I of course mean Katherine Kurtz's famous dream, which inspired her to write her first novel. Fortunately for her fans, it was by no means her last! What I like about her books is that they aren't always as fictional as they're supposed to be. When I read Deryni Checkmate, I saw a parallel to real world events in one passage. Katherine Kurtz has not only entertained me, but also made me think.

Okay, I'll let the rest of you talk now.

I haven't read any of them yet, but I most likely will check them out.

I bought King Kelson's Bride this summer in the bookstore, and then realized a few pages in that it was the sequel to something. I looked online and found out that it was the sequel to about fifteen somethings silly I'm still trying to get the firs book from the library, since the bookstores don't have it sad But I'm really looking forward to reading them!!

I'm starting to be able to answer my own question.

I read the fir three Kelson books and they were pretty good, if a bit detailed at times, but that first Camber of Culdi trilogy is a bit of a chore to get through sad I hope it gets easier, because I still have two books left of it befoore I can get back to Kelson.

Any word on those other books she's been talking about?

My sister Araxie and I love Katherine Kurtz... not that anyone could tell by our screen names. laugh

Which other books are you referring to NYCityGurl?

I am going to have to tell Araxie this is here so that she can come help me keep this alive. ..

I love the Camber set you had a hard time with NYCityGurl..and one thing they have in common with Star Wars is that the story gets a whole lot harder to read.

You mention anything Katherine Kurtz and I will be there. I discovered her first triology when I was in highschool. She was just finishing the first Camber trilogy at the time and I have been hooked since. Right now she is working on a new trilogy and a rewrite of the Deryni Chronicles. Deryni Rising is out and Deryni Checkmate will follow soon I think. The new trilogy is the Childe Morgan series and the first book In the Kings Servicehas been out a couple of years. The second book is slated to be out in Novemeber I think. (I hope). As far as favorite series goes I am very partial to the first, but her writing has improved so much over the years and she knows how to tug at the heart strings. I don't care for the other books she has written I am a die hard Deryni fan. If you want to know more ask. I own two copies of the Codex Deryianus and can look up information for you. I perfer to read the books in the order she has writen them and i think my favorite to pull out just to read is "King Kelson's Bride". My least favorite and it is because it is so sad and painful is "King Javan's Year"the writing and story is wonderfully sad. I think the book that gets put down the most is "The Bastard Prince" I love the stories as mentioned above they make you think.

I have started a SW/Deryni crossover, but it is very slow in the making. I know what I want to do with it, but I am stuck on creating characters to get me there. happy

The ones Araxie is talking about, I think. On her website it said something about her coming out with more after The Bastard Prince, so hopefully those are the ones.

I'm stuck near the beginning of the second Camber book. It's so frustrating!! I've really got to try harder to get through it, though.

What seems to be the tough thing for your NYCitygurl?

I know it took me FOREVER .. at least it must have seemed to Araxie to get through Deryni Rising.. when I finally did it was all good
If you are in the Camber trilogy, and the second book, somewhere in there he is taking the identity of someone else. I think .. with brain for a sieve I have to go back and look at these things.
Since the Deryni are about almost all annihilated, some of it with Deryni sniffers ect it will remind you of the purges.

The Bastard Prince has been out for sometime and I liked it. But then you know me.. out of step and rubbing everyone the wrong way!

One other thing: You really don't have to read them in chronological order. Get the Deryni Rising, Deryni Checkmate, High Deryni, The Bishop's Heir. The King Justice and the Quest for Saint Camber and be up in the Kelson Era. What you need filling in from the past Araxie and I will be glad to help with, and you can always check out the Codex Deryanus.

Yeah, I sort of figured that I ould read all the Kelsons and then go back and read all of the Cambers, but I freak out (I'm read serious) about not reading books in order.

I know he changes, probably at the end (ah, spoilers) but I think I'm only 40 pages or so in. They're riding out to battle to fight the troops of the former kings sister, and the current king (it's been so long I've forgotten the names) has a sore rear from riding.

I do love Rhys and his wife, though, and I wish we could see more of just the two of them together.

But the worst thing about High Deryni and it's two sequels was when Kevin and his fiancee were killed. I almost started crying!!! They were so in love and could have been amazing characters, and they were just killed. How sadly ironic that their combined funeral was heeld on what was supposed to be their wedding day.

Rhys and Evaine are totally cool. I agree with you

We are still hoping to find out how their family is part of Alaric Morgan's. You will adore his Richenda if you haven't read of her yet..

I agree with you about the worst thing in the Deryni Rising Trilogy...... that was an event to make you cry.... there is a short story prequel, Araxie will know the book that delves more into that event.

Hi there, how do you read the blackout stuff?

Are you talking about Deryni Archives, the book of short stories. I know that the Camber stuff is so hard to read because it is very, very painful. The Deryni books that have come out after The Bastard Prince are King Kelson's Bride, In the Kings Service and The Codex. She has spent the majority of her time writing other novels that are not in the Deryni Universe. sad

I let Noelie know that I won't be on for about a week, but I promise to check back in as soon as I can. Be patient, you can email me or come to my blog that is listed in my profile.
