I think you will like The Briar King, I love this series from Greg Keyes. I can't wait until The Born Queen gets here.

Finally thanks to christmas break and seeing the movie I finally sat down and finished The Golden Compass while slapping myself many times over for not devouring it years ago. Young adult novels you say? I can see how they are targeted towards a younger audience, but using a Paradise Lost quote for the trilogy title with Asriel talking about original sin at the end of the book shows that Pullman had a larger audience in mind. (leaves to start Subtle Knife).

As for The Briar King......That seires is the my FAV. hands down. Read it and enjoy it to the fullest. I can't wait for March.

In addition to my project, about which you can find more over in its own thread, of reading every X-Men comic, I've finished two books so far this year:
Canadian writer Corey Redekop's debut novel Shelf Monkey, which is great fun, and especially a treat for book lovers, and even moreso for those who like Canadian authors; and Lydia Millet's How the Dead Dream, which is a powerfully affecting novel, though not as much to my taste as her previous effort, Oh Pure and Radiant Heart.

I got a new copy of Dune for Christmas (my first copy, which was my dad's, disappeared several years ago and I could never get a hold on a copy from the library), so I'm re-reading that right now. And I'm also re-reading Inkheart when I've had enough of being on a desert planet.

I just recently got hooked on Yu-Gi-Oh! so I'm reading thru the comic series. I've the first 3 in the past 2 days, so now I'm looking for the fourth. I'm still working on Arctic Incedent (I dunno why it's taking my SOOO long to get thru that one!) and I'm about to start A Swiftly Tilting Planet.

Just finished The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper (Fantastic!) and Buried Fire by Jonathan Stroud (Meh, there wasn't a likable character in the whole book.) I'm about halfway through Magyk by Angie Sage at the moment.

This had to be quoted, since hopefully tomorrow, I will polish off "The Briar King", and can then get started on "The Charnel Prince" over the weekend. And you were right; hands down this is now one of my favorite Fantasy settings, and I'm looking forward to catching up to the release of "The Born Queen".

I finished Magyk this morning (Excellent if a bit predictable), did a quick read-through of Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne and have just started The Tenth City by Patrick Carman.
