I heard this on the news, it's unbelievable. At least he died doing what he loved at the very end. Gotta admire the man's dedication to animals and nature. Rest in peace Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, I'll miss watching your crazy advetures on Animal Planet. sad

Sad news indeed. At least he died doing what he loved, just like Costeau before him. sad He'll be missed.

I've been in shock from this ever since I heard it on the news last night. It was always a dream of mine to make it back to australia and go see him at his zoo. He seemed like one of those people that would be amazing in person. A lot of the people I have known in the animal care industry, myself included, are great admirerers of his. Especially of the fact that he always put his animals first, somthing not often done in American zoos. My heart goes out to Terri, Bindi, Robert and everyone at Australia Zoo. I hope they are able to continue their good work, even without their leader. Despite all the chances he took, I always assumed he would be ok. However, like everyone else, I guess at least he died doing something he loved.

This is sad. I really liked that guy. He wasn't famous for a stupid reason. He actually deserved the admiration directed toward him. I'm just glad he always seemed to do what made him happy. He had a good time while he was here.
Thanks for being cool to the animals. G'day, Steve Irwin.

Wait...Don't you mean, you were "stung" by the news?

I know, bad bad taste.
He will be missed. Did his little girl see it happen? Hope not. I saw my cousing get mauled by a dog once. He lived, but some dogs still shake me to this day. So I cant begin to think of what she is going through.

There seems to be some video footage of it but it's unreleased. I shows him trying to pull out the sting ray's barb barehanded. Crazy, and like only two people have ever been killed by a sting ray! I would have thought Agro would be the one to do him in or at least a great white shark since it was in water or something more mortally deadly. Maybe a blue ringed octopus since they are native to those waters but not never a sting ray. I hope there won't be a backlash against sting rays and their relatives. They're more defensive animals that would rather flee that fight or attack.

Terri and the kids were hiking on Tasmania and someone went and told them what happend and they flew back to queensland. Bob is only three years old, so who knows how much of this he understands. It is my understanding that the video shot of him has made it's way on to the internet (by some sick person no doubt) but I personally have no interest in seeing it. John Staiton, who was Steve's director and friend, said that it shows Steve swimming over the ray and then the ray's tail comes up and then Steve pulls the stinger out (probably not knowing it had gotten his heart) and then as John put's it "he is gone". The ultimate irony is that the ray's poisen is not fatal and if Steve had been stung anywhere else on his body, he would have survived. John said that he and Steve had a conversation that if Steve was going to be killed it was probably going to be in the ocean because it was not Steve's most comfortable element and that you can't control the water, which makes it more dangerous. Kind of ironic. They kept the zoo open today, because they say that is what Steve would have wanted. The world won't be the same without him. But when you work with animals, especially wild ones, that is the risk you run. I think we had all thought of Steve as invincible though, even Jack Hanna thought so. If only it was so.

I have no interest in watching it but I'm sure sick freak at work will end up looking for it eventually. I think it's ironic that of all the deady species of creatures on the planet that he's chased, grappled with, and subdued that he was killed by a stingray... It's like if Tony Jaa was killed by Ghandi. Now were stuck with that clown Jeff Corwin... Ugh...

I heard that in Australia they found about 12 stingrays with their heads and tails cut off. Definitely something Steve Irwin would NOT approve of.
