Ideally, I'd like it animated, maybe with the sound too. If not, just the blue tint and lines would suffice. But didn't somebody somewhere mention it would be possible as an animateed gif?

It is possible as an animated gif, which involves making a picture with several layers like traditinal animation frames.

Well, if the members page has everyone's photo and their name that's going to look WAY too busy. A bunch of animated gifs or flash movies loading at once is not a good idea (classic textbook example of 'bad web site').
It wouldn't be 100% out of the question to have it on the person's individual page where you read their bio and get the IM info - etc. However, I honestly don't have time to make animations like that right now. I need to keep the images more basic - and having people being projected (even if it's not animated) means I have to spend time masking out their pictures in photoshop to drop into another background. It just takes more time than I have for this at the moment.
Besides, nobody has given me a picture to use. That's why I was thinking I'd have to design the members page just to list members names without any photos at all. For those like myself and Matt who did have costume photos they will just be on the individual bio page which will link from their name on the members page.
Trust me, I'm keeping the R2 projection in the back of my mind. Right now my priority is to just get basic content up on the site in a presentable form as quickly and efficiently as possible. Bells and whistles might be able to come later if one of us has time for that.

I'm with Kathy on this. With the exceptions of Flash buttons.
You wanna avoid any sort of animation on the page otherwise it becomes busy or s resource hog. And since so many other members are on dialup the faster the page load the better.

Oh yeah, animated gif or flash for nav buttons isn't too bad. Even one little logo or icon with animation is fine (like our death star spinning). But having lots of animation on one page is taxing on the eye and the download time.
So that's why I only see it being visually acceptable on an individual's bio page. It would make it take longer to download which might bother those on dial up (or might not). But it's kind of a moot point right now since I don't have time to get all fancy with the graphics

6) I'm did not discover Star Wars till I was a teenager but now I am totally hooked, especially thanks to one of my best friends. He didn't realize the monster he was creating.
Kathy, since I am one of the few who are still in the ancient world of regular film, I will talk to Robert about getting some pictures to you. Hope this helps. Also, will it be an option for members to alter their own profiles or is that something you will need to do?

Since the posts here have a lot of "N/A"'s, maybe we could add somthing like "favorites" to profiles, i.e. favorite SW stuff (characters, film, etc.) and other favorites (music, books, foods, etc.)

I was thinking the same thing. Similar to Rebel Legion. I think we need to keep it simple enough so people won't feel too hassled to fill out the info.
Eventually I can make a form on our members page for people to fill out, but that's after I get the gallery built and our members pages put together.
Right now I'm still trying to fill in all our 2005 events! We sure were an active group! Man, you sure know how to organize fun stuff to keep us SW fans busy throughout the year. Thanks for everything!  I know it's a lot of work.

Our web site doesn't run off a database, so profiles will all have to be updated by me. I will eventually build a form for people to fill out. What that will do is send me an e-mail with the info you typed in the form and I'll still have to go in and change stuff myself.
I just wanted to get all your info as fast as I could here without spending a day designing a form.

I've updated the web site to include the names and photos of members who signed up in this thread. I'm still working on building individual pages with your detailed info and costume photos for those who submitted them. (If you said you'd get me costume photos and you didn't, then please get them in soon!)
I think the only exceptions that I added in to the listing were Erick (he's a council member so I just went ahead and added him), Sharon (I took your photo so I figured you were OK with it ) and I put in StarSmugglers screen name.
If you don't see your name or screen name or photo there it's because it wasn't submitted to me. I can't really play with second guessing who does and doesn't want to be represented on the web site, it's not that I don't consider you all members I know we have a lot of new members now, so feel free to send me your info and I'll get you added.
