Is by far the most epic thing I have read, at least where modern-day fantasy is concerned. Anyone else here ever read it? If so, do feel as strongly about it as I do, or am I alone, here?
Discuss.

I was going to point you to the Stephen King thread or the Dark Tower thread but both of those seem to be locked.
I'm reading book IV at the moment, it's good stuff.

Just wondering, would this happen to be your first read-through of the series? If so, you might want to go into Book 5 without any expectations at all, as it is many fans' least favorite book (including myself), but books 6 and 7 quite redeem the series.

Thanks moose, but yeah, since they're locked a new thread in fine
I'm not a big Stephen King fan (hate horror) but I've heard a lot of good things about this series.

To this day, it remains one of my absolute favorite Fantasy series. (And best of all, it's COMPLETE! )
But going back to Kuru's comment; I actually found myself not really getting all that into book six in particular. Book five took a long time to develop, but for a character-driven story, I enjoyed it. Book six focused a bit TOO much on the rather annoying Susannah story arc. (And the shoot-out would've been more interesting had it not already happened in book TWO!) I don't hate the book, but it isn't my favorite of the series.

Ah, but see, there is your error; Stephen King is in fact, NOT a horror writer. In fact, he has written more drama and fantasy in his career than horror combined. Problem is, his marketing peeps usually sell all of his work as horror, and usually the only things of his that are adapted into film are his horror stories, but honestly, this is not all he writes; it isn't even a good deal of what he writes. I think if you let yourself forget the "master of horror" tagline related to King, you would enjoy the DT series.
Oh, and to StarscreamPrime: Well, see, I enjoyed boox six alot because I hated book five so badly, so it isn't necessarily that SoS is a really great book; it's that it is much better than what preceeded it, which made it seem like a masterpiece to me at the time (Not to mention we get alot more plotrpoints revealed to us in that one.)
The final book though, I is still amoung my favorites of the entire series.

Odd, I felt SoS was the weakest of the series, but I loved WoC. I guess that's the mark of any good fantasy series, everyone like different books (3 and 5 are my favorites)
It really becomes amazing when you take into account all the other SK books that feed into The Dark Tower. It ends up being something like 15,000 pages of stuff to read, and most of it is dang good.

Dark Tower is on my list of books to get around to some day, but I've read a couple of his horror books and didn't enjoy -- and (sans Dark Tower) he is most famous for them.

I think you'll find that's incorrect. Nearly all his work is horror. The fact that Gerald's Game is mostly a drama, or Misery has no supernatural elements, doesn't change the fact that he's mainly writing horror.
The first three books in the DT series were phenomenal. The fourth was okay but kind of a non-sequitur, and the last three, post-accident volumes were abysmal. I always recommend people read the series, but stop after Wizard and Glass, and write their own ending, because it will be better than what King rushed out.
Stephen King was my favorite author in the world until DT7. I was so disappointed I sold almost all my Stephen King books -- including many first editions I had collected over the years. That's how much he blew it for me.

DT is a great read.
Book 4 is my fav. I loved going back into the past but alas most people hated it! Cuthbert is the man! Actually Roland is for getting Susan. That whole thing was great!
Book 7 was such a dissappointment to me though.
I haven't read the comics yet.

I think I read the first book in the DT series and wasn't really crazy about it so I didn't persevere. I like a lot of his other books though.
If you're a writer or a writer-wannabe I recommend his book On Writing. It's very good! It's non-fiction but I know my local bookstore had it in the Horror section with the rest of his books.

"Insomnia" and "Eyes of the Dragon" are two great "tower" tie in novels as well.

I've read Insomnia and I don't see how it ties in with the Dark Tower books.

Ralph rescues Patrick Danville in the fire.
Danville is the guy who draws The Crimson King in DT 7.
