IC: Kaya Kau'Yun Kiar
Worldship Baanu Dul, His Chambers

It had been many years since he had stood so close to the brink, that unfolding abyss, which promised either a death enlightened or a life prolonged. Three years? Yes, it had been about that long since he had fought Yarong of Xenly, killing that god in it’s own crèche. Flexing his Verpine arm at the memory, the clicking of it’s chitin, and the dark shine that it added to his form giving life to the memories of that adventure of survived suicidal heroism.

Nearly it was enough to make one shed a tear for the lucky that passed on ahead, those that knew what this path would create. The worldship only had the ability to survive one more long battle with hyperspace, when did he come to call dark space by the infi…the galactic standards language? No matter, they, those gathered now here upon this dying ship had gathered to be the faithful few that would carry out an evolution pre-ordained by the gods for their survival or their doom. For from this day forward they would proceed with body unfettered by the choral implants of blind faith and proceed once more with their eyes wide, their options open, and the god’s advising as they might have been if their first contact had not been a war to the death with machines.

His hand gripped the small device where Du’Kat’s hand had once done so to punctuate his fateful last grand speech to him, opening the portal to look out upon space. This galaxy was no longer a place where they could be what they had been created to be, at least not here. They would have to travel beyond, these few to where knowledge by all major races, ‘Empirically Torn’ and even ‘Chiss’ did not know, only there might they find the solace of a new beginning, a new rebirth.

Either that or die in sacrifice along with the worldship in failure, even as advisors the end would always be within their grasp, but if ever they were to grow they would have to stick to the new path that is as old as remembrance. Everything would be new as so it was old to begin, for they were now and forever more the Yun'tchilat Vong, or ‘god’s chosen children’, for now they were not just Yun-Yuuzhan’s children as the old name spoke, but where the chosen of all. Whatever happened though, he at least had an heir that would survive, one that stayed behind with someone he felt he could trust in this galactic half filled with sith treachery. Qatar had better do right, that was his only wish, but leave it to a Jedi to teach a Kaya Kau’Yun’s son how to use the force. Vicariously maybe other young ones here would also learn, but there would still be a Kiar left in the galaxy, and that…

A savior of the galaxy was going to leave it to it’s own devices now, leave on a belief, with those willing to accept the same belief. As the stars streaked around before him before reshaping in the effervescent cascade of color that is hyperspace, that thought somehow made everything better to him as he left it behind.

U'tek
bridge, Ascendancy

U'tek stood on the bridge with both Keean and Glave by him, watching Vayland going through the disembarking procedures. He was not wearing the fatigues that he usually wore. Now that he was in command, he donned the more traditional working dress uniform, his rank clearly displayed. He stood by near one of the viewports, looking down on the bustling activity from the crew. While it was a distraction, his mind kept returning to the events that happened during Talia Qatar's tribunal. The nerve of the Vulture to show up, and to accuse him of murder. The cathar was glad that he had enough professionalism and self-control to not react at all at the tribunal, despite the strong urge to start shooting at the liar. But the force field would have made it look like an infantile effort. Never mind. The Vulture was gone, for now. They had his "word" that nothing would be compromised. For now.

He had more important things to worry about now. Here he was, in command of the Ascendancy battle group - although it wasn't much of a group, being just the Ascendancy. But with the amount of new personnel on board, which was close enough for a full ship's complement, and large collection of fighters, transports, probes, and other ships on board the Ascendancy, it would be a force to be reckoned with. He would leave all of the minutia of commanding the actual ship and starfaring matters to Vayland, of course. But even he had to be kept appraised of those matters as he was in charge of everything. The thought of that was somewhat daunting, yet very satisfying and entirely appropriate for a cathar warrior. There would be much discussions of missions for the fighter squadrons. The soldier complement would have to be made sure to be in top shape. And briefings from intel would be non-stop. He was granted a SpecOps operative from the higher ups, and U'tek was going to be sure to use them.

There were plenty of worlds in the Minos Cluster that were in various stages of control under the Sith and Imperials, and now was the best time to be there after the devastation of the past several weeks. An Alliance presence of this magnitude would surely work in their favor.

U'tek watched the stars shoot by as they entered hyperspace and finally spoke.

"You know, Glave," he said quietly, "the other reason we have you hear is because it's easier to keep a close eye on you here. We don't trust former Imps too quick."

Glave smirked back at U'tek. "Even if I didn't switch over, if I thought you were stupid enough to not do that, you would've had a couple of destroyers knocking on HQ's door a couple of days ago."

U'tek smiled back hearing Glave's challenge. "Don't give me a reason to lock you in the brig."

"Same back to you."

"So, Colonel," Keean interrupted. "Time for your little speech?"

"Unfortunately," U'tek unenthusiastically responded. He and the other two then walked over to the captain's station where Vaylad was sitting. Vayland motioned to the comm system. U'tek reluctantly picked up the receiver. He wasn't one for long speeches, and he barely knew what to say to the crew. But he was the commanding officer; he had to say something. U'tek keyed the receiver, and throughout the ship's intercom system a set of whistled tones went out, hearkening back to the days of when ships only traveled a world's oceans.

"This is Colonel Tereo U'tek," the cathar said in his steady voice. "As you all know we are beginning our mission in the Minos Cluster, where some of you had been only weeks before on this same vessel. Your experience level is of no matter to me, however. I expect the same from everyone - to put in their best effort into their work. Watch out for the being beside you, and they'll do the same for you. This cruise will not be easy, but you wouldn't be here if it was. The battle to reinstate the Alliance has not and will not continue to be easy, but we will persevere if you only follow what I simply request of you. Our mission in the Minos Cluster will be successful. And when we come across our adversaries - we will do some damage and be victorious. I promise you that. Colonel U'tek, signing off."

With that, U'tek put the receiver down and stood still for a moment, collecting his thoughts. He turned back to Glave and Keean, and not caring to hear their reactions, immediately spoke. "Let's get to our intel brief." They nodded and the three of them walked towards the turbolifts to learn more of what the Empire had in store for them.

OOC: Wow, kind of makes me want to cry, honestly. Not following through with Tahnan will be something I regret for quite a while to be sure. I'd like to apologize to Fin, Kira, and all the others I ditched a few months ago. Life got a little confusing and chaotic as hell...I couldn't keep up. It annoys me to admit that, but it's the truth. So, again. Sorry, mates. I'll never forget how I let you guys down.

No worries, Krayt. The game turned out great, the story worked just fine with the cast I had and Major Tahnan grew into a General of questionable reputation and was a very important part of the story . . . so all is fine. It´s only a shame you weren´t here for the ride. Might have liked it . . .

ooc: This is obviously Sarge221´s and my final post for this game. It is also my final chronological post for Kira Kara Romar. With the exception of a brief cameo in 129 ABY early next year, I lay her to rest now and will never touch or play her again. What you read here is the end to her story. The same goes for Sarge´s Tenk Qatar, I understood. So, this our goodbye, to this incredible game and these beloved characters.

Enjoy.

Kamparas, 146 ABY
The Village Voncmar, Marketplace

"Sim, Sim, get over here!" Kira shouted after her boy, who was running off to see a Ronto march through the streets. He had never seen a creature like that. But that did not excuse having his mother carry all the things they had bought alone. Especially with her one hand. Kira smiled at the Adarian merchant. The market was filled with many people at this time of day. One of the rare occassions when Kira enjoyed company. Her son was very different from her in that regard. Open and talkative, he befriended the other children quickly and he and a Jenet named Moar had become best friends recently. The family of Moar owned a farm very near to Kira´s little shop. They were friendly people.

"I can help you with the bags, I´ll just tell my son to take over for a few minutes and I´ll bring them to your speeder, Kira-pau," the Adarian offered. His name was Keylip Bra and he had sold Kira her vegetables for as long as she had been on Kamparas. Since Simeon´s birth, actually.

"No, thank you. It´s too nice of you, but if Sim doesn´t learn it, I´ll have to argue with him until he is a grown up. And I think I do not have the patience for that." Kira smiled.

The Adarian laughed a bit. "So there is something you do not have patience for, after all?" He laughed and Kira smiled back. Serenity was a trademark of her. She knew people had rumored her to be a veteran of the war. Some had even hinted she might have been a Jedi. But that rumor was mostly filed under "overimagitive". Which was the way Kira wanted it to stay.

Simeon turned around and came back after all. "A Ronto, like the one you read me about when I was a child!" He laughed and pointed at the giant animal.

"I know, young man, I've seen one before. Now get my second bag. Or shall I have myself grow a second hand, hm?"

Sim sighed and took the back. "Why don´t you have a replacement? Muar´s cousin got one and it works just fine. They can even grow one, these days" the boy said as Kira nodded to Keylip and made their way to the Speeder.

"I am reminding myself of something, by having one hand. One day, I´ll tell you the whole story. And you, you won´t believe your poor old mother." She smiled at the thought and made her way to the aged speeder model.

Voncmar had become their home. Not the kind of spectacular home, people wrote letters and poems about, but simply the place where she lived. His small shop, selling all kinds of goods (but especially Arkanian imports for a certain Hutt near Neol) traded with her for Kamparas's own traditional goods. It had been a good and honest business. It was boring. It was normal. It was everything she had always dreamed about. And it had been her life for over a decade now.

"Is Moar coming over tonight?" She asked her annoyed son, who would have preferred to stay and watch the ronto.

"Yeah, he wanted to. Can he eat with us?"

Kira nodded, smiling. "Of course he can. Always." And a shudder ran down her spine, as an old Weequay passed her on the street. Greeting her. The man probably would never understand, why Kira wouldn´t say a word to him, ever.

Within the crowd, a certain blind man was looking for his own family. A difficult task perhaps when one has lost his eyesight. But you know what they say; when you lose one sense, the rest tend to be heightened in an attempt to make up for that lost one. And when it was the mystical sense that is the Force that is benefited from an extra boost, being able to look for presences of the most important people in your life was an easy task to accomplish.

Especially when one of those two people - the small, younger one that was bewildered at the world around her - possessed a part of you that stayed with her forever.

Relying on such a sense for thirteen years now could also allow you to take note of other presences that may seem familiar. It was like seeing the face of an old friend; you've never seen them in such a long time but if you would happen to spot one in a crowd that mental imprint that you had kept when you last met would allow you to recognize the face. And when you had been in such stressful situations with that friend, they can be quite memorable.

So when the blind man spotted that face in the crowd, his head jerked up, immediately whirling around, his blindfolded gaze staring forward. If his eyes still worked, if he was still able to see, he would've seen the woman that walked through the streets, a couple bags in her arms. And a child that followed her. A child who's presence held a part of the woman within him.

Only once before had the man felt these two together. It had been when he had saved them.

"It's been a while," Tenk Qatar spoke, smiling.

Romar Estate, Kamparas
Same day and year

Amidst the Kamparas plains her little house was nothing special. Build right next to the ruins of the Imperial training center, which actually had been a Jedi Academy once, it was surrounded by fertile land. Some of it she used to plant crops. And a lot of it to shape it into a garden. She had wanted Simeon to grow up in the green. And surrounded by beautiful things.

The garden always was a lot of work. Her droid offered her to do the job once a week at least, but she always denied. It was about being out and work with her hands . . . well, her one hand left. It had something calming to her. It was almost like the days when she reached into the Force for the first time. She could not do that anymore. But she could plant Berolian Trees now. Something she had no idea about, when she was Jedi. For Kira that wasn´t a bad deal.

Old Wendel had come over to help her. The old man was a veteran of the war, too. And once he saw her, he had known. And never said a word about it. She had liked him for that immediately. Having a friend twice her age was a little strange, but he became her favorite person to spend time with. Not talking, not needing to behave like she was anyone else. Just them doing work in the garden.

"Do you know any blind people?" he suddenly asked.

Kira looked up. "Why do you ask?" Taking off her hat, her hair was sticking to her forehead through her sweat. It was a hot day to do hard labor.

"Because a blind man is standing right behind you." he added and teased his beard, slowly walking over to his gun.

Kira turned around and raised her hand. "It´s okay, Wendel. I know him." she said and stood up. Smiling at the man before her, even though he could not see it she sighed. "Sooner or later one of you had to find me, right?" Wendel looked a little concerned but her look told him to stay cool.

"Hello Master Qatar," she then named the man and saw a little away Talia Qatar and a little girl at her hand, who looked shyly at her.

"At least it is me," replied Tenk, a smile of his own on his face as he stood before her.

"Hello Talia. Hey little one, you don´t need to be afraid. I am Kira. This is my friend Wendel. You scared him, but now he is calm again." Looking at Talia she sent her a friendly smile. "We´re all friends here." Then she stood up, getting rid of her gloves. "Tea?" She asked and finally embraced Tenk Qatar.

"Tea sounds good." Tenk returned the hug, his arms squeezing around her shoulders. With her own arms around him, Tenk was able to detect through their touch the missing appendage that had been Kira's hand. She had never replaced it apparently, which he of all people could understand completely; he had never replaced his eyes after all. That didn't mean that they were gone, however. They still existed. They just weren't on his face.

Breaking away from their embrace, Tenk turned his head towards Talia and the little girl at her hand which Tenk focused his blindfolded gaze on. Smiling, he motioned for her to approach, urging, "Come on. I want you to meet a friend."

The little girl looked to Tenk, then to Kira, up at Talia, and then back to Tenk. Finally the girl released her hand from Talia's before running up behind Tenk's legs which she immediately wrapped her small arms around, hiding her face behind them. Her face peeked out around them soon enough though, her green eyes looking up at Kira. Slowly, a shy smile appeared on her cute face, a small hand waving nervously up at her.

"I had been hoping to introduce you to her one day," Tenk spoke to Kira, his one hand dropping down to rub the girl's black-haired head. "This is my daughter, Roma."

_____________________________

Tea was nice. It was a good season. The kids slowly approached each other like kids do. Talking, then playing. Sim found it awesome that Tenk was a Jedi. A look from Kira explained to Roma's parents that he did not have to know about her past. Nobody should.

Talia then took care of the children. Smiling, laughing, but always a hint of sadness in her eyes. Some things . . . once broken . . . could never be replaced entirely. Kira knew. She had known this look from the mirror. Lately she had got used to it. Everybody around her had. Something was missing there. Something Xenly took with him to his dark grave. Something her son could not resurrect. An innocence no longer there.

"Your wife seems to be a beautiful mother." Kira said and smiled. Looking at Tenk. Wendel had left them alone. Working somewhere, probably. Nobody could hear them now. "Good to see you, Tenk. I am sorry I could not be there for the trial, back then. But you made it without me I heard. And went on to win the war." She smiled. That war. There had been others after the initial Sith´s fall. The endless cycle repeating itself time and again. Letting few escape it´s battles. She had gotten away. Tenk had not wanted to leave, until much later.

"Not exactly," Tenk replied, a small grin on his face. "My wars have been fought and put to rest long ago. It's the next generation that is to thank; I'm just the old, blind man that gave them some forgetful advice." The grin slowly vanished. "I do wish we had spoken before you left but I do understand." Looking around the room that they were in despite not actually being able to 'see', he commented, "You more then anyone else needed this: a beautiful home with your beautiful son on a beautiful planet. I'm happy to see that you've found your peace."

She gave him a smile. "Thanks to you, I´d say. Without you and my son, I would never have found any of this. Or anything. It wasn´t as if I ever believed I could possibly . . . have this." She smiled and looked around. "I never believed I could be a mother. Give life." She looked down at her missing hand.

"Too late I realized that is what I really am. The Kira you know . . . there was always a little of HIM in me." She said as if sharing a secret. It was none. Not to Tenk Qatar. He had touched Xenly. He was the only person in the galaxy who could begin to understand what it meant for him to be a part of her.

Tenk nodded his head, letting the silence stretch between them. Then, leaning forward, his hand reached out, taking hold of her arm, gently gripping beneath where her hand had once been.

"It was a terrible burden," he spoke. "A dark curse that consumed all who was touched by it. Even today I still remember having nearly fallen again because of it. But all it can take is just a little hope that can allow one to break free from such a thing. Your son had been your hope, had allowed you to not only be freed of it but to make sure that it would never exist to touch him or anyone else. And it is because of him that you have managed to help create a galaxy that he can live within peacefully." He squeezed her arm gently. "That you both can live in peacefully, the curse having finally been broken."

Tenk Qatar. She had known him for such a short time, yet he had always believed in the good in people. He had no idea how wrong he was. There had been no hope. No redemption. Kira Romar had fallen on that Asteroid. She had wanted the galaxy to die. And only death had saved her. Only being shot had kept her from becoming that monster.

"Yes, you are right," she said and wiped tears from her eyes. "We should go look for our little ones. If they set the house on fire, we will feel stupid for talking about peace meanwhile." Laughing, she touched his hand. "Thank you. For everything," she said and stood up, shouting her sons name.

____________________________

They had called her Roma. Their daughter. A strange choice of name, considering how uncomfortable Talia felt around her. Kira couldn´t have expected anything else. The woman killed her once. Shot into her chest in cold blood. And saved the galaxy. The woman was also a traitor. Kira shook her head. She hated to know this. She hated to think in such categories again.

Muor and her son behaved very well. Showing Roma all their toys and sharing them with her. Tenk now watched over them, talking to Wendel about everyday business. The old man did not admit it, but he was excited to meet a Jedi. Kira was amused about it. Then she looked at Talia. The woman was staring at her.

"Strange to see me alive, hm?" Kira asked.

The other woman nodded. "A little," she replied.

Kira could only smile. She sighed, then asked the question hanging between them. "Heard of the Vulture, lately?"

Talia´s eyes filled with tears. "No, not recently," she answered, pressed through her lips.

"Don´t tell `em you found me." Kira said. And looked at her. Talia nodded. They needed no further words. They knew who each other was. They knew what both were capable of. And Talia knew especially how hard Kira Romar was to kill. Kira gave her a sad smile and nodded. Being her old self again was uncomfortable. The recognition it was still there was . . . suffocating. "I guess you won´t be getting a ride back by now. You will have to stay."

Smiling, Kira left the kitchen. She did not need the Force to know that Talia needed a moment to get over this confrontation. As civilized and nice as it had gone down, Kira knew. Tenk perhaps did not know. Or he simply did not want to. Talia perhaps forgot most of the time, herself.

We all have our secrets, don't we? A voice. Not her own. It was long since that had happened. To her surprise, she was not frightened, but instead relieved. Kira smiled, as she entered the living room again.

_________________________________

The disturbance that Tenk detected caused the Jedi to pause in his conversation with Wendel, his lips briefly forming into a frown. His concentration shifting away from the old man, Tenk instead focused upon another pair of chatting adults: Kira and his wife Talia. But while the words Tenk had been exchanging with Wendel had been about pleasant, every day activities, the words that Talia and Kira were exchanging were anything but. They were words that charged the air with tension and fear. Of the past.

That caused some unpleasant memories to resurface, specifically ones that involved him and Talia. With everything that had happened, when he had discovered the previous actions of his wife, Tenk couldn't deny, no matter how hard he tried, that there had been distrust between the two of them. It was a small degree, miniscule even, but it was there. Even after the trial, after she had been freed from the Vulture's employment, Tenk had wondered if his wife still held a link to her employer that he may be unaware of. Or maybe, rather then distrust, it was simple fear. Fear that despite having finally settled down, having finally found their peace, there was still yet an avenue that could strike out at them and bring them back to those times of pain once again like before.

Tenk had never asked. After the trial, when they had retreated to the hidden Jedi Temple, Tenk had tried to just focus not only on the students that he was to train but to work on their marriage as well. It hadn't been easy but Tenk had devoted everything that he could to Talia to try and crack open the dark shell that had been put around her heart, to try and bring back the woman that he loved. He focused on her pain, her mental wounds, trying to sooth them, to help her recover from her.

And then the pregnancy.

There had been rough spots with that as well. It hadn't been a jubilant occasion when they discovered that Talia was pregnant with their future daughter as it had been one of fear and shame. Still haunted by what she had done, the crimes she had committed, there had been countless, sleepless nights that had been spent with Tenk trying to sooth his wife's mind. But slowly, with the months that followed, as their daughter slowly developed during the therapy, Tenk had been able to make sure that, upon their daughter's birth, it had been tears of joy that fell from Talia's eyes rather then shame.

Tenk liked to think that Roma had been able to bring Talia the rest of the way to a peaceful mind. To have been able to create a life rather then destroy it, to nurture and care for it, it was what Talia had needed. To not only love but be loved by someone that was theirs.

When the war had finally ended, when the Jedi had once again triumphed, Tenk had thought that Kamparas would be a place to go for a peaceful vacation of sorts. To let their daughter experience the galaxy that she had had once been sheltered from in the Hidden Temple, to let both Talia and himself go on a retreat to somewhere that had been untouched by the war like where they had been married. Apparently it was also the kind of peaceful planet that Kira Kara Romar would wish to serve as her new home.

Had he been wrong? As he continued to focus upon the two women, Tenk wondered if he had made a mistake with this reunion.

But it was then, as Kira left and Talia stayed, that Tenk felt the conflict. Not a conflict that raged between the two, but rather a conflict that was being...put to rest. At least one of them. Despite their time together, Tenk knew that not everything could be put right with his wife. She still had a past that haunted her as his still did for him, perhaps secrets that were being kept hidden from him. Secrets that he may never know.

But for now, Tenk was able to smile at seeing one more wound that had been healed. Secrets or not, he was content with his loving family.

Wendel said something that Tenk didn't catch, bringing the Jedi back to the present as he smiled at the old man and apologized. "Sorry. Got lost in thought."

His focus shifted once again, being directed to the children that played together. Having been granted access to her new friends' toys, Roma was playing with one right now, and from the sounds that Tenk detected it was a wheeled one that she rolled back and forth along the floor. A thought coming to him, Tenk motioned Wendel to the playing children and muttered, "Watch this."

Focusing on two of the other wheeled toys, currently discarded off to the side, Tenk lifted a hand towards them. Following his hand's motions, the toys suddenly rolled along the floor, circling around the children who would no doubt enjoy the sight. Roma, having witnessed such displays before when she played with her father, looked towards Tenk and smiled.

Returning his daughter's smile, Tenk allowed his thoughts to drift away though he kept control over the toy. As he had said before, their battles were done. The pain and hardships could be put aside, their focus to be set on the future that they would experience together. All that was left for Tenk was to see the galaxy become passed on to the next generation. Though having a Jedi father, Tenk wasn't going to push his daughter towards the path that he had chosen. It would be for her to decide whether to take on the responsibilities of a Jedi, to guard the galaxy from the dark side and all dangers and obstacles that all Jedi would face. If so, Tenk would be there to see her through it all, to guide her and warn her of the dangers of such an occupation to make sure that she wouldn't make the same mistakes that he had, that she wouldn't fall.

And then, one day, she may create a family herself and repeat the same words to her children that her father had spoken to her when she had been a child. And little by little, the galaxy would get just a bit brighter. For everyone.

That sounded like something an old, war-weary blind man could wish for.

______________________________________

Closing the book, the children protested vividly. Kira smiled. "No, no, enough for today. I will read to you how they escape Prakith tomorrow and now you three sleep." She laughed. Muor would stay overnight. And together with the other two children, he seemed to enjoy their stay. Kira stood up. In the doorstep Tenk Qatar embraced Talia from behind and had watched the excited children enjoy the tale.

"When I grow up, I wanna be like Elora. And kick the bad guys butts!" Muor announced proudly. Laughing.

Roma joined his laughter. "Yeah, she got the Force. But I want to be like Mischa. She is always so cool and got good ideas! And she has the Force, too!" she protested. The two argued for a few minutes like only children could. Everybody loved Elora and Mischa. Already in the Jedi Temple these kinds of discussions about ManCubs had taken place.

"They will grow tired soon," Kira whispered and the three adults moved out of the room.

Before she closed the door, Kira heard Roma ask her son. "Sim, who do you wanna be like?"

The boy sat up and looked at his two companions. "Force is boooring. Flying is cool. I wanna be like Elisthia!"

The argument between the three began anew. Kira smiled, as she carefully shut the door. "Good boy," she whispered and joined the Qatars in the living room.
