^ I don't know if that is exactly true. The actor is signed on for another season.

DarthLassic007 posted: Best episode tonight in a long time.
Couldn't agree more, there were so many parts of tonight's episode that were brilliant and I loved the scenes between Clark and Lex. From the previews it looks like Lex finds the fortress next week.

Are you sure? My understanding was the character that died last night is six feet under and will stay there. Either way it was a wonderful scene and a brilliant way to open up the show.

There is the possibility if the writers wanted to bring back Lionel.:
We never saw Lionel hit the ground. Neither did Lex. He closed his eyes. When Lex identified the body, the audience never saw Lionel. We all know the rule about comics, until you see the body, don't believe they're dead.
There are 3 people introduced in the show who could have saved Lionel because they can fly so fast. 2 can shapeshift. 1 knows Lionel is Jor El's vessel. If the writers wanted to bring Lionel back: The Martian could have swooped in, caught lionel, dropped him off on the street, flew back and changed into a very dead looking Lionel. Then phased through the coffin once Lionel was buried. I doubt any autopsy would be done for something like that. Brainiac could also do the same thing but since he's off with Kara far away from Earth, it's less likely.
The other option is Jor El kicks in and takes over and somehow a body is still left.
But all that is just if the writers wanted the character back. I highly doubt it though.

I actually thought it was Brainiac invading his body during the episode. I don't know why the producers wanted that to happen. He's most of the show.

FYI Channel TEN pulled it off for a while, but when they launched TEN HD they have continued it there, Thursday's 8.30 (in Sydney anyway)

We don't know for certain that John Glover really did sign up for season eight. That could've been tossed out there in order to fool us as to who was going to die. Least until the trailer for "Descent" aired giving it away. As to not showing the body, if you fell out of a highrise, it wouldn't be pretty. There's only so much that the censors will allow. If Glover were to appear, it'd be flashbacks.

I am inclined to agree. I keep hearing about how they were intentionally taking two people out this season...one who would be dramatically changed but not dead (Lana) and someone else who would be dead, permanently. Its been suspected for a while that Lionel would die and that his death would be the catalyst the pushes Lex over the edge...indeed we saw later that he killed the innocence within him figuratively speaking. I was glad to see that his descent was entirely of his own creation and not something that was caused from external forces, though there was certainly enough environmental influences to lead him down this path...but the choice of evil remains his as it should any villain. And it was a nice twist that the last thing that connects Clark and Lex is gone possibly forever destroying their relationship. I believe that the intention is for Lionel to be gone for good so the last leg of Clark's journey will be taken alone.
I suppose that Lex will be put away for killing his father and that will allow Rosenbaum an out for next season as he has made it clear he doesn't want to return.

I just don't see how this show could function without Lex. Obviously it could, but I mean that the whole core of the show would change. I think anyway.
If Rosenbaum doesn't want to return I think it will damage the show a lot. Killing off all of Clark's supporters might make sense, I can see why they would do it, but taking out his nemisis means he won't even need to continue on the journey at all. Does that make sense?
Not having personally seen any of this season I can't really give an informed opinion on Lana's changes, but it seems she changes dramatically in every season. Her character develops through all of the seasons, and S6 was the best one yet, I think. I know people have a lot of criticisms of that character, but I really like her. I'm sad about Lionel, but glad that this means Clark is one step closer to his "destiny."
EDIT: oh and seeing as spoilers are allowed in this thread, is there any reason we are blacking out what we're writing?

There will always be something for Clark to do, with or without Lex Luthor.

With the range of villains there are to choose from I would say that its possible to have a season without Lex that was good. I will miss Rosenbaum but I can see someone like Brainiac stepping up and creating great drama for Clark and Company...particularly since B is privy to Clark's secrets and weaknesses.
