Eccleston is a great choice as Destro.
Also new this day is this.
SuperHeroHype posted: G.I. Joe Starts Filming Today
Source: The Associated Press on February 11, 2008
In an article talking about Hasbro's fourth quarter results, it was revealed that G.I. Joe starts shooting today:
Two Hasbro-related live-action movies are scheduled to be released in 2009 — Transformers 2 and G.I. Joe, based on the Hasbro action figure starts shooting Monday, Verrecchia said. Despite a Hollywood writers strike, there were no delays in the movies' production schedules, he said.
Paramount has scheduled an August 7, 2009 release date for the Stephen Sommers-directed action-adventure written by Stuart Beattie. Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Said Taghmaoui, Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Arnold Vosloo and David Murray star.

Dennis Quaid's casting finally gives this film some A-level talent. The casting so far has been a very eclatic mix of new comers, C-listers, and fanboy faves.
Anyway here's the first photo of Quaid as General Hawk.
From http://www.hollywoodchicago.com/forums/1260/first-image-of-dennis-quaid-as-general-hawk-in-new-gi-joe-film
Also Coming Soon reveales that Jonathan Pryce has joined the cast as The President of the United States.

In 1977 George Lucas created the Star Wars Trilogy and changed the way we look at movies. In 1999 George Lucas created the Prequel Trilogy and changed the way we look at Star Wars. Frasier, Lost, and Whose Line Is It Anyway? are the best tv shows ever.

wow...I don't think it has ever taken fewer "production" shots to tune me out completely.
So let's check the score sheet:
Cast: bad
Plot Premise: really bad
Early Production Photos: wth
Congratulations Sommers...you blow more with each passing year.
I know it's impossible for the guy to take anything serious...but come on!
I will give one comment of praise on the Eccleston pickup...I think he's serviceable...a poor-man's Ralph Fiennes...and the circumstances sound reminiscent of the "Viggo as Aragorn" legend. Hope it turns out as successfully.
But, as Mr. Quaid said...this is gonna be slapschtick
Edit: Oh...and Pryce as the President? of the United States? of America?
That should be amusing...I wonder if he'll try to go Texan, or Bostonian with his phony accent.
"So Mr. President...where were you born?"
"Wales!"
"Wales?"
"Yes...Wales, Wyoming..."

Slightly off topic: ToonZone has news that the different GI Joe min-series will be on DVD with special battle packs that're coming out in June. In case you don't remember the mini-series were called:
The MASS Device
The Weather Dominator
Pyramid of Darkness
Arise Serpentor Arise

I'd wait till we actually some footage before judging it to much. And this is a GI Joe movie not the Dirty Dozen, I would expect it somewhat light in tone. They are trying to sell toys after all.

And elsewhere, I am beginning to dig this movie. A bit. Not much, but enough to make The Lorax come out and play catch.
So are those supposed to be Ray's real muscles? 'Cause it looks really smooth when he stretches, but bam -- it's all bunched up when he's not. I don't think even a super-ninja is that ripped.
I wonder what direction they'll take with the Storm Shadow design?
And now I want to kill myself for even wondering that.

Those pictures definitely look cool. Until I see a trailer that impresses me, I'm in the same boat as Leto.
