I love the short story 'Troll bridge'.
It's so utterly sad and at the same time just hilarious.
Couln't have been Tech, he died in IT and was not with them for very long before IIRC.

yeah but which C.M.O.T? there is one in each city on each continent
I think the Ankh-Morpork one. In theory it could equally have been Disembowel-Meself-Honourably Dibhala, Cut-Me-Own-Hand-Off Dhblah, May-I-Never-Achieve-Enlightenment Dhiblang, Swallow-Me-Own-Blowdart Dlang-Dlang, May-I-Be-Kicked-In-My-Own-Icehole Dibooki, Al-Jibla, or Dib Diblossonsson.

I haven't read much Terry Pratchett but the ones I have are hilarious. I've read: Truckers, Wings and Guards!Guards!Guards!. My friend is always talking about something called luggage that seems to go through anything to return to its master.

I had the honor of meeting Terry at a book signing a few years back, signed a copy of Colour of Magic for me and was nice enough to take a picture with me. It was a nice moment, really kicked started my ambitions to write, inspiration from a truely great author.
Recently picked up Thud! for Christmas, so I'm going through that.

You lucky person Terry Pratchett is one of the few celebrities I really, really want to meet. Aside from being a great writer, in interview and so on he actually comes across as being a genuinely nice guy.
Plus I have the greatest respect for the Discworld books and their author simply because of the depth of reference and cross-reference there is in them - the wealth of literary and pop-culture in-jokes in them is incredible. This is why I hate people who dismiss Discworld as "children's books" . . .

I'm tremendously fond of Pratchett. I have most of the Discworld series, though Eric and Moving Pictures continue to be strangely elusive. I just finished reading Good Omens, which was absolutely amazing. Of course, how could I go wrong with Terry Pratchett AND Neil Gaiman?

Knight_Aragorn posted: I'm Australian, and I didn't think The Last Continent was one of his best. Lots of in-jokes - that surprised me, considering Pratchett's British - but a lot of cliches as well about Australia that started to get annoying after a while. I found it more enjoyable the second time I read it. The side story with the wizards and the island wasn't particularly enthralling, I thought.
Pratchett has a huge following here in Australia, and is here on signing trips pretty often, so I guess it's not really a huge surprise.

Out of interest, then, what did you think of Last Continent?
If anyone here is from China or Japan I'd be interested to know what they thought of Interesting Times, too.

absolutely adored Interesting times. I love the Curse.
And espceially when Teach's plan fails in the end because what's important is mountains of skulls and lots of blood.
Very true that.
One of the books I löike most, even if I'm not so fond of Rincewind.
The Silver horde is a srteak of genius!
And 'whips in their heads' is a frightening, though sadly real and working, concept.
