Yeah, I think they're making Eragon . . .

I think Troy was well done from the Iliad, though it didn't totally stick to the story, so I would see an adaptation of the Odyssey from the same people. I like the guy who played Odysseus-I believe he was also Boromir in LOTR.

Yes Sean Bean played both Odysseus and Boromir. I would love to see an adaptation of the Odyssey too.

Two other young adult fantasy book series that are being turned into a movie series are the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman and the Dark is Risng Sequence by Susan Cooper.

Like people said on the King Arthur Discussion Thread on this board, they should adapt The Once and Future King into a trilogy. Although, Excaliber was a good movie it felt like they were trying to fit too much into one movie.

I'd say ASoIaF but they'd end up being rated NC-17 and no one would see it. grin

Yeah, I heard about the Pullman books, and I'm a little sad. Those were good books, and I don't think the movie will live up to them.

Something 'Warhammer 40,000'. Please.
Seriously, if they can make the Lord of the Rings trilogy and have it do justice to the source material, then they can make a WH40k movie.

How can you think that if you haven't read them?

It's too early to tell if the movies will live up to the books.

HDM: The Movie(s) will not do the books justice. There's just no way it could be done. On the other hand, they could conceivably fall into the "dubious adaptation/OK film" bracket, like the Harry Potter franchise. However I still think that adapting them is a bad idea - there's so many places the filmmakers could go horribly wrong.

Also, if they try and get the religion out like they did with Hitchhiker's, there's no book left. HDM is about these kids taking on an incarnation of the Christian Church that has descended into unChristian tyranny and cruelty, not religion as a whole, but it'd be incredibly hard not to upset certain people.

Elsewhere, I'm similarly dreading any Discworld films, although there at least there might be fewer problems with the script. It's just the nature of the books that would be difficult - the digressions, allusions, random authorial comment and the way Pratchett describes things could never be reproduced on film.

Of course, neither of the above means I won't go and see the films in question. doh!

Well, considering that they did Lord of the Rings, I'm pretty sure that they can do His Dark Materials. With the right writers and director, they can do a good job. Hopefully they will.

Yes, but there's always an element of doubt. And the thing about the LOTR movies is that they've now set a very high benchmark for fantasy adaptation, which is going to be very hard for HDM to equal.

Unless they get Peter Jackson in to direct. thinking

I don't think HDM will equal the LOTR movies but I think the HDM movies could come very close if done right. Like almost every movie there will be doubts and the majority of movies turn out to be bad or okay and a somewhat low minority of movies turn out to be good or great.

I can't wait for Ender's Game. If they do it right that could be a greatmoive, but there are alot of places they cold mess up too.

I would really like to see the NJO is moive format. A triology maybe but that will never happen.
