While this thread is mainly for Ms. Pierce's Tortall seriese, the Circle of Magic can be discussed here as well.

I'm curious to other people's thoughts on where the two series might be going once Ms. Pierce is done with the books she already has announced/planned.

I've no idea where they're gonna go, but I for one think CoM is under-appreciated.

And for curiousity's sake, have you read Will of the Empress? It's the new CoM book.

Oh don't get me wrong, I enjoy CoM a lot, but I just have a soft spot for Tortall. tongue

And no, saddly, my book funds have disappeared so I'll have to wait for it to get returned to the library. Have you read it?

For Christmas, and now I'm rereading it for the third time.

As you may be able to tell, I <3 this book.

Spoiler about Daja:

It turns out she's homosexual.

Have you seen the summary? It sounds good, and it is.

Yep, and that excerpt Tamora had on her website. ^_^

And that thing about Daja, doesn't surprise me for some reason.

Didn't really suprise me either, TP hinted at it so much once they reach Namorn.

And back to the Tortall books, who's your fave. charrie?

I've only read the Alanna books, but the others are sitting on my floor from the library, waiting for this weekend happy

And I really like Miles, as well as Jon and George and Gary.

I haven't read Lioness Rampant, but I've read the other Tortall books. I think all of them.

I love Tamora Pierce! It might be said that she was the one who really really got me into reading fantasy books. happy

My favorites are the Song of the Lioness series, mostly the first two. I get kind of weird about change sometimes and I just like the "old" days of Alanna. The other favorite of mine is the the Immortals series, since it's still about Tortall but doesn't deal much with the grown-up, aloof Alanna.

I really hate it when authors make this great character and then later only show that old favorite in bits and pieces. It makes me nostalgic and bittersweet about "the past" and how the books used to be.

I enjoy her other books, but something seems to be lacking in CoM and the Keladry books as well as the books about Alanna's daughter. I guess I'm a "staid, old conversative purist" when it comes to Tamora Pierce's books. I own the first Trickster, but haven't even read the second one. I also have only read the first four CoM books, and like...the first two of the series after that.

For the record, I hated how Jonathan changed. He was really my favorite. But then he had to go and be a spoiled sissy. Sometimes it feels as if Alanna "settled" for George. She would've done wonders as a revolutionary Queen, although I guess it's a bit like Little Women where Jo didn't want to marry Laurie because he needed a "proper lady" for a wife since it better suited his personality and future in the end. And as much as I love Alanna...a proper lady she is not! Which is how I prefer her. happy But Thayet is like, amazing and kickbutt and ladylike. She can cow Jonathan into submission! I'm still really mad over how Jonathan dissuaded his daughter from becoming a knight!!!! Oh well.

I for one am glad that Alanna's not in all the other books. The SotL Quartet was good, as far as I've gotten, but you can only deal so much with one character before you get kinda sick of her/him. For example, the HP books. I could never read all those at once. I get tired of their personalities and must go do something else.

And as for whether or not Jon's change was for better or worse, I'd have to read LR to see the final result, so I can't comment.

And both of Jon's children had to be used to cement alliances. For example, Roald and Shinko.

Who cares about freaking alliances? tongue Pop out more babies, Thayet! lolz

Yeah, I wouldn't want Alanna in all the books either...but I don't like how she's changed in the appearances she's made.

Jon's change is like growing up...he was just at that teenager phase...thankfully, he grew out of it! After The Woman Who Rides Like a Man, he got much better.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this in my last post. If Alanna had been queen (*brief pause to consider carnage*), civil war would likely erupt. She's not... subtle or diplomatic enough. I think it'd be along the lines of 'I'm queen, so do it!'
*shrugs*
That's just my take on her at the time. As of Trickster's Choice/Queen, she can be much more diplomatic.

And as for more Thayet-Jons running around... No. Just no. I was never too fond of the first two.

Though it's apparent, who's your fave. character from the Tortallan series?- Aly, she's like a female George. (I was always fond of George.)

Emelan, if you've read enough of them.-Tris(especially as of WotE)

I was always a Alanna/George shipper, even when she was sleeping with Jonathan. And then after The Woman who Rides Like a Man... well, let's just say that Jon didn't help his case any there.

I liked the Trickster books about Aly for a few reasons. Number 1, we're introduced to a new character who doesn't have either uber amazing powers or is really good at fighting. She does have the Gift, but she makes more use of her brain. Like C3P0_R2D2 said, she's like a female George. Number 2, we're not always in Tortall and we see that not all people are bad. Number 3, the ending of TQ made me cry. *sniffs*

Yeah, Jon was a jerk in that book.

Comment to add to CN_T's list
# 1- Or both (Alanna, or Daine with a bow). And I think the more official term is the Sight.
# 2- Almost never in Tortall. And then there's the people like Topabow(sp?)
# 3- I rather liked it, though the scene with Alanna was touching

Coupla questions I can't remember, to what extent does George have the Sight?
Is there any news of whether or not there will be a new Tortall book?

Wow, I *so* did not know there was another Circle of Magic book out! I began reading the series in high school and absolutely loved it. If I ever have a daughter I'll seriously consider naming her Trisana because I think it's such a beautiful name. tongue I just read all four "Circle Opens" books over the holidays, so I will have to see about picking up this next book...
