So there's a definite trend of crafting characters with some goal/role/concept in mind, as opposed to my throw-proverbial-darts-at-the-sheet approach. Interesting.
Are there any types of characters you feel daunted by playing?
Funnily enough, I have no problem playing either male or female characters. Apparently I play a pretty convincing male, too, because some IBOP players used to think I was a guy.
I have massive trouble with non-humans though - I just can't imagine myself into their mindset, so they end up being humans with funny faces, and that's a cop-out. The most I've done is play near-humans.
As for personality, I really hate playing the strong, silent type. It's just ... boring ... and I end up having to invent ways to keep myself interested in the character as opposed to just playing. And I've yet to play one in a way that gives them more depth than a piece of cardboard.
... That's about it actually. I don't have a specific type of character I won't play - I've played all kinds of Force users, military officers, shady assassin-types, and my Xavier's character had a passive power and thought she was fully human. That said I do like playing Force users because there's a whole 'nother dimension of cool toys that you can get through the Force.

I guess I never took into account the non-humans. I've played several, mainly Kel Dor (Kel Dors? Kel Dorian? ) but, like Xan said, I have a hard time placing myself in their minds. I just find it hard to play non-humans.

I'm sorry to bother erveryone with this, but im at wits end. does anyone know how to make a manadlorian character using D20 rules. I'm sorry, I usually play Miraluka characters and as far as im concerned, mandalorians rarely fit into anything i make.

You pick a species and gender (usually male human, but feel free to mix things up). Then you take levels of soldier. Then you take levels of the Elite Soldier prestige class. Behold, you now have a Mandalorian. They are simply a faction of excessively militant individuals who have devoted themselves to killing the hell out of whatever crosses their path and whooping it up in the galaxy from time to time. They are not a biologically distinct species like the Miraluka. It's just a cultural thing, where you have an excuse to play the Proud Warrior Race Guy. Just remember: If the players aren't telling you to stop being such a bloodthirsty idiot, you are not Mandalorian enough.

And then I shamelessly use the Star Wars Random Name Generator to get a name.
I tend to use that a lot, especially when I am really lacking in the creative department.
I actually used that for the DoD game for alot of the NPC's.

For names, I sometimes go to the species Wookieepedia page and take one of the famous member's names or one of the common names for that species and change some letters. Or use the same style of name.
On things a stray from, I used to never play any females, but now I have two of them. I don't know how well I'll do. I might just act superior to all the males in the game.
DarthXan, you are a girl? That’s news to me.
And, back to Seph’s question. I suck at senators. Way too boring for me. I need to mix some head-bashing with my peaceful talking.

Well, that's definitely understandable. You have a lot of NPC's running around in that game. It'd be really difficult to come up with names for all those NPC's without some sort of help.

I've actually found it easier to play a non-human character then a human, that way they can be as distinct from my own natural tendencies as possible and when its kept in mind it can make for some hilarious social situations I had never played a female and avoided them like the plage, but low and behold I know am playing as one...an Imperial one to boot, and thats really tough for me to keep in the mindset and true to character without getting stuck in a rut.
With names I tend to just look at Wookiepedia lists for that species or search around for that class of individuals and then either piecemeal different names together or else just try and fudge one that sounds similar enough to me.

You know if you played your character like Admiral Daala then you couldn't tell the difference if it was female or male.

Who told How'd you know I was Admiral Daala! She still is a bit hard for me to remember all the man quirks, I'm just glad I haven't run into Tarkin yet cause that would really push the limits
