That stinks, Panther50. I loved Soundwave and his little army of Casseticons. Ravage and Rumble were my favorites out of the bunch.

Amazing how many ways you can unfold a cassette tape into a robot, isn't it?

Ah yes that is amazing and I'm still wondering about Ravage's transformation sequence in Beast Wars becuase that was off the screen (Shame).

I suppose this is one reason for me to migrate to the Chinese sites and hope that the people in China will have the sense to make the movie sound as much like the original as they could (Chinese Soundie's incredible).

So does this mean we'll have Transformers Movie Toys to play with? If so, will we get human action figures as well?

i wonder what kind of music there'll be for the movie if there'll be a full orchestral score or what. i wonder what composer they'll go with. i wouldn't mind see someone like John Williams or James Newton Howard do the score

To whoever said it, I agree that the recent string of reimagined Transformers shows are TERRIBLE.

But I can't wait to see the Headmasters, Masterforce, and Victory DVDs. After Transformers was cancelled in America, the characters continued on for three more shows of 50 episodes in Japan using the original cast (of characters), with original personalities. I think the writers are different, so it should be interesting.

I hope they get the people who did the original show to dub it. At least as many as are still alive. And of course, they use the American names rather than the Japanese ones. Convoy doesn't carry the same heft as Optimus Prime.

I don't know anything at all about the Japanese non CGI Beast Wars sequels though. Odd even hearing that mentioned for some reason. I think the word "bad" came up.

Of course, Japanese BW has got to be bad if they've turned 'Razor into a guy simply because they think that male toys sell better.

I hope to hear Tony Baccala's remixes of the original TF:TM music in the new movie.

Well, considering that I post here, here, am a news reporter for that site, and did a TON of work on this, do I need to say that I'm a fan? wink

I also have a question for anyone whose getting the "Infiltration" series from IDW. Is it worth getting? I got almost all of the Dreamwave stuff, and promised myself I wouldn't go ape monkey this time in getting the comics. That's why I'm limiting myself to getting the Beast Wars miniseries.

Considering that they're comics, probalby not. Then again, the only comics I ever liked are mangas, SW comics, and X-Men.

For all of you who don't like dubs, this Chinese kid did an experiment on Beast Wars and will show you how hard it is to translate:

These are translated into Chinese and then back into English.

Blackarachnia-Black Spider (may be subject to change if I ever get my hands on Chinese translations of Greek myths)
Airrazor-Flying Knife (kept teh syllable count yay!)
Dinobot-Dinobot (kept the syllable count again!)
Rhinox-Rhinoceros, which ends with the character for Ox (and once again, still at 2 syllables)
Optimus Primal-Optimus Big Monkey (still managed to keep the syllable count, but with help from G1 for half of it)
Megatron-Megatron (I didn't need to do that one)
Silverbolt-Silverbolt (I didn't do this either)
Inferno-Wildfire
Grape face-Grape face
Big Banana-Big banana

And for the rest of the names, I either don't know enough biology (cheetahs and scorpions don't exist anywhere near China) or can't find anything that sounds remotely fitting.

Now, for some of the lines:

Well, that's just prime!-That's very good. (there's no equivalent for 'well')
Even when I'm good, I'm still bad.-Even if I'm good, I'm still bad.
It is not right to strike a lady.-It is not right to hit a woman.
We're all gonna die!-Aah, we're doomed!
I prefer to defeat my enemies the old-fashioned way... BRUTALLY!-I like to beat my enemy the old way---to beat them brutally.
Come out, kitty kitty, I won't hurt you... much.-Come out quickly, little cat, I won't hurt you... much.
Pain is my friend. Now allow me to introduce you to it!-Pain is my friend. Now I introduce you to it.

Fortunately, some of the stuff, like 'my queen', came out as nicely as they did literally, but it's hard to tailor lines to Dinobot's snarling and Waspy's buzz. I'd probably have to move Quickstrike from Texas to Mongolia for the sake of any Chinese audience since they only know Mongolian cowherds.

And I thought StarTV did a craptacular job of dubbing the Japanese shows.

With Spielberg Producing, it's possible John Williams could do that score. My only problem is that the Transformers theme music from the original series was so popular, it would be hard not to use parts of it. I wonder if big composers like Williams and Howard would use it. My only problem with Batman Begins was that I kept wanting to hear Danny Elfman's Batman theme. But it just wasn't there and the music itself was mediocre.

Marc Shaiman I believe was told not to put the Addams Family theme music into his score for the movie in the early 90's. But he did so and the director liked it so they kept it. Hopefully we'll get someone like Shaiman who realizes the importance of such classic themes appearing in the big films.
