Disagreed. LightWarden nailed it.
Light posted: Well, if you're going to do a musical band story, why go mundane and just have it be a story of the struggle of stardom, when you can have fun with it and use the POWER OF ROCK to battle demons or whatever. I mean, rocking so hard that the ground erupts and a horde of zombies burst forward to assault your enemies? That's hardcore. It's not like it's that much of a stretch from the portrayal of some bands anyways.
I mean, that just screams "LAUNCH ME, I'M AMAZING!"

So why is this place all talk? Why doesn't anyone actually try to make something interesting instead of just talking about it back and forth between walls of text?
i have a game in the works...we'll see though.

I think I do it the other way around. I create a bland character sheet and try to turn that into an interesting character. Seems to work fine. *shrug*

It's probably because making interesting characters is really, really, really hard, at least if you're someone like me who doesn't have much in the way of talent at this. You have to come up with something that other people want to hear about.

Okay... You all have heard of some crazy crossovers: Buffy the Vampire/Star Wars, Halo/Harry Potter (wtf?), DragonballZ/Xmen and so forth...
This one you probably have not heard of nor thought of...
Star Trek/Pirates of the Caribbean anyone?
You're probably thinking "How the kriff is that possible?". Its Star Trek. Everything is possible. Star Trek's had WWII stories for crying out loud! Anyway... The characters the players choose will be mysteriously taken out of the PotC universe by Q (set after AWE, so no Will Turner--imo taking him from the Dutchman would hurt him) and transported to the Star Trek universe and appear aboard a Federation Starship holodeck that is currently playing a pirate program.
It would either be based on UFS Enterprise-E or UFS Voyager, the two major ships in the Star Trek movie/tverse. If its on the Enterprise-E then it would be set after Star Trek: Nemesis. If its on Voyager then it would be set sometime after Seven-of-Nine joined the crew.
Personally, Voyager would be more fun and practical in my opinion. Why?
1) The Prime Directive, nuff said.
2) With #1 in mind, Picard would have the entire resources of the Federation to send the Pirates back to their timeperiod.
3) Barbossa or Sparrow would get in trouble within the first five-minutes. All of them are pirates (murders, thieves, cutthroats, etc) and the Federation would lock them up or detain them to guest quarters. Then find a way to send them back.
4) With #1 in mind, Picard would not allow them to learn or view of anything from the last 600 years. What fun is that if Jack cant look up his own biography and make "I didnt do that!", "That doesnt look like me!", "I'M the Captain of the Black Pearl!" comments?
5) Now of course, Janeway would also attempt to send them back but she has less resources and it would take her longer. More time to have fun!
6) Janeway would also restrict them from viewing anything from within the last 600 years but... as it becomes more apparent that she cant send them back and they may become permenant residence of the 24th century, she might let them learn 24th century stuff. They're bound to anyway.
7) The pirates would get in trouble within the first five minutes, yes, but Janeway cant keep them locked up the entire journey back to Earth! She'll eventually let them out and incorporate them into her crew like she did with Neelix, Kess, and Seven. The Federation certainly can keep them locked up.
8) Voyager would have a whole lot more adventures and more room to create your own material, ideas, species etc. Ah the unexplored Delta Quadrant. Its Star Treks version of the Unknown Regions!!
Anyway, you get the point. Voyager would be more fun because it is less restrictive on the Pirate players.
Both sides would be attempting to get the Pirates back to their timeperiod, however the Pirates are gonna explore the 24th Century. Who knows maybe Jack Sparrow doenst want to go back? Maybe he found something interesting about the 24th that makes him want to stay? Players would be confronted with all sorts of reasons for either going/sending back or not. How to do it or how to avoid it and so forth. Might even reverse it and have the Voyager crew stuck in 18th Century earth aboard the Black Pearl for a while! With Q involved, who knows what will happen!
Any takers?

I rather like that idea, and here's why. I'm a big fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, have been since I saw Curse of the Black Pearl in theaters several years ago. I'm not, however, at all familiar with the Star Trek universe, and that's why I like the idea! I think it would work out better for me having no knowledge of Star Trek if I play a pirate who also has no knowledge of the universe. I must say, I am most definitely intrigued by that prospect.

Original characters would be limited to the crews of both the Black Pearl and the Voyager. Why the crews? Mainly because the game is centered around those people and not the people of other ships. So there would only be four captains allowed in the game. Barbossa, Sparrow, Janeway and Swann (I honestly dont think she'd stay away from the Pearl, even if she has her own ship). I know some people will argue that the game can be set 10 years post AWE so Turner can be played, BUT not using the notes of Ted and Terry about the curse (which doesnt make sense btw) and just basing it on the films, Turner's curse is actually eternal regardless of whether Elizabeth was there or not. Jones altered the curse when he cut out his heart and made it a part of the Dutchman. So, still no Turner for the game. Sorry.
Both crews also have plenty of unnamed characters that you see in the film and episodes, so theres plenty of characters to go around with.

Would I be the only one that has a tendency to create a game, love it, plot out a complete story, start it up, get things rolling, only to have my beloved story be thrown back in my face as the players promptly set about warping how their characters act?

A Indiana Jones-style SW game might be good. Set it a thousand years after the films. Seek out everything from Anakin Solo's lightsaber to Darth Krayt's holocron, that sort of thing.
On another note, I'm thinking of starting a hugely revamped and rather unique version of my old game Archangels and Alchemists. It will be based off the same premise (a war involving an anti-Force user serum that kills midichlorians) but with several new twists. It will very probably be my final game on the forums (and hopefully my best). It's really shaping up to be quite interesting. Lots of different stuff to do in the game, it's not all blood and thunder and war. It also incorporates several ideas I've used in the past, such as a Fate system for determining character destinies and an Era system for advancing timelines.
PM me if you'd like to be a sub-GM, or simply to participate as a player, or even just for more information,

Reynar: Final game of my own creation, I meant. Not final game ever on the RPF. Sorry for the unintentional melodramatics. I never really took to GMing. So I'd like a final, large scale stab at it.
