If I am not mistaken I think I remember something about the different levels of time in Insomina being tower related.

grin The thing I find universally connecting about fans of the book series is practically EVERYONE I know loves "The Wastelands". Myself included, since it's one of the best fast-paced books of the series. I still admit to being surprised at the mixed reactions to "Wizard and Glass", which I felt was one of the most emotionally-charged books of the series, and "The Dark Tower" itself. (That ending... I know a lot of people HATE the ending, but it gave me the chills at how effective I felt it was, and it wasn't a total downer of an ending, either. Plus, the vast majority of that book contained a lot of the spark of "Wastelands".)

I really enjoyed the series, but the 10 year lay off between book 4 and 5 was a bit much rolling_eyes . I really thought it had excellent parts and horrible parts but overall had an interesting fantasy story to it(It is fantasy, not horror. King himself compares it to his version of Lord of the Rings). I also liked the ending, actually laughing out loud at its genius. I'm not a huge King fan in general and for me The Dark Tower series is the best of his work, even though it took him something like 30 years to get it all written and published.

I also love the afterword at the end of book 4. Something like "I may never finish this series cause I'm bored with it" I remeber my jaw dropping due to the way book 4 ends. At least he got back to it and finished it up. Overall I was very entertained by the story he told.

I think we, the fans, need to get Mr. King away from this Lucas-inspired thought as soon as possible. praying It worked for the first novel, but EVERY novel of the series?!? beatup

I did once I reazized we are looking at the second to last iteration of it all. Then the one question I had is "does everything happen the same way?" Meaning: does Roland see another (albeit a little different, I refuse to believe that Susannah doesn't get to keep her reward) Eddie, Susannah, and Jake or is this set of events going to be totally different until he gets it right?

I think we are led to believe that things will happen differently this time around.

At the end...
When Roland is about to start his quest again, He has the Horn of Eld, which was the real sigul he needs at the Tower, not his guns.

Can people please remember to HIGHLIGHT SPOILERS!!! I'm not half way through book 4 yet, I really don't want to know what happens at the end of book 7. Thank You.

On a different note, has anyone read the comics? I'm tempted to get the book but I don't like that it's a hardback. Is it likely to come out as a TPB or will I have to get it as a hardback?

Sadly, I wouldn't expect "Gunslinger Born" to come out in TPB format until MAYBE the middle of this year. It could be sooner, or it could be later. (How I miss the simple days where Marvel didn't publish first-run collections into hardback. sad )

But to be honest, if you're currently on book four, then a vast majority of "Gunslinger Born" will be AWFULLY familiar. I thought it was a good mini-series, but the coming mini-series sounds to have a WHOLE lot more promise. (As in being a completely original story. grin ) But the background material in GB is EXCELLENT. You'll learn a lot about the reign of Arthur Eld because of that.

(And I DO apologize if I may have inadvertently ruined the latter events of the series for you. doh! )

Think about it, though, the only reason he got to the tower was through the help of his Ka-Tet. Eddie got them off Blane, Jake saved King, Susannah was the one who figured that Patrick could erase things.....He needs them.

Another question I couldn't figure out: How did he end up with the horn in the end? Did I miss something? I went back and re-read it like 6 times.

Epicauthor:

You are right, he does need his Ka-Tet....but it is hinted that things would turn out different if he has the Horn of ELD.

Instead of leaving the Horn at Jericho Hill, he picks it up. I don't remember if it says that in the book or not, but Roland was always troubled by not going back for the Horn. Roland is seen by the reader, about to chase the Man in Black (Walter) again. So we know that Rolands Gunslingers are dead. But this time, he has the Horn, which is probably the sigul he needs to end his quest. At least this is hinted at.
