You need Angel as well as many plots carry over between the two. And then come back for the Buffy comic by Whedon and others.

Theoretical Argument:
Would Cordy have taken the deal offered at the end of Season 4? Why or why not?

Based on what we see of her reaction, I'd say no. Even though she understood the reason, she still wouldn't approve of what Angel decided.
BTW, Joss Whedon has confirmed that "Angel: After The Fall" will use elements of his planned sixth season. Check out my thread in the book and comic forum, for the full interviews from Newsarama.

Seen the 3rd season now. Im realy loving this show now and to my suprise there was not one weak episode in this season. More violence and gore than the last two. The mayor was a realy cool bad guy and seing Spike in that funny episode was all great.
The only downside with the seasons I have seen so far is that I have seen more episodes on T.V than I thought I did. I knew angel was a vamp, I knew that he would turn bad and knew he would leave So I remembered alot of eps from this season and season4 so plots are spoild for me.
Anyway Im gonna get the 4th today and still looking forward to some fun as hell entertainment

There are only about five episodes of season 4 that I think are up to the standard of seasons 2 & 3.

Well, it's a matter of taste, obviously. A lot of us who loved BTVS from its first season felt the quality of writing dropped after season three. There is definately a change in style and direction after s3, but there are fans who think that's when it started getting good. So who knows what camp you'll fit into?
I liked The Freshman, Living Conditions, Hush, A New Man, and Who Are You. Restless is a weird end of a season episode, but it's good.
Edit: Yes, s4 is the one with Adam.

I think there are more than that. "The Harsh Light Of Day", "The Yoko Factor" and "Restless" to name a few. You should also pick up Angel season one to see the rest of the stories that begin in season four of Buffy, as well as see some good episodes that don't feature a crossover.

Angel season 1 is a little patchy, but it does have some great episodes. Five By Five has the best fight in the series history, imo. Very good episode (as is its second part, Sanctuary).

Well I have seen up til hush on season4 and I still find it fun and entertaining A bit different from the 3 previous with Angel, Cordy and Oz leaving but then you got more Spike wich is always funny and Anya.
Hush is probably the best episode yet

Hush is an amazing episode. And the Halloween episode from season 4 wasn't to bad. But it still is my least fave of them all. Season 5 got back up to the first 3 seasons writing at least in my opinion. And Season 6 isn't to bad if you can get over a couple things. I don't remember enough of season 7 to say if I liked it or not.

Well I finished the whole series some time ago. I liked the 4th and 5th but it went down after that. Not that it was bad but it lost the fun factor and became more soap opera like The 7th could have been better if it was not for those potentials and how they messed up the whole chosen one myth. Pleased with the overral quality and seasons 2 and 3 rocked

My favorite Buffy season was Season 2, while I felt Season 4 to be the weakest. However, as many have already pointed out, there are still many good episodes in Season 4. I pretty much think Buffy is like pizza (or "Star Wars", for that matter )...Even when it's bad, it's still pretty good.

Ain't It Cool News are reporting that Joss Whedon has stated he hopes to launch “Ripper” as a 90-minute BBC movie in 2008.
