IC: Halon (as Serik), Suite 703

So far, so good, Halon thought to himself as he finally slid into the suite with the other agents, key chip now in pocket. It was the first time he allowed himself to relax slightly, even though they had all managed to board the Empress without any major foul ups and their equipment remained undetected by the ship's vigorous security routine. In fact, the only thing that had really bothered Halon at all was having to remove his helmet at the hanger bay.

Very few who had seen an unmasked Ubese ever lived to tell about it. But then, the droid in charge of verifying his identity wasn't really alive at all. And although the practice seemed somewhat pointless to Halon in a galaxy filled with shapeshifters and holoshrouds, he was forced to admit that the end result could well mean an easier mission for MI5.

Markus had made a circuit of their suite, looking as if he was searching for any potential bugs that may have been hidden in their quarters. As much as he appreciated the effort, Halon would not feel totally secure until they could use the special equipment in their luggage brought along for just such a purpose. Luggage they still waited for...

"The sleeping arrangements make no difference to me," he said, finally speaking up as he looked around. He was content to let the others claim their beds. If he could sleep through a turbolaser bombardment, he was sure he could find a decent rest on whatever was left to him.

OOC: No badge for Halon either.

IC: Boz

Boz nodded approvingly at the room. It was exactly the kind of thing he had expected, high class.
But Boz definately agreed with how useful a full map would be and he knew that if it was possible to hack into the information system then they would be able to do it.
He was especially glad that so far at least the team was working together. Sleeping arrangements didn't really matter, it did make sense for Ruana and her husband to take the double bed. As long as none of the other agents snored too badly he didn't mind.
One thing that Boz had found hilarious since getting on the ship was Carfax's body language. He seemed both impressed and stiffly professional at the same time. Boz walked over to the viewport and studied the view appreciately.
"So?" Boz asked everyone, "I must say that the room is highly impressive"
He indicated the rest of the room with a small flick of his hand. "Lovely to mix business with pleasure, and of course these high class rooms can be very interesting."
He nodded in Carfax's direction. He'd noticed the agent's sweep of the room.
"Found anything particularly interesting Mr Hunt? I like to know that I'm getting my money's worth in these matters."

Stent Kannat

Stent shot a hard glance at Agent Girange and shook his head. Until it was declared that the room was not bugged, they would have to stay in character, and that included not being overtly obvious on what they were doing in the room, at least by voice. If they were being watched by video, well then, there was not much they could do about that.

"Yes, this certainly is a very nice room for the price, Master Tyler," he quickly piped up. "I am glad that it is not as gaudy as I feared it would be. Sometimes those decorations could keep one up at night."

He began to slowly pace the room, doing his own examination. It would likely not be as precise as Agent Cafax's, but an additional set of eyes never hurt.

"I wonder how long it will take our baggage to arrive. I could freshen up a bit." And let us use our equipment, he silently added.

OOC: The following was cleared with LightWarden over msn messenger. Enjoy your bug-free suite!

IC: Markus Carfax as Himself
Grand Suite 703

The search of the suite hadn't taken too long- the hacker quickly realised that the rooms were bug-free, and as far as he could tell, nobody was yet interested in finding out what MI5 agents talked about when they were by themselves.

"Looks like we're clean, squire." Markus declared, walking back into the living room, dropping his stiffness and relaxing back into his regular mode of speech. "I have to say, a certain somebody did very well in getting this suite for us, didn't he?"

He sat back on the sofa and pulled out their new Spot-On Locator. Resting his feet on the expensive coffee table, the agent switched it on and started to fiddle with the buttons.

"Where do you wanna go to start, then?"

As Markus walked around the suite examining it with the Security Detection function of the datapad, Stent conducted his own investigation, physically searching the room for anything out of the ordinary. He couldn't find anything that had been dropped, misplaced or otherwise left in the room for whatever reason. The devices in the room seemed to be functioning fine, especially the sound system and entertainment system (card-locked for your family's convenience, ensuring that age-inappropriate material is kept away from sub-adults, while allowing everyone to enjoy the vast media library the Empress provides!). Nothing could be heard from any of the four adjacent rooms, which meant that either no one was home or the sound-proofing worked as expected given the degree of noise that the neighbors weren't making. The bathrooms were fully stocked (complete with towels and bathrobes) and the minibar was full. They hadn't skimped on any of the safety features either, with a hanging displaying the evacuation procedures with notes in several languages (with a muster drill to be held twenty minutes before the ship prepares for the hyperspace jump to Corellia). All in all, given the cleanliness, order, and lack of suspicious objects in the room, everything seemed to be fine.

OOGM: For the record, I'm assuming that you're carrying any of the equipment you guys claimed. Anything else (one hold-out blaster) is concealed within your luggage. I'm not entirely sure how you're carrying the datapads given that they're a little large to stuff in your pockets, but I assume you guys brought a method aboard, so it's up to you to determine what that is.

With the room secure for the moment, the most prudent aspect of their mission lay before the agents, namely the fact that there wasn't a great deal to go on. With this many inquisitive eyes focused on the vessel, it wasn't as though there would be trouble in plain sight. Right now, the mission was like the room, warm, comfortable, and seemingly free of any flaws. But... "strong currents in the underworld" was the phrase used in the mission briefin, indicating that there may be something swirling beneath the glimmering surface. The question was... what?

Right now, there was nothing to go on, but if the mystery was to be unraveled, the agents would need to find just the tiniest piece of thread to work from. Questions needed to be asked, and answers needed to be found, be they from man, machine, or simple objects. But involve the wrong questions, wrong people, wrong places or wrong times, and it could be that the agents provide answers about themselves that they may wish they had never given.

Consider, carefully.

Boz dropped his accent and walked over into the main part of the room.
"Ryn, I seriously doubt that this place has anything below 5 stars, let alone a seedy cantina. I think we'll need to go down a different route. I noticed an extremely large amount of surveilance devices as we came in. Now I know that isn't exactly uncommon on a ship such as this, but that's the point. Maybe no-one would think it strange if there were extra ones."
He sat down on one of the sofas, looking at the others.
"Carfax, is it possible for you to hack the information system? There might be something in that we can use."

Stent Kannat

"Perhaps we should attack this from as many angles as possible," Stent replied, standing still and looking at the floor, his mind jumping from thought to thought. "Ryn mentioned a cantina... perhaps he, Boz, Halon, and I can take that approach. Carfax can begin on the electronic side. Joss and Ruana... the salon or shopping? Attempt to get a feel of the place and see if anything happening underneath the surface? I am grasping at straws here."

Stent sighed and put his hands in his pocket. "Perhaps what we really want is information from the crew of this vessel. I remember our hostess the night of the auction slipping up and saying something about loading and offloading cargo of some sort. The crew that I would think would know something about that would not be the service staff, but the ones who actually make the ship run."

He started slowly pacing. "Maybe we can 'lose' one of our luggage. We end up trying to find it, legitimately, of course, through lost and found or whatever they have here. Then we demand that we be taken to the cargo holds and start searching. And not only searching, but getting a feel from the crew that would be around us.

"I would also suspect the crew on the bridge would know about this. The captain..." Stent paused, realizing that he never thought of this before. "The captain. Ryn, or whoever has that newfangled device that we just purchased, does it give a schedule on there? Is there anything about a meal with the captain or a meet-the-captain event? Does it at least say who the captain is?"

Stent pulled out the briefcase computer and started slapping in cards. Why he did not think of the captain earlier, he did not know, but was hoping that it would point them somewhere.

"Thoughts, anyone?"

TAG: all, Lightwarden: Stent find anything on the computer about the captain of the ship?

OOC: It's me, not you....... work's being doing a good job trying to kill me the past few weeks, but I should be better now. Sorry.

Grand Suite 703
Empress of the Stars
Coruscant
1415 Standard Coruscant Time
Day 0

Stent's search didn't take too long, naming "Captain Saricia" as the one in charge of the Empress of the Stars. The name itself wasn't unfamiliar.

Your computer posted:

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer: Aves Harth (male human)
President: Lomina Endac (Female Human)
Executive Vice President: Raek Vel'ia (Male Twi'lek)
Chief Financial Officer: Marhu Sillib (Female Muun)
Senior Vice President, Managing Director: Wan Lomu (Female Woostoid)
Senior Vice President, Marketing: Jart Rha (Male Twi'lek)
Senior Vice President, Starship Operations: Captain Saricia (Female Devaronian)
Senior Vice President, Sales: Driggs (Male Drall)

Since Aves Harth himself was overseeing the voyage, it wasn't too much of a stretch to see why the most experienced naval officer in the company was captaining the largest vessel in the fleet.

Losing luggage might be a little harder, since the travel cases were still being sorted and were expected to arrive at their respective rooms within the next few hours.

OOG: This would be the point where I realized that I misspelled "Devaronian" in my previous post.

"That makes sense," Stent said matter-of-factly. "Captain Saricia, female Devaronian, Senior VP Starship Operations. Definitely put her in charge on the maiden voyage. I wonder if there is more on her. Do we have a ship event schedule?"

TAG: Lightwarden, 1st, does Stent find a bio on the Captain? 2nd, does the team have access to a ship event schedule via the holo in the room or the Spot-On Locator, or do they have to find one? Stent wants to find an event with the captain.

IC: Ruana Trebond

Ruana listened to the ideas being passed around, and felt she had to contribute. "Why not spend some time at least figuring out how to fit in on here? The ship's going to stop at Corellia; if you drop to groundside there, you can probably find some places to skulk in for information...hopefully without asking any questions that'll set alarms ringing. At least there will be the seedy cantinas you wanted there, unlike onboard this ship." She leaned against the wall casually, looking disinterested in the results of her ideas, as though they'd merely been tossed out for the sake of it. "Might even manage to finesse a luggage problem after something like that, too."

She shrugged. "But can we please be discreet about it? I don't want to get kicked off because any of us, myself included, asked the wrong questions. Think of all the fun we'd miss," Ruana said cheerfully. "Oh yeah, and the actual reason we were sent here," she added, jokingly pretending to forget the mission until this final point.

Date Posted: 5/27 12:50pm Subject: This took a deceptively long time to research and write..
Capt. Saricia was appointed Senior Vice President, Starship Operations, [six years ago]. Previously, she served as master of the Starlight Dream, the Voyager of the Stars, and the Starlight Pride, as well as serving as the director of the Core fleet. Saricia has been working on starships since she was 19, earning her Master's license [21 years ago] and a degree in Naval Design on Dac two years later. When not working on her duties as either a ship master or Vice President, she has been known to provide guest lectures on large ship operations at naval institutions throughout the Republic.

As to the captain's availability, she usually couldn't be reached any time the ship was moving (as all members of the Starlight Cruise family are professionally committed to their duties aboard the vessel), though she would interact with the passengers while the Empress was in orbit (the members of the Starlight Cruise family are committed to providing an enjoyable experience for all of our passengers), with a dinner at each planet (please make your reservations soon), and often is in attendance at several of the other events (for those of you traveling with younger guests, be sure to ask about our Youth Tour of the Empress's cutting edge bridge).

OOGM: They list 35 BBY as Year 0 for the "Great Resynchronization", but don't bother to explain what they called the years before that, except "X years before the Great Resynchronization" (which only makes sense when talking about things after the fact during the prequel trilogy). I could make a calender note stating "955 PrR", but since none of you would understand what that meant (955 years Post Ruusan Reformation), I've opted just to translate it in brackets.
