I am working with some friends on a game hacking project, and I need to extract the CLUTs (a.k.a. Playstation palettes) from the game Tomb Raider 2 for the Playstation. I was told it can only be done making a VRAM dump, then somehow extracting the CLUTs from that dump. Using the Peops soft GPU with the epsxe emulator, I made a VRAM dump by viewing the VRAM with F12 and dumping the VRAM into a .bmp file when I hit F8. Here is my VRAM dump (Photobucket shrank it to 800 x 400 by the way. The original was 1024x512.):
I was also told that stuff on the right of the vram "dump" are the CLUTs.
My question is how do I extract the CLUTs into raw data or a .pal file for Paint Shop Pro?
The entire project has been brought to a screeching halt because of this problem. If only we could find the CLUTs, the project would already be finished, if not close to finished. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I mean, we are all nerds here. Surely someone here must know about this stuff.

CLUT means Colour Look-Up Table.
Our project is near completion. We have nearly everything figured out. The only thing impeding our progress is that we need the CLUT, and we don't know how to extract it.

Right now I need to split a file that is 18304 bytes into segments that are 768 bytes. This means I should end up with 71 files that are 768 bytes, and one file that is 384 bytes.
Now, obviously, I sure as Hell don’t want to open up my file in Notepad or Hex Workshop, and cut and paste data into new files 72 times. I’d get carpel-tunnel syndrome and probably go insane.
I tried using file splitting programs called HJSplit and The File Splitter 1.31. The problem is HJSplit won't divide it if the segments are less than a kilobyte. I tried The File Splitter 1.31 and it only split it up into 24 files, each 640 bytes each. Obviously not what I wanted.
Do you know of any competent, free file splitter programs?
And yes, I know: In Soviet Russia, file splits you.

Everyone always wants to take shortcuts, lol.
Back in the day... there WERE no tools to use. I doubt you'll get carpal tunnel from "hand"-splitting them. I'm sure you could even write a program to seek out the correct data and write to files in sequential order 000, 001, etc.
My recommend is to cut & paste them by hand (or pay for a tool that will do the work under 1K) but... be sure not to use a program that cannot interpret odd characters. In something like notepad--you might lose certain characters, or they may be altered. When you paste them anew--the data will be screwed up.
Other than this... unfortunately I have a lot of other things I need to be doing, and getting back involved with hacking (which I haven't bothered with for years) is not something I need to do. Why are you doing this anyhow? Tomb Raider 2 for PS is old as dirt, lol
If you hacked OBLIVION... now that would be nifty whack funky cool.

Actually, I just realized something funny a few days ago. I turns out 18304/768= ~24 files, not 72.
Anyway, my friends and I are trying to see if it is possible to port texture hacks made for the PC version of Tomb Raider 2 into the Playstation version of Tomb Raider 2. To do this, we need to extract the original textures from the PC game, and modify them so that it can be reinserted into the Playstation game. So far, I have extracted the PC textures as raw data, discovered the hex address where the Playstation version stores its textures as well as its dimensions, and adjusted the extracted PC textures to match the PSX version's dimensions. The only problem now (which has brought everything to a halt) is we need to make the data refer to the same palette that the PSX textures refer to.
Currently, the only hacks out there for PSX games are text hacks made by translation groups that translate Japanese games into English. If this project is successful, my friends and I will have gained enough knowledge to take various mods for the PC game and port them to the PSX. These hacks will be the first major non-text graphics hacks for any PSX game ever.
