Tonight's episode was good. Although I think it would have been stronger without the cliche 'OMG the world went to hell while you were gone, let me tell you about everyone's tragic ending' (fortunately some thought did go into those endings - I enjoyed Ronan and Todd).
I find it ironic that the 1969 episode was cited, since IIRC it took the view that the timeline couldn't be changed (ie the note for Gen Hammond). But whatever.
Actually, since it was a trap in the end, did Shep really travel through time? Or was he captured and brainwashed by Michael?

I was wondering the same thing whether or not he was captured and brainwashed but I'm thinking maybe Michael created the hologram McKay and he actually did travel through time. Or with what you said about the timeline and it can't be changed, that may mean he didn't actually travel through time and was something evil and elaborate by Michael.

Ooh Michael creating the hologram is a good idea. Esp since they did say that the solar flare part of the story checked out.

Either way, Michael is a freaking genius.

I thought last night's episode was quite good, but, assuming it's not a a trap by Michael, I think it would have been much more effective to have told the tale as it happened in chronological order, instead via flashback/storytelling. Things like the Carter/Pheonix sequence ( , reminds me of the good ol' alternate timeline Carter from season 1 of SG-1; "oh yeah, and I also wish to blow us straight to hell.") would have had a lot more impact had they done it that way (especially with hardcore fans knowing that Carter was going to be replaced by Woolsey next season), instead of knowing this was gonna be undone instantly.

I liked how there was sand out the window of Carter's office after Shepherd got back.

Last night's episode was great, one that I really enjoyed alot. Neat idea about the hologram being a trick by Michael - maybe what the hologram said was all a lie, and the Atlantis team really saved Teyla and whooped Michael's ass and lived happily ever after, and Michael just made the hologram to give himself another chance(and then set a trap for Sheppard). It's possible, but unlikely, I think. Mostly b/c the hologram knew things that Michael wouldn't have been able to know(like McKay's sister and what not). Still, it's a cool idea.
The episode itself was awesome, one of my favorite finales ever, I think. The only issue I had with it was I thought the last 2-3 minutes should've taken place in the S5 opener - I think this episode should've ended with Sheppard going through the gate, or coming through the gate and saying "We're on the clock." or something like that.

Actually Michael probably could've known who McKay's sister was. Considering Sheppard went 48,000 years into the future, who knows when Michael made the hologram if he did. He may not know who she is now, but he may have very well figured it out in the future.

Well the first episode of season 5 has found its way onto the internet...
Lots of interesting moments, on a whole I think it was above average and I know you can't judge a whole season on just an episode, but if this is the standard of things to come then it seems the episodes will simply be just 'more of the same' in comparison to the previous 2 seasons...

So...it wasn't a trap...the building just collapsed because they tripped some random alarm?
Were the writers on crack or something?

I figured it was probably a booby trap from the S4 finale. I don't think Michael would want to risk his work falling into enemy hands while he's away. If it was a trap, that would mean Michael was somehow aware of Shep's solar time jump, which I don't think is possible.
Anyways, I thought it was a pretty solid episode- a lot going on between the stuck-in-debris and delivery character scenes to the engineer rescue scenes, to the ship and fighter combat to the rescue mission to the Woolsey tag (which manages to establish the relationship between S5 and Continuum).
Highlights:
-Ford cameo (glad they haven't forgotten about him- maybe there's hope of seeing a recovered non-lost Boys Ford in the future?)
-Asgard beams cutting short the cruiser's hyperspace escape.
-"I don't watch The Simpsons, or drink beer."
-The small nod by Col Caldwell to Sam as they agree on the rescue mission plan.
-Dogfighting solid as usual.
-"Major Marx, please make that ship go away."
