Gateworld's advanced impressions of Continuum - some minor spoilers, but the gist is they're claiming Continuum is one of the best SG stories ever, possibly the best, and that it could have easily passed for a theatrical release (and apparently reference a quote by Brad Wright that Continuum is an "audition" for a theatrical movie).

It's funny that, going by that review and others I've seen posted by people who have seen it, these two DVD movies have actually had the opposite reaction in regards to people's expectations from the original announcement- everyone was psyched about Ark of Truth but was indifferent to Continuum's premise, whereas AOT has had a mixed critical reaction yet Continuum seems to be getting great reaction.

I hope it does live up to this hype. I was left a little flat by AoT. And if it's true RDA gives one of his best turns as Jack, then to quote a certain General with two 'l's:

"Sweet." cool

Can anyone give me a precedent in history where a show had to "audition" for a theatrical budget?

I love this show...but I think the communal delusion is getting almost uncomfortable.

Truth is...The team is getting old...and there is only so much they can do to hide that fact.

And honestly...I don't really want to see Browder on the big screen...if it's not RDA leading the team...it's not the SG-1 I want to see up there.

I think they are just taking small steps- they know SG-1 does very good on DVD, so first they test the waters with some DVD-onlt releases to see how they perform outside the Tv arena, then take it a step further theatrically if warranted.

And it'll be me and six people in the theater...just like Serenity.

Is there really that random a pickup of straight to DVD sales over TV?

Oh...that reminds me...I was at blockbuster the other night...

AOT...it's in the TV shows section...they didn't put it on the shelf with the movies....apparently blockbuster doesn't consider it to be much more then a abbreviated season.

I suspect "continuum", even with this hype...will be treated similarly.

They might have mistook it for a single-disc release of part of a season like some shows have done in the past, or a stand-alone release ala SGA Rising or SG-1 COTG.

Agreed, it is awesome, and much better than the AOT cover, however I was kinda hoping for some continuity between covers... oh well!

It really reminds me more of some of the original Stargate movie posters and DVD covers.

It's ok.

CERTAINLY better than AOT.

Helps making it look stylized rather then stock photos thrown on a cover.

Damn, they changed the artwork sad

Not bad, but not as good as the planet one- it felt more epic.

Also, Gateworld article

"For me, an SG-1 movie should include O'Neill. That's how I feel about Stargate," Wright told us. Already a third SG-1 movie is being considered, and if nothing else, Brad says Jack needs to be back.

"[The third Stargate movie] is an O'Neill story, and I would include as many of our cast as we could, both financially and in terms of availability."

"These are talented people," Wright said. "They may well not be available at our beck and call when the next time we want to make a movie. And that's what happens.

"But you know what? They have a good time when they come, and I think these guys had a good time making Continuum. Is it likely we'll ever get them all again? That's kind of unlikely just because of the math. But our core folks, I will move heaven and earth to get them if I can."

"I think Jack and Daniel and Carter and Teal'c, and Mitchell now, to a certain extent, and Landry now, to a certain extent, are part of the fabric of SG-1," Wright told GateWorld. "Fans will get mad at me if I don't put them in."

you can leave Mitchell on the bench whenever you want, Brad.

Landry is fine...as long as they never insinuate he's anywhere near as effective as Hammond.

For an epic SG-1 project you must have:

Daniel, Teal'c, Carter, O'Neil, Hammond

A little Bra'tac don't hurt neither. praying

I think the biggest issue facing SG-1...since about season 8...they just don't seem like a real "mission" team.

They are the resident experts...experts who's value in leading prospective fields vastly supersedes the needs of having a team on the ground offworld.

There have to be a couple SG teams with a mission record that's "impressive"...even if a far cry to SG-1.

The cast is getting old, and as they make them more and more about these "off mission" items...it gets harder and harder to see them "thrown" back into the mix like the good ole days. It started with Jack becoming a General and got really bad when Mitchell "reforms" the team.

If you want to bring the team together...you're gonna have to start presented it in another fashion then "the galaxy needs SG-1"...dust them off and call them in from the things they are paying attention to OTHER then that job.

Oh crap. We're losing notable people every week lately. Stan 2 weeks ago, Carlin last week, now Don. Take a vacation, Death- it's almost the 4th of July!

At least we know Death gets whats coming to him in the end.

Farewell, Don- have a good journey to the Alpha Site.
