/Fume#################/
THAT was a non-event filler letdown. /sigh/
Although I will be interested to see Kara free leoben and them + Anders retake the ship.... aught to be awkward fun.

Too tired to collect my thoughts more formally, but this episode was exactly what I was looking for in the first four; a compelling "A"-plot that gave the episode some forward movement. As bat**** crazy as Starbuck is, I'm kind of hoping she prevails, because she's on the verge of taking us some place interesting.
Oh, Helo. Caught between your wife, your best friend, and your duty. This was definitely a good ep for him, finally. Though, I love Kara and Karl's friendship...they way they both just wanted to cry when Helo told her "no."
I'm also getting creeped out by how "Private Pyle" the Chief is getting. The scene with Baltar and Tyrol in the Chief's bunk was really good, though. Baltar was a decent human being and not being puppeted, for once.
So, does Baltar's c*** do everything but cure cancer? Jesus, that guy gets WAAAAAAAAY more ****y than should be allowed. I guess genius is a massive fricking aphrodisiac in the future/past/parallel universe.
In fact, all of the plotlines seem to be moving rather slowly this season. I think it has more to do with the fractured nature of the series at this point. The writers are trying to advance all subplots at once, thus leading to episodes that aren't very self-contained. I get the feeling that everything will get tied up very quickly at the end, but it's making the show kind of static now -- there aren't many peaks and valleys, even with some significant things like the Cylon civil war and Cally's death occurring.
(Also, my new offical userhandle: "Baltar's Hoodie")

I think most of the first ten episodes are going to be like this, with rapid advancement of storylines in the second half.
Just my opinion.

The show has always been dark. But it found ways to balance this out. Now that Baltar has gone serious and is spouting heavy-handed religious nonsense, that humour counter-balance has been lost. What's more, we're watching virtually every speaking role character go through some angst-ridden story which sees them descending into madness or depression. The show needs external stimuli, like Cylons or a threat, to happen fast in order to pull everyone out of their misery.
I think it's intentional BECAUSE of Baltar.
Baltar is the hope...both in the universe and to the viewer...now is this a redemption of his character...not necessarily...but it does focus our attention on his plot because suddenly Baltar is the only character with any clarity of purpose.
Now it all might spin again...but right now, "belief" is making Baltar an admirable character to those in universe (except for Roslin...but she's tyrannical and insane anyway.)

I find the role reversible unpalatable. But I do 'get' the intent.
*bah!* i have to another 4 days to see Kara on a base star ??!! /sigh/ I think things will start happening quickly after this weeks episode.

I guess I don't mind Baltar...his character's path has always been very well thought out, as opposed to some of the others which seemed like after thoughts.
What I particularly like about Baltar right now is that while he's protraying this turn toward embracing the prophetic role and truly being a leader...he is still Baltar...he still womanizes...still has conversations with "folks" in his head...Still has a significant self=preservation complex.
So they haven't "reversed" Baltar...only added to him...and somehow this oil & water combination of characteristics is staying together.
Baltar is the best thing this shows got right now. I swear I was welling up when he was talking to the chief...and it wasn't BS...and it wasn't some freakish "transformation"...it was a new side to already complex character.
I do hope Baltar lives...I suspect he will...I think his part to play in ending the cylon threat will be significant...and I think someone will "save him"...either six or perhaps Apollo.

I am soooo rooting for a Tory VS Six throw down. I can see Tory somewhat latching onto Baltar and not letting go. I feel that it may take Six (I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY) want Six to rescue Baltar from her.

It's called an emulsion, and it's really quite common. Think of salad dressings, eggs (which contain both fat and water), or cream. The real trick to combining oil and water is to beat it quite a bit (and add a few emulsifiers like what are found in eggs), and then you get some of the tastiest treats out there.
For example, you can make a wonderful chocolate mousse by melting 1/2 lb of dark chocolate (I recommend about 70% dark) with 3/4 c. of boiling water (or a fruit juice like cranberry or orange). Whip the resulting mixture until it looks and acts like whipped cream, then serve it up and enjoy. The fat in the chocolate (the cocoa butter) and the water combine to make a stable foam, which is better than either part by itself.
And, when you think of it, it makes a perfect metaphor for Baltar's character journey.

Esai Morales cast as Joseph Adams in Caprica.
This thing's awesomeness factor just got pumped up another 5,000 street-cred points.
