Starting a thread about
this little con
that you may have heard of.
Location:
San Diego Convention Center
111 W. Harbor Dr.
San Diego, CA 92101
Tickets are on sale now, and room reservations will open March 19th, 2009, although they're advising you book independently ahead of time as they will sell out within hours.
The roommate and the peeps we're going with to Wonder Con are starting to plan now, I recommend we open discussions about who's going with who and what not here now as well.

Some of us have bought are 4-day passes already (I bought mine at CCI last year), because if history repeats itself, once they sell out, people will end up buying individual day passes, which means you can't get into Preview Night, and you'll have to wait in line just to register every day, and some people couldn't get into Saturday because people bought tickets just for that one day, which left others who had tickets for Thu-Fri and Sun out in the cold, er...heat.
It should be bigger this year, as CCI celebrates its 40th annivesary!

I volunteered for Thursday through Sunday at the Breakfast. Kimmie & I are going down for the week. We plan on going to beach and dive the couple of ship wrecks out there as well. Haven't made any room reservations yet, hoping someone from the diving community will let us stay with them for a lil bit.

Checked the Comic Con website - 4 day passes are SOLD OUT.
My suggestion would be to pick a day or two to go and enjoy the city/Disneyland/whatever the other days (as I know several other members have planned to do), or be prepared to shell out $100+ to purchase separate admission for each day. That, or, you know,
volunteer
.

Good luck on the "friends from the diving community" front for housing - I'm waiting on room reservations for now too... my friend Jeremy (he had the table last Sac Con I was helping to babysit) is waiting for SDCC to open the room reservation system (soon!), but like I said before... I may take some toiletries, and just live in the con hall, potentially...

That's great but, where will put all your goodies? I find out today about hotels through work & my boss has a lil plane. I'm gonna ask if he would fly us down.

Don't buy a ton of junk, or make a trip once a day to put stuff in the car... it makes a great way to restrict the desire to spend by asking: "do i really want to carry this for the next four days?"

Here are mine and Dale's itinerary (so far):
Hotel:
Best Western Seven Seas
411 Hotel Circle South
619-291-1300
Check In: 7/22
Check Out: 7/26
(Staying with a friend Sunday night)
Airfare:
7/22: Southwest # 198, Departs SFO 8:20 am
7/27: Southwest $ 2906, Departs SAN 11:30 am
(Both were only $49 each way - I'd get the flight to SD first before they're gone. There are still plenty of departure choices left. I was going to leave on the 26th, but there weren't any for the $49 price yet).

I think as it stands right now. Meg and I will not be attending Comic Con. Its just too expensive and we have a lot of other things going on with planning our wedding. I think that we MIGHT try to maybe go down and visit our family that weekend and then we might swing down to the convention for one day. But all four days is just kinda too much for us right now. But looking forward to the Horror Convention in September. I think we'll make it to that for sure.

I can't say for sure if I'm going to San Diego Con or not. I probably won't know until at least the next two weeks. If I go it will have to be for at least three or four days, a day or two at the con, another day or two site seeing. It's too high in price for me just to go a couple days for the con.
I normally don't attend comic con too much though because I always get the impression that it's much harder to get around and into the panels than it is at WonderCon. But I'll see what happens.

Saturday at Wonder Con this last year was probably Comic Con at a very good point on a very good (as in light traffic) sort of day. Expect ridiculously long lines, and holding a spot in panel rooms hours in advance, from what I hear. You're right on the "day or two" pass idea - four day passes have sold out, Saturday is halfway there, but the rest are all under a quarter of the way bought up... for an up-to-date count on pass availability, check
here
P.S. Jedhead: do you guys know what the taxes/luggage fees are for your flight?

For those
still
undecided, I'd suggest buying your individual day passes for now, since the 4-day passes are sold out, especially since Saturday day passes sell out first. You'd hate yourself if you got the other days, only to find yourself standing outside on Saturday (the biggest day for panels and photo ops, etc.), and not being able to get in. The downside of the day passes is that you'll have to stand in line to register EVERY DAY before even getting in, which will eat at least an hour or two of your time there.
You can always get a refund a month or two before it starts (you'd have to check their website on when that is, and the exact return policy is).

So the guy I thought I'd be riding with (some of you have met him - Searnold) is going down the Friday before the con for networking/visiting friends and stuff... the roommate refuses to make a decision until April (and thus is probably not going), and my other option is up in the air at this point. Was wondering if anyone is planning on driving down (and staying) for the whole con and maybe we could work something out.

We got our tickets for Friday. I can only imagine the throngs of people...WonderCon irritated me with all those dang people, so I am not looking too forward to the pushing and shoving. I'm gonna have to whoop some boo-tay if anyone gets in my way that day.
I will be on a mission to fit in everything in just a few short hours.
