I loved this movie. I wasn't expecting much from it, since pretty much all the other comic book movies I've seen have been terrible, but I decided to go because I love Batman. I was blown away. It was great! It was very character driven which is just right for a Batman movie, and I loved what they did with the villains. As usual (unsurprisingly) the Scarecrow was a sort of lame vilain, but I liked how this was the most real and terrifying version of him that I've seen. And then Liam. Wow. I did not expect him to be the bad guy. At the beginning he reminded me of a mislead Qui-Gon, which lead to me being greatly surprised to find that he was the mastermind of it all.
It was a very cool movie, and I hope the sequel is as good as Begins.

It was funny, because I called the Liam thing. I remember being kind of ticked that they had changed Ras Al Ghul so much, because Ken looked NOTHING like the comic version. I went into the movie with very very VERY low hopes. Then I saw Liam come on, and I said "He looks EXACTLY like Al Ghul from the comics." And after Bruce saved him, I knew he would show back up as the real Al Ghul at the end.
Also, it was very cool seeing the movie, I saw it the day before it came out, all by myself. Private screening. Very cool.

The only thing I didn't like about the film was the pronounciation of Ras, I was expecting the animated version pronounciation, but when I heard his name for the first time on screen I was like "da hell?"

Considering I never read the comics, it's not hard to see why I enjoy Nicholson's portrayal (as well as Burton's interpretation of the series).
But I also love Begins, and can't wait for the loaded sequel (if only they could put Max Shreck in there somehow as homage to Returns...)

I loved this Batman film moreso than any previous effort. Why? Because we got the full backstory on Bruce Wayne. That was one element that was missing from the previous Bat-franchises.

It is impossible to imagine any one as The Joker because in the cartoons & comics he look barely human. How many sequels are there going to be?

Daredevil was laughably terrible, IMO (to be fair, you could see hints of a good movie every now and then, though). It's quite possible that Elektra was a better film. But even with all that said, it had better action scenes than BB did. I thought I was the only one who felt this way. But I really got nothing out of seeign a bunch of quick edits of a foot and a fist and grunt, and someone's coat flapping around as they hit the floor. It just left me feeling kind of stupid, as if I had reached down to get popcorn or something at the wrong moment, and missed the coolest part. But I didn't--they just denied us the opportunity to see it.
Anyway, for the film as a whole, it was enjoyable. As others have said, it did a good job on the vengeance/justice debate (coincidentally, a debate similar to the one that they attempted to carry through in Daredevil, though I was never throoughly convinced that he was actually good). I also thought they handled the intro story neatly enough. And I appreciated the film for the greater degree of "realism" it had as compared to many movies in this genre. That's why I was kind of disappointed when they completely retreated from this aspect at the end of the movie.
But oh well.

Yeah, but part of the reason why Daredevil was so bad was because they got it so terribly wrong. They could toss out all the action scenes, and I wouldn't care less as long as the characters were given justice. Plus Batman was never about awesome fight scenes, it was about the cool gadgets he used to take out the baddies. We always knew that when worse came to worse Batman COULD fight, but it was always one good swift kick.

Check out some of my pics of Brody on page 1, you add a longer chin and I say the resemblance is striking. As for Batman sequels, everyone is signed on for three films, including Begins. That doesn't mean there will be three, just that if they decided to make three everyone is contractually obligated to show back up.

anyone heard that this is to be the year one trilogy
each one dealing with a diffrent emotion?
i heard this is how goyer wants the films to go
the second one will have harvey dent teaming up with batman and gordon to take joker in alive
then in the 3rd dent is hrribly scared in the jokers trial

i'm having a hard time believing they'd bring in Penguin for the next one. he doesn't seem like he'd fit in. they left it open for Scarecrow to come back with him escaping in Batman Begins. and obviously it's going to be joker for the main villain hopefully

My only real problem with Begins was that it read like a term paper. Nolan wanted us to know that little Brucie was afraid of bats, that the mod boss uses fear to maintain power, that the League of Extraordinary Gentleman  ) use fear to affect social change, that the Scarecrow loves to observe fear, and that Batman must also use fear to gain mythic status.
I got it in the first few minutes. You didn't have to hammer me over the head with it for the entire 2 1/2 hours. I got it.
