Stealing a bit of that thought, a "maze" environment rather than just a duel arena might be an interesting take on the archetypical duel; sort of a roleplayed free-for-all at the old Mustafar facility, for example. One would hope it wouldn't turn into some miserable "Battle Royale" situation", but you could still potentially have the "judging panel" watching events via CCTV from an undisclosed location, perhaps...

Yes, and it could be watched, by both the Judges and the Spectators via Camera Droids following the competitors from a safe distance as they fight, sort of like in the Boonta Eve Classic in TPM.

Although, the Mustafar facility in ROTS is in ruins as early as prior to 1 ABY. I should know, as I visited it in Star Wars Galaxies. grin

Ok, have read Legacy 18, and the notes on the Shaper were inconclusive, as Krayt was partly shaped himself, but it didn't say who helped him shape the others. What I did notice was that Darth Maladi had a lab full of the classic "things floating in jars" proving that science makes everything better. So it is possible to use another member of her department to screw around.

And yes, I did know the old stories about the Colosseum, which is why I made that suggestion. "Guys in armor fight on a dirt floor" does not exactly sound like epic adventure, so you need to spice it up by introducing obstacles, environmental hazards and complications. For example, shifting floors, pillars of spikes (perfect for impaling finished enemies), landmines, mazes, pitfalls, spinning blades or giant electrified cages heated to incredible temperatures and festooned with barbs. And I wouldn't suggest putting them directly in front of an audience simply because someone always tries to attack the audience, so it's best to do it via remote and holograms, I think.

For some reason that post reminds me of the old Ankh-Morpork saying: not 'Set a thief to catch a thief', but "Set a blade-loaded, superglued, scorpion-infested, automatic-closing door trap to catch a thief."

Why do so many games seem to occur at coincidently even numbers like "X00 years before/after Y"? Are the forces of evil watching a clock or something?

I wonder if you could actually RP a board-game. Not as in "let's play an RPG set in a particular game world", but as in "the GM sets up the board game and the players act as characters and play through it".

Would probably work better if the image system on this board didn't completely suck

I've actually wondered if a Monopoly RPG could work for a while now. Never did anything about it though.

well sicne i don't want to be limited by cannon, i was thinking about staging it like 50 or 100 years after the war of the lance. so there wouldn't be to many restrictions
