No, the first episode actually aired December 26th at 8PM eastern time. It was the "Pilot" episode. The series starts it's regular run on Saturday.
Here's a link to the discussion of the first episode

Seibertron.com has an article on their front page about it. Sorry you missed it, I watched it and I was none too impressed. I miss the G1 cartoon.

Well, I caught the "first" episode tonight, and I obviously missed the setup content, explaination of the girls' key and Starscream's betrayal of Megatron in the pilot. This first episode basicly is a psuedo-remake of the G1 episode Day of the Machines in broad strokes (Decepticon-influenced computer controls a scientists smaller bots and industrial machines to attack). The show is definitely a Teen Titans/TF hybrid in style, feel and direction- it has some fun aspects to it, and is appealing more for the TT side of things than the TF aspect. The transforming aspect is particularly weak here.
That said, there are some good points to the show- Bumblebee has his eager New Yorker personality back (though it's marred by Beast Boy-like aspects, and I hate Beast Boy). Prowl is a pretty cool character so far, the theme song is really close to the original G1 Season 1 rendition, and Corey "Shockwave" Burton is, judging by this episode, easily the best Megatron voice since Frank Welker. There's a really neat John Hurt-meets-Malcolm McDowel similarity to his Megatron voice that's really quite effective that restores that sinister edge to the character.

Caught the 3-part pilot- there's actually some good stuff, and plenty of G1 nods in this thing:
-The opening logo and "historical footage" are flashback footage from G1, with a similar narrator voice to G1.
-Ratchet's voice and personality is amix between G1 Ratchet and Kup.
-Ultra Magnus & Starscream's voices are pretty close to G1 too. Definitely the best Starscream voice since Latta (in fact. it's almost just like Latta, which is pretty amazing)
-There's a quick Spike, Carlie & David cameo, wearing their movie suits (which makes sense since this new show is set in the future)
-Robodog named Sparkplug.
-Teletraan-1 uses sky spies.
-Allspark's appearance is a mix of the movie's cube and the Matrix.
-Prime goes grey when he dies ala the movie (didn't waste any time getting that out of the way, did they? )
-Megatron's salvaged head looks very much like the G1 version,d espite starting off as the movie style.
Also, there's been several uses of the Bionic Man sound effect, hehe.
Also going for it is the human characters aren't as annoying as the ones in Armada (though Sorry has the hyperactive Teen Titans thing going on at times).

Lorenzo di Bonaventura on G.I. Joe, Transformers 2
We're nowhere because of the strike, we won't know until we come back. We have a very fine outline and we know exactly where we want go with the movie but until this writers strike comes back, we'll find out exactly where we are. Michael is completely on top of every detail. He's designed a lot of great stuff already. He's got a lot of great sequences imagined but you know, he needs some writers to work with before he's ready to go, so I would say June 2nd is an unofficial start, it's the target date we'd like to go for but, you know, we've got to get some writers to help us.

Minus the reference to Spike I managed to catch all that too and just wanted to note that I like who they didn't just focus on the whiney second in command aspect to Starscream (though there is plenty of that) and really made him sort of badass and a potentially dangerous adversary.
I could really do without the Anime aspect to it and so far the character stuff isn't impressing me too much. Ratchet leans too much towards Kup for my tastes and Optimus Prime's voice makes him sound like a whiney teenager (I hope that evolves as his character grows). Not a fan of where they are taking Bumblebee at all, and all their roles seem almost cookie cutter stereo typical (the cute cocky comic releif, the crotchety old fart, the dim witted big man, the Zen-like warrior). I can't wait to see that addition of more characters.

Spike and co are shown briefly early on once they get to Earth, getting ice cream or something from a street vendor- I believe it's during the "this is Detroit with robots" sequence.
And yeah, Starscream seems a lot more powerful (though he was prone to fits of bloodthirsty rage at times in G1). He's also a bit bigger than Prime, which I like. Kinda shows the movie didn't need to make Starscream smaller. Bumblebee I don't mind too much, though he gravitates towards Beast Boy territory sometimes (and I hated Beast Boy), he does a bit of the New Yorker spunk in him from G1, though lacking the boy scout element from holding him back.
The character roles are archetypal but that's pretty much been the case for every incarnation of TF- we're just dealing with a smaller unit of characters so it probably seems more obvious, not having another dozen characters around them to blend that perception across.

Well I think many of the G1 Characters were a little greyer in their archetype, even in smaller numbers. It just feels like its trying too hard to kid friendly, which it really doesn't need to since Transformers has always been kid friendly. And I am likely biased by Bumblebee since he was always my favorite growing up (or at least rivaling Optimus).
For the record Beast Boy isn't a bad character they just pushed all the character of the Animated Teen Titans into equally absurd territory as the new Transformers series, in order to make it kid friendly...

I agree there is definitely some "making it kid-friendly" aspects present.
And Beast Boy, even when not being annoying, generally ended up being useless in battle, as he hindered the team or was used against them 99% of the time

Maybe its just my perspective but the comics Beast Boy wasn't nearly as inept.

That likely could be the case- I can only compare things based on the animated TT show's presentation of him (though he wasn't too bad in that last season with the Doom Patrol).
Also, considering the color scheme and engine design of the Autobot ship/Ark- I'm guessing the "Omega weapons" or whatever it was Prime tried to activate when the Nemesis was attacking but couldn't due to Energon conservation efforts, ends up being the ship itself can transform into Omega Supreme.

Yeah, this week's one with the Dinobots and Megatron's head scheming was pretty fun. It's just damn eerie how G1 this toon is.

I think someone posted all the episodes on youtube.
and kinda random rant but I'm sick and tired of running into nothing but slash when reading TF fanfics.

Just noticed this piece over on SW artist Dustin Weaver's blog (scroll down to see the TF piece-and there's a standalone of Prime further down as well)
I think this goes a long way to showing how some of the classic designs, with a few more parts, could become more viable in a realistic rendering, without going so far to the other end of the spectrum as the movie bot designs (though there'd probably still need to be a little more parts beyond what Dustin did for it to be a fully viable movie design).
Irregardless, it's pretty bitchin'.
