I'm a huge fan of all the movies (save Final Frontier), but the TOS TV series never really hooked me in.

TOS is still fun to watch on Sci-Fi sometimes. And to my knowledge this is only series when the Hippies come into the scene "The Way to Eden" Season 3 was bad.

Season 3 was bad, but it had gems. Although yeah, 'Way to Eden' was horrific.
And no problem, Binary_Sunset. i lurk there but haven't posted there. The main site and www.ditl.org are my two main ST technical info sites.

From Season 3, I'd have to say I liked The Enterprise Incident, The Tholian Web and The Paradise Syndrome. I AM KIROK!!!!!!!!!!!!! A couple of the end episodes like The Cloud Minders, Whom Gods Destroy and All Our Yesterdays weren't bad either.

How can you all call yourselves TOS fans and not mention The Trouble with Tribbles I have way too many favorites to list and even the bad ones are worth the laugh.

Finak Frontier isn't that bad, highly underrated I would say.
Anyway I use to enjoy TOS. I think I've seen most, if not, all episodes. But when I use to rewatch them recent I just couldn't get into it.

Oh yes...the tribbles. We'll I was just about to get to that. Great seeing Trelane back as Captain Koloth and poor Cyrano Jones having to pick up every tribble on the station

The Trouble With Tribbles was a great episode, but not my favorite. 'Balance of Terror' is mine. Also the very first piece of ST I'd ever seen, back on Saturday after Thanksgiving in 1986, 8 PM on channel 50.

While I do enjoy the movies and all the TNG+ series, I just can't stand watching TOS, for the most part. It has it;s moemnts, but I just hate the look of it- the softfocus female closeups, the suddenly dark-but-with-light-across-their-eyes male closeups, it just really, really bugs me.
That said, some episodes are watachable despite that, but only a few fom the handful of eps I've seen.
Anyways, I am however embarking on watching the whole series, attempting to determine what episodes are essential to the ST shows in general (mainly what episodes are relevant to the plots of the movies and other series, ie: Space Seed for Wrath of Kahn, Tholian Web for that one Enterprise episode, Mirror Mirror for the various mirror Universe eps, Trouble with tribbles for that DS9 ep, etc) and perhaps what couple of episodes are actually worth watching even if they aren't connected to the more improtant shows.
That in mind- any other particular episodes spring to mind (besides the above mentioned) that people would suggest I keep my eye open for?

TOS IMO is still watchable. Sure you can have the best special effects now with Enterprise, but storywise you can't compare with the original. TNG is exempt from this.

It's not so much the special effects- I can handle bad effects taken into historical context (though I'm amazed someone hasn't done either an official or even fanmade revision of the FX shots from TOS, given that even off-the-shelf software could produce sequences that mesh well the rest of the franchise), it's just the general look of the show itself, and a little bit of the acting (not always so much the main characters, usually the supporting ones though)- but that's mainly a product of the time it was produced (but, unfortunately, unlike special effects, older acting styles is not something I can generally adjust to easily).

You know I mostly agree with 2ndQuest, before I watched The Doomsday Machine episode. Still a classic I think the classic episodes are rewatchable. I really suggest you watch those episode 2ndQuest.
I kind of wished the other Trek shows would at least continue some materials used in the TOS episodes (Enterprise season 4 is an exception to this). I would pay good money to see a Doomsday machine vs Borg type episode. Another example would of course be the Gorn and Tholians only after 10 movies and a grand total of 26 seasons (!) did they appear again. Although the Tholians have been mentioned before in DS9 IIRC.
Ah well, watching The Doom Machine episode made me realise that the Trek franchise can still survive. It needs to be handled properly.
