Summer 2006 Role Playing Forum Awards
Guess what? Yep! It's that time of the year again! We are pleased to present the Summer season's RPF Awards. As you may very well know, this is our second ceremony that incorporates two forums filled with diverse RPGs, both of a Star Wars and non-Star Wars variety. No doubt we will receive a huge offering of nominations and votes to follow. Please be sure to read the entire post, as always, since it contains a great deal of 'official' information.

Purpose of the Awards

Our forum is a unique one: fun, yet very challenging. It takes a great deal of hard work and dedication to build a successful game or navigate through the galaxy, or indeed, beyond its borders, with a character, or several of them. These awards have been established in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of our members. The VIPships and publicity awarded to winners are meant to serve as both a reward for a job well done and a way to increase visibility of these members, as guides and recognised specialists in their winning category. It is hoped that others will learn from their example, thus improving the forum overall, and enriching our great community.

How it works

Awards will be held four times per year, in April (Spring), July (Summer), October (Autumn) and January (Winter). Apologies to anyone who lives in a country where these seasons are reversed. We can't have it both ways, though I'm sure you're happy enough to join the celebrations regardless.

The four categories for awards are:
Best Game Master
Best Role Player
Best Role Playing Game
Best New Role Playing Game

New RPGs are defined as any active game less than three (3) months old, residing in only one (1) thread (ie, multi-thread games are not eligible for this category). RPGs must be active (ie, no locked threads may be nominated).

Voting will consist of two rounds. Round 1 will last for five (5) days after the opening of the Awards. During this time, anyone may nominate any active RPG or player. Once a thread/player has been nominated once, please refrain from nominating them again. One nomination is sufficient to save a spot on the ballot. Users may not nominate themselves for awards. All users may make a total of two (2) nominations per category, so choose wisely!

Round 2 begins immediately after the results of Round 1 are posted. A list of all the nominees will be compiled for members' pursuit. Members will have seven (7) days to PM their votes from the choices to the host. Users will have the option of voting for up to three (3) people in the Best RPer and best GM categories, and up to two (2) games in the Games categories.

At the end of Round 2, the winners will be announced.

It should also be noted that any RPG that wins an award becomes ineligible for next season's awards, to ensure fairness and variety. Any players who win awards will be ineligible until the next year.

Spring 2006 RPF Awards Winners

GAMES:

An Unknown Planet in the Unknown Regions [Best New SW RPG]
Exiles [Best New NSW RPG]
The Galaxy at War Part III: Schism of the Sith [Best SW RPG]
The Ultimate Fantasy Community [Best NSW RPG]

PLAYERS:

Ktala (Autumn 2005)
Livi-Wan (Autumn 2005)

greyjedi125 (Winter 2006)
Sith-I-5 (Winter 2006)

Imperial_Hammer / MASTERPRENN / Winged_Jedi / LordDarthUmbrus (Spring 2006)

Please refrain from nominating any of the games/players above.

Please note that campaigning (ie, soliciting votes and/or nominations) at any time during the awards, in any thread, in any forum, is considered spamming. Such actions will result in a warning and/or ban. Make this fun for everyone and allow the RPF patrons to vote however they desire. wink

Prizes

Yes, the part you've all been waiting for.

The winning Game Master and Role Player will each be awarded VIPship (with the ability to choose custom colours) for one week. In addition, they will earn a place in the "RPF Hall of Fame" in the Community Centre. The winning RPGs will receive a special place in the introductory sticky thread, as well as the right to the title of "Best RPG," until the next season's winners are announced.

New Rule: Two Forums: Double Awards

Since the Role Playing Forums now comprise of not only one, but two separate and distinctive forums within which there is role play, there will be two sets of awards. The same categories will be available for voting within both communities, that is, we will have a best player from each from, and a best Game Master, and so on. As such, there will be a total of eight winners this season, four from each board, with just one catch. A member cannot win two awards, either in the same forum, or across forums.

The awards are administrated by the forum moderators, NaboosPrincess and LightSide_Apprentice. Special thanks to exodus411 for his help with the development of this post, and NaboosPrincess for such a beautiful template to work with.

Any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to PM the Moddess or Moderator. wink

Nominations are open until Friday, July 14 at 5:00am (board time)

Disclaimer: Any comments or thoughts about the pink should be directed to NaboosPrincess. This post is a template based on previous awards and in no way, shape, or form reflects my personal colour preferences or other ... qualities.

I have two nominations for BEST ROLE PLAYER, both from from Galaxy at War III:

Ominous (General Praetorian Darkeyes)- singelhandedly keeps an entire faction going in an exciting way.

and

Mortimer_Nerdly (General Greievous)his version of GG is immensely interesting and his method of putting it into words is great!

There are a few past winners who I'm sure deserve to be nominated again but alas, they can not!

NP is right, pink is very much a summer color... along with orange and lime green......

I also have nominations from Galaxy at War II:

For best GM: Pashatamur... because, well... she's amazing.

For Best RPer: Kalio_Dynkos. His range of characters in the game is... well, amazing. And his attention to detail is above and beyond most RPers here. His characters seem too real... and I sware, if I didn't know better, I'd go looking for these people.

Then, from the RPF I'd like to nomitate from Xavier's Institue:

First of all I have to nomitate the game itself. It is going amazingly well, with not just one major character, but many detailed and believable characters. Xavier's Insitute for Higher Leraning: Path of Heros's for best RPG.

Then my Second nomitation for Best RPer: HunterPrime. I love HP's posts. They're just... very well done.

That's all I got.

Good Luck to All

Best Game Master: I think Dubya_Scott is up for another go at it. For both 007-Style AND Exiles.

Best Role Player : Other than Myself tongue I think I'll go with BSSL (BartSimpson_SithLord) and SephyCloneNo15

Best Role Playing Game : Decisions Decisions. Well, Dr. Noah (Star Wars, 007-Style) gets it for SWRP and X-men is already nominated.

Best New Role Playing Game : Dr. Noah and Pirates of the Carribean III: At Worlds End. I know that last nomination is a bit early, but I think that, being as it bears the Imperial Hammer name, it should do well.

Concerning the pink: I agree that it is very summer-y and feminine tongue

Concerning the 'All Star Awards': We're going to leave them out this time 'round so as to give members a chance to grow more familiar and comfortable with the idea of awards being held across two forums in this new format. New All Star Awards will be considered for addition and/or revision in the next season's festivities.

I've got a question regarding the "categories for each forum" thing...

If a player or GM is nominated in both forums, what happens if he or she receives the most votes in both forums? They have the most votes in both, but they can't win both. What happens then?

This thought just occured to me because I GM games in each forum, and it looks like DVC just nominated me for both of my games...

confused

Most people vote for two different GMs (one in each forum.) I don't think that would ever happen.

I will sumbit a nomination for Best Roleplayer, also from GAW III.

LordDarthUmbrus, for an utterly flawless portrayal of Darth Sidious and enticing reads with every post. And not just for the said Dark Lord of the Sith. He has done superlative jobs with Darth Revan, Darth Traya, Chewbacca, the list goes on. Too, I have been more than enthralled with his masterfully designed original characters. It has truly been a pleasure to behold his creativity.

Well, while those are well-deserved words of praise for him, he won last season, so he's not up on the block this time. Perhaps there's someone else in GAW you'd like to spotlight?

Naboo, you do have to be open to the possiblility that once Imp gets his chance again, he could win it in both places. What'll you do then?

Obviously a person can only win one forum. Whichever forum they have the most votes in, they win. The other forum would go to whoever placed second. But seriously, it's not even worth worrying about because it won't happen.

Rainbow Sherbert! Doesn't get much more summery than that.

Thanks for the nom, DVC. I'll nominate Master-Korr for his rather interesting character of Bo "Blackjack" Black in Xavier's, although I could just be a sucker for well-written accents.

Perhaps a bit early, but I've got a feeling that The Return to Blood Gulch: Red Vs. Blue will be at one of the extreme ends of the spectrum of RPing. I nominate it in the hope that it will end up on the really good end of the Spectrum rather than the really bad.
