Dobby's death is a possibility, perhaps they could begin it when Ron comes back though.
That would be something... Harry's sitting there, watching the snow and suddenly he sees the Silver Doe and sprints after it. A great beginning!

Based on the amount of action and exposition that was crammed into the final chapters of the book, I don't think a later cut would be unreasonable, as in around the approach to Malfoy Manor (which would make for an exciting opening to Part II) or Dobby's Funeral, with the second starting with the lead-in to the raid on Gringotts. Placing the cut close to Ron's return might not be a popular decision because it would cut Ron's character from so much of the story, and I don't think that they could make his return have enough of an impact to be the close of the first half (although, given the butchering and nonsense that they pulled with OOTP, I wouldn't be surprised by anything at this point)

I'm still all for having ron's return at the beginning of the second film. It's a positive note to start on, and there's a lot of action either side.

I'll have to re read DH to form a proper opinion, but I'm so excited for HBP! I love the development of Snape through this book. Actually, Snape is probably my favourite character and Rickman does such a good job of him.

Having the same directer as OotP I'm not too worried about the ruined factor (even though HBP is my fav book) I was fairly impressed with OotP, unlike GoF.  Thanks for the pic too!
