I was pleased with the first issue. I've been rereading new avengers over the past few day, and secret invasion is such a great pay off.

First issue was better than I expected. The ship at the end was an interesting touch, and I assume that Marvel will use that to ensure that though some characters are cycling out as they're outed as Skrulls, they'll be replaced by the "real" hero. Which brings up the point of logic, why the heck would the Skrulls send the fake heroes back with a few real ones?

Just to keep us confused?  Or to keep the Earth heroes from trusting each other too much, that seems to be the underlying theme of this entire thing.
I had a nagging suspision that either Reed or Pym was a skrull, and the way it was revealed was shocking but sweet.
I can only hope that the rest of the event lives up to the first issue.

Actually this sounds entirely reasonable to me. The Skrulls best weapon is deception and infiltration. And if they have a divided super human community that is already paranoid now trying to figure out who is a Skrull and who isn't, it just adds another layer of confusion if sprinkled in the midst of this Skrully cannon fodder are a couple of the actual heroes...it just makes it that much harder to discern what is real and what isn't.
All I can say is Captain America, Phoenix, and Ape Beast are just huge ****teases.

I wonder if Hulk and Thor will be involved in Secret Invasion. The real ones. As for time lines where does this take place along the lines of the current Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Amazing Spider-Man, etc. issues? Before, After?

That's going to be hard to say without knowing how Secret Invasion will end but I'm gonna guess that SI is taking place after all of those. I haven't heard anything about the real Thor but, IIRC "Clor", the Thor robot-clone from Civil War will be returning.

I don't expect the "real" Hulk back until the end of Loeb's first arc on "Hulk." Besides, the last event was based mainly around him, so it's not like we haven't seen him in big events recently. Totally hope Thor does something cool though, "I SAY THEE NAY VILE SKRULLS!"

And he placed Asgard too close to OKC for it to be that cliche. But overall I can't really blame JMS for his portrayal, considering ever since Steinbeck wrote his world renowned propaganda piece...the rest of the US just kind of takes that as the "average" Oklahoman. Even so many years after the Dust Bowl(Which really just grazed Oklahoma, but that's another story) and the depression we're still regarded with questions like "you have electricity?"
So while I don't like JMS's Oklahoma, it really is just a symptom of a stereotype we've had since TGoW.

Yup, I would agree the first issue of the Secret Invasion was actually pretty good. I've been reading tie-in preludes (The Illuminati, New Avengers, Ms Marvel and Captain Mar Vell) which have a really good build up for this event. Such as, there's a Ms. Marvel Skrull and Captain Mar Vell of Kree might be as Skrull as well. Additionally, what's up with the Super X-Men Skrull that was in the New Avengers? I wonder if that Skrull was like the prototype. I can't wait to see how this ties in with Avengers Disassembled, House of M and Secret War.
I saw an inteview with Bendis on G4's "Attack of the Show" segment "The Loop" VIDEO LINK and he talked about the how he planned this event and the impact on the Marvel universe (which characters will not return and so on.
