He's published under Steven Erikson, but Mastadge up top gave a good compendium. He and silent co-partner Esslemont have done three short stories, featuring the two necromancers of the the third book. But they're limited stock and too expensive for their size. He's planned six, I think. Hopefully, they'll collect them in one anthology in time.
I think the third book is an absolute thrill, it continues the first book and explains the mysteries of the second. The second book has an ending you just have to read. I cam as close to tearful as a gentleman can get, myself.

I DID get tearful at the end of book 2.
I would have to agree that so far my fav is book 3. Granted I have only read the series up to that point because I am getting the American versions and they come out like every ten months. Book 4 is scheduled for august.

My paperbacks say
Bantam Press Edition
and
Bantam Edition
, the latter I presume is the paperback, all published a year after the former.
America is several books behind Canada, Aust and UK I believe.

Funny story: I was getting some REALLY cheap books online, and I figured I'd get Gardens because I'd heard so much, and it was in hardcover for $6. Well, I'd forgotten that I'd bought it, so I got it from the library last week. So I get home that day and my books are waiting for me. I opened them and realized that I know have two copies
Okay, not so funny as sigh-worthy.

I just finished
Gardens of the Moon
. I must confess I wasn't really getting into it despite the good beginning with the Hound massacre, and I found it quite confusing. However it certainly picked up towards the end, and I was shocked
when Lorn died. She seemed to be due for some development.
I'll be on the lookout for the rest in the series now (and the PB of the Bonehunters will be out by the time I finish them most likely
)

Excellence you are going to be so mad at me, listen to this: Our friends from the Netherlands are here in the States visiting us and they took me and my wife to the mall and gave us 100 bucks each. So we went to Waldens so I could look and see if Bloodlines might be out early. Well it wasn't so I picked up the new Dune 7 hardcover and I COMPLETELY forgot that House of Chains bk 4 hardcover released the same day as Dune Aug 22 State side. I didn't realize till we got back to my parents house and then I was really kicking myself in the ass for my forgetfulness.
I made up for it though because I got my dad's credit card and just ordered it from Amazon.
But I won't get it until Sept 1 or 2.
So I give you a free slap on me and can't believe I had a chance to get the hardcover free and FORGOT about it! lol

The first hundred pages of House of Chains is a little tedious. But when you realise he cons you with what "children" are, it's classic Erikson, all right. Personally, despite reviews saying it's the weakest of the series, I loved it. Sha'ik is surrounded by so many scheming mages, you don't know who will betray her. And they all have secret backgrounds.
The best moment of the book was the Imass, Onrack, confronting the arrogant Tiste Liosans. Erikson's humour is a blast!

I heard many good things about this series so I picked it up. I am reading
Memories of Ice
right now. It is rare to read a series where you like every character, this is one of them.
The ending of book two was heartbreaking.
Does anyone know when
House of Chains
comes out in the Mass Market paperback edition, in the US?
Actually, I just found the date, it comes out March of 2007 if anyone is interested.

I'll be picking up Garden's of the Moon soon as well as A Game of Thrones. Reading this has just convinced me to make the transaction. Thanks!

Gardens of the Moon requires concentration to understand---which you won't anyway. At least until the second book starts explaining what you thought was problematic in the first.
Game of Thrones' first five chapters are a blueprint for the first trio, but you won't realise that until afterward. Unlike Gardens, the hundred names you meet are mostly filler, not relevant until other books. But as you read more books, you'll find yourself recognising both key and background names subconciously.
Good choices! But brace yourself for a million Martin nipple references.
