Hmm....I have an idea...and then I realized that it's another rather depressing storyline, and literally all my non Face of a Warrior writing so far have been depressing happy

Maybe enough coffee and suger plus an all-nighter over break next week might be enough for some more humorous inspiration...or maybe not.

I'll definately be doing this. I haven't written an original piece in years. This is going to be quite a challenge.

What exactly is a subgenre, by the way?

^ Genre within a genre. Like, cyberpunk is a subgenre of sci-fi, that sort of thing happy

The deadline's long enough that I should be able to cook something up. Count me in!

I too am thinking about entering the contest, although I have a pretty busy schedule. If I don't submit an entry in time, I would be interested in judging.

Question....since you are the host of the game NYCitygurl, can you participate in the contest as well?

Wow. This was fast! I have an idea-- unwritten because it's so blastedly vague in my head -- that might start perfectly this way. Five weeks will be enough.

*dances* Yes, yes!

When I woke up this morning and checked the trap, there was a bunny inside!

Now my only problem is seeing if I can squelch it into just 10K words, and make it readable as a standalone...

Still have a question, though.
10.000 words aren't a lot of words to work with and I'm hoping to squash a decent story into such a small frame. So does the story have to be complete in itself?

I'm guessin yes, since it wouldn't make too much sense otherwise.
It's not so much the ideas, it's the 10K I might have a problem with.

Yes, the story has to be complete. It can deal with characters you've written about before, but WARNING: If you've written characters that you want to try to get published, don't use them here. It screws with copyright issues.

I haven't thought about that, but since I'm not planning to, it's a non-issue.

Hmm, I'd enter, but I'm not sure if I can write a story small enough to fit, and one that I wouldn't want to do something with in the future. I'll certainly keep an eye on this, anyhow.

Why would it mess with copyright issues, if I may ask? In at least the first four all we did was email them to the person in charge who, in turn, mailed them to the judges. That wouldn't cause problems, would it?

The plan was to post them here afterward so everyone could read them (unless someone didn't want theirs to be posted). Posting stories on the internet screws with copyright.

I've got some generic names of sorts that I use for all stories of a certain genre (for teen-ish stories, I use one set of names, for science fiction, I use another). Makes it easier because I suck at coming up with names. I figure that if I get some of this stuff published, I'll look in a phone book and change the character names. :P

I've got a 1000 words after one night of writing, so now I just have to make sure I don't end up writing a novel wink

I can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with.
