Saying Goodbye to Shadow

I know some of you have meet my cat Shadow. I wanted to let you know that this past Friday she got really sick and after many tests it looks like she either had a bad stroke or has a brain tumor. Either way, I believe her quality of life is suffering. She is coming home from the hospital today and will be at home for a few days to see how she does. If any of you would like to come say goodbye or just come keep us company, let me know. To Rob, Ming and Anne, who have been with me on this very bad weekend, you guys mean more to me than I can say. Shadow and I appreciate everything you have done for us. She is much loved and will be much missed.

I love Shadow, she's like the best cat ever and the kinda cat I'd like to have someday. Total flirt, but affectionate, loves people, loves to cuddle, and hang out but not real clingy. Not afraid of anyone or anything and just over all chillaxes most of the day only to greet you when you come in. Hoping for the best still but the prognosis is grim. Shadow has been lucky to be here with Rachel and has a wonderful life cos it. Will miss her very much. =(

Sorry to hear about your kitty I know what you're going through. We had to put down two of ours. One in 03 and another in 05.

I am so sorry to hear that. I was never really a cat person until I met Steph's cat Azul and now after living with the little guy, I can't see being at home without him. We hope you're doing well.

Thanks for all the support guys. It means a lot. Shadow seems to be responding to the new medication so hopefully this will buy her some more quality time. Now it is a waiting game to see how well she does. I just want her to be stable before I leave next week. Fortunatly she will have some good babysitters while i'm gone. This has been one of the longest weekends of my life. I have found that animal ERs are pretty similar to human ERs. Neither are nice places. But we have had some very good drs looking out for us.

I'm sorry to hear that the fur person in your life is having difficulties. Having an open door policy in the past for strays has lead to a lot of heartache for us as well, we've lost a number over time to cancer or illness.
It's always tough and never clear when it's time to say goodbye since they can't speak up for themselves. You're doing the best you can for her, and I'm sure she appreciates every moment of love and care you have given her.
I really have no words that can make this easier, only to say that every life must someday end and the candles that burn brighter seem to burn all too fast, making each day that more precious and a gift to be cherished, each day an opportunity to love and be loved.
Celebrate each day with her. Keep her in your heart and thoughts and she will always be with you in spirit, no matter what.
I hope she continues to improve and wish the best for both of you.

I am so sorry Rachel. I have lost couple of pets this year as well. No wonder I have not heard from you latelly. It is heart wrenching to loose a loved one, part of the family. The way I get over the loss is to adopt another one. It takes my mind off and I refocus my energies. Than I think of all the crazy times I have had with that perticular anima, it gives me happy thoughts and I appreciate the time we have had together.I shall see you at the airport on Wednesday and will call you before hand. Hope you feel better soon.

Oh Rachel I am so so so sorry to hear about Shadow. Altho I dont really know you or Shadow, I have four feline angels of my own, and know what you are going through. I lost one of my angels in April 1999, which is to this day, very hard to think about. You and SHadow are in my thoughts and prayers. If there is anything I can do, just let me know.

Well the last hand hasn't been dealt yet all! Shadow's short stacked but she's on a comeback! She's practically got her full balance and mobility back and she's cleaning herself again. Doing very well compared to a couple weeks ago, let's how this winning streak continues! =^-^=

Ohhhhh Im so glad! I sure hope she continues to get better! One thing I learned four years ago, when one of my cats got very very sick, was that cats do not "bounce back" as dogs do. They get back to normal very slowly.

She is continuing to improve every day. She is starting to use her scratching post again, which I hope means that her muscles are getting stronger. Although now it is getting harder to get her to take her medicine. It is becoming a real war of wits. Hopefully if she continues to improve we can wean her off of them eventually.
