nexus", had all served to leave Halon's mood severely darkened by the time he climbed out of the speeder. And right now, Markus' big mouth was just one more gray storm cloud.

Although he had promised himself he would try to ignore all the slicer's outbursts, his latest comments had gotten the Ubese agent seething.

As Stent attempted to contact the nominal team leader, Halon approached the human, teeth gritted.

"Considering how some us were very nearly killed recently, do you think it is appropriate for you to be so flippant with one of our own missing?" His arms folded over his chest.

"...Please, answer carefully."

It seemed like events since they had split up coupled with the (to them) unfruitful meeting with 'Nexus' had made the rest of the agents extremely touchy. The slicer wondered what Vendu hadn't told him.

"Considering how some us were very nearly killed recently, do you think it is appropriate for you to be so flippant with one of our own missing?" Halon folded his arms and Markus felt the heat of the Ubese's glare even if he couldn't see it through the alien's helmet.

"...Please, answer carefully."

"First of all," Markus replied, in the tones of someone explaining something very simple to a small child, "Tyler isn't missing. He's gone on recon, or didn't you hear me?" The question was purely rhetorical, and he didn't wait for a reply.

"Secondly, your own incompetence isn't my lookout and it's certainly not my fault, so I'd thank you not to be short with me simply because you're smarting from your own damnfool antics. Or have you forgotten who it was that lost an agent comlink?"

[TAG JANGOANTILLES, Any]

OOC: Unfortunately I have to leave just as things are heating up but I'll be back next Saturday to continue to aggravate and insult you all tongue . In the meantime, LightWarden is free to take over Markus for his own nefarious purposes.

p.s Twinky, as you might have guessed, is also away at the moment. Unfortunately circumstances conspired against her and she wasn't able to inform everyone else. She should be back fairly soon.

Of course, Halon hadn't really been after an apology from Markus; what he had wanted was a clear-cut excuse. It didn't look the scruffy human was going to oblige him, however.

His eyes narrowed into slits as a he spoke. "One day soon, you little vermin, you are going to find yourself in a dire situation, and there will be no one left who is willing to save you. Watch yourself."

He strode off, still irritated, and eager to get back to the ship. The events of the day had left them all with a lot to discuss.

Agents getting killed is one thing. Agents killing each other is another, and Stent was very relieved to see Halon back down from Markus. Mixing a trigger-happy ubese and a sharp-tongued slicer full of vinegar and other things was just asking for a confrontation.

"I think it has been long day - make that a couple of hours, for everyone." Stent exhaled in slight exhaustion. "Unless anyone can think of something else exciting that we can do, we should head back to the ship and retire to our room. Of course we should find Master Tyler first and not leave him alone down here. Has it been 4 hours yet?"

IC: Boz

Walking up behind the group Boz kept a passive face.
"I see Markus is being as charming as always." He looked at the others. Obviously something had happened when they went to get their information. He'd heard the main part of it on the comm after talking to the secuirity crew at the docks, no luck there, they were too on edge which did tell him something. However Boz wanted to hear everything from the agents themselves.
"Sorry for the wait, I was looking for some information, but people round here are too edgy to give it, especially concerning anything remotely to do with secuirity. Heading back to the room right now is the best course of action I think. I didn't find anything useful, but I am eager to know the details of how you all did."

Vermin?!

Markus watched Halon's retreating back with a mixture of contempt and confusion. Precisely what he had done to earn the Ubese's ire was beyond him- he had not, after all, treated the agent any differently to any of the others. For Feth's sake, he had said far worse things to Vendu and for some reason the big human was still civil to him. Carfax could only put it down to his innate ability to get so far up someone's nose it'd take an experienced surgeon to remove him. He just hadn't expected it to work quite so quickly, that was all.

Now the general consensus seemed to be to return to the ship for a debriefing, and for one Markus couldn't find an argument with the decision.

"Sure." He replied to Boz, who had just shown up. "Let's get back to the ship."

Back in the suite, all seven agents were gathered in the closest thing to a safe haven aboard the vessel. The past two hours had been eventful, and rather fruitful. The information provided by the broker was something, even if Nexus had made a point of trying to say as little as possible in response to the free question.

Nexus posted:

"The Empress is one of the few locations in the galaxy subject to, shall we say, the Pact, a multi-party agreement of... enforced neutrality. To threaten the Empress is to invite the wrath of her admirers."

A simple, telling answer that brought up a host of new questions. Clearly there was something deeper at work here, but it looked as though the Empress of the Stars just might be the calm eye in the center of the underworld currents.

There's something unusual beneath the surface, but where would one look to find a thread and unravel it?

Stent Kannat
Grand Suite 703

Stent took a seat in one the chairs, careful to not his chest and arms too much. The soreness, though abated, lingered, and he suspected that it would return with a vengeance in the next 24 hours. He finally noticed that his clothing was somewhat disheveled and dusty, likely from taking the hit in the Pit, and he began to brush himself off. He would have to change if he were to look proper on board this ship.

"Okay, the rundown, as I understand it: There is some pact of neutrality on board this ship and has some secret admirers. There was a fellow that we were in pursuit of. After a whole lot of racket, landspeeder acrobatics, and very poor tactics on our part, we managed to lose the suspect. I hope someone got a look at him so we can try to run it through some searches.

"There was a woman who goes by 'Inyri' that was in the Pit for unknown reasons that we assisted. In return, she assisted us and was introduced by her assumed employer, who goes by the name or callsign of 'Nexus,' who provided us the information on the ship. Now we also have a commlink of his." Stent held up said commlink in front of everyone. "We are to contact him if we think we would be interested in making a deal with him."

Stent fought back a yawn. "Excuse me for that. Concussion grenades do wonders to the body. Back on topic - at least from what I have said, let us see if we can jog our memories for anything distinguishing of the suspect. Additionally, if we can, do searches for an Inyri and Nexus associated with any underworld or intelligence organizations. Finally, maybe someone can take a look at this commlink to make sure that it is just what it seems to be, and if it will teach us anything else about Nexus."

He methodically leaned back in the chair. "That is what I have taken away. I know everyone has more to add, so let's hear it."
