FirstShowing.Net - Aaron Eckhart Confirms Two-Face and Two Performances in Dark Knight

Very intriguing. Particulary this: "Nolan shot complementary takes of Eckhart in Two-Face makeup so he could visually represent the duality of Dent in a less cartoony fashion." What that means, in essence, is that "he's a fifty-fifty split of the same actor giving two wildly divergent performances in the same shot. And because he has two takes of each scene, Nolan has the luxury of shaping Eckhart's performance in post."

I'm getting lost int he poor grammar and vague sentence construction in the above quotes. Does this mean that Two-Face is only scarred pshychologically, and that shots of him in make-up will be interspersed with "clean" shots so as to effect the idea that he only looks like a monster in his own mind? If not, then exactly what are the above quotes talking about?

In some versions, prior to being scarred, Dent suffered from dual personalities. It sounds like that might be the case here. Either that, or once he's scarred, they will show pov from harvey and the pov from two-face. the two-face shots would likely have the scarring added digitally.

It sounded to me like they filmed the scene twice. Once with him acting normally and once with him in Two-Face make up and are kinda super imposing them together. That way it makes the distinction even more clear and crazy. Say he has Eckhart do an entire scene like Harvey saying all his lines that way. Then do the scene again like Two-face. He then decided what is best and sticks them together. Although now that I think about it that seems like a ridiculous way to do something but could work. However, what was said above makes sense too

Talon-Kenobi, thanks for the clarification. I think I get it now. It reminds me of Gollum in TTT and ROTK, where one angle shows nice, submissive Smeagol ("Slinker") and the other shows grimacing Gollum ("Stinker"), but basically it's one character having an argument with himself. I'm sure it will be stylistically different in TDK, but this now makes sense to me --assuming that's what they meant.

Sounds cool. I'll admit I've never been much of a Batman fan(I've only seen two of the movies, and only once for each) but I think I might go and see this when it comes out. If I do, do you guys think I will need to watch all the other movies beforehand? If not, which ones would you recommend anyway?

Should probably watch Begins, since this is the sequel too it and the end of Begins leads nicely into this movie. Over the other movies I recommend Batman (1989) and Batman Returns. In my opinion both are great movies especially the original. Stay away from Batman and Robin. Forever can be equally as cringe worthy, but it has its moments.

Oh and the Adam West movie. There is something to be said about Batman running around with a cartoon bomb in his hand

Thanks, I'll rent those some time and watch them. I think I watched Begins and Batman Returns, but I'm not sure.

Understand though that Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are a completely different set of movies from Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. Not sure how aware of that you are as you stated you weren't really much of a fan.

Though its the same character the continuities are not tied together so there won't be consistency between Dark Knight and the older Batman films.

However, Batman Begins is a must see before seeing The Dark Knight as it specifically ties into the events of TDK.

I agree with what others have said. I highly recommend watching Begins before TDK.

"It all depends on who is making said picture. When Tim Burton was involved it was going to be a natural extention of "Batman Returns". But once he left the project, it went into the crapper. If someone were to put the same kind of care into Nightwing that there is with the current Batman films, with respect to the characters, then it'll work."

Although, I never heard of Burton being involved with a Catwoman spinoff, I do whole-heartedly agree that with the right person at the helm, any flick can be great.

Never said we couldn't. But yes, Burton was in talks to do a solo Catwoman film way back in 1992 after "Batman Returns" had come out. But it was in development hell around 1994 or 95 until 2001, when WB began to move forward.

Now, in regards to the character of Batman, it depends on what you want Fel. "Batman Begins" is required to enjoy "The Dark Knight" and features a bit more of an accurate look into the character's origin. The four films ("Batman", "Batman Returns", "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin") are a different continuity as mentioned. You can watch them just to watch them, though personally, I'd recommend not watching the fourth film. It's just bad.

Just out of Curiosity, where did you happen upon that info? I'm not arguing, but I've been a huge Burton fan since way back and I've never come across that, and I've read several books about him and his projects. Seeing as how he was booted off the Bat series because the studios felt he made "Returns" too dark, it's surprising that they would then go ahead and give him a spin-off...

I'd have to dig it out, but it was talked about in a comics magazine called Comics Scene Spectacular. It was a magazine from Starlog and they covered comics and comic films and shows during the 90's. I think I still have those issues, but at the time, WB was interested in having Burton do Catwoman.

I have this one. I'll dig to see if it's that issue or the next.

^ ^ That spoiler seems to confirm what's been rumored for weeks or months: that Dent is only going to be Two-Face at the end of TDK in order to set up the third film.

That was my original understanding and that article certainly seems to indicated that Two-Face is playing a major role in the third film, not the second.
