After years of David Duchovny talking about the sequel, and almost 10 years after the first feature, 20th Century is finally ready to start production on The X Files 2 with the actor in place to reprise his role of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian Anderson is also expected to be back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully.
Shooting is scheduled to begin on December 10 in Vancouver under the direction of series creator Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.
The studio is referring to the film in casting breakdowns as "Done One."
The popular series ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. Rob Bowman directed the first feature, which hit theaters on June 19, 1998.
 Let's hope the news is true.

Finally. After hearing Duchovny talk about this happening for like 8 years. I love that he hasn't turned his back to the thing that made him a household name, unlike some others...
They, at least, need to bring Doggett back. Reyes would be cool too, but the story, I believe, will focus on Mulder and Scully on the run.
It'll be so nice to have something other than The Dark Knight to look forward to.

The long-awaited second "X-Files" film is finally a go, with 20th Century Fox setting a July 25, 2008 release date.
Untitled project reunites "X-Files" creator Chris Carter will thesps David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who will reprise their signature roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
Carter begins lensing in December in Vancouver from a script he co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz, a veteran scribe of the long-running "X-Files" television series, which became a worldwide hit during its 1993-2002 run on the Fox network. Spotnitz also co-wrote with Carter the screenplay for 1998 feature "X-Files." Carter and Spotnitz will also serve as producers.
Studio is keeping the film's logline under wraps, but stressed the pic is a stand-alone story and supernatural thriller that takes the complicated relationship between Mulder and Scully in new directions.
As of now, there are only two other titles skedded for July 25, both comedies. Sony unspools Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly starrer "Step Brothers," directed by Adam McKay, while MGM has bows untitled Ice Cube family laffer.
Plan to bring the "X-Files" sequel to the bigscreen was waylaid when Chris Carter brought a 2005 lawsuit against Fox over how the "X-Files" syndication profits were divvied up. Suit was later settled.
Earlier this year, the issue seemed to have been resolved, with Duchovny and Anderson both indicating that the film was finally moving forward.
Released in 1998, feature film "The X-Files" grossed $187 million worldwide, including a domestic haul of $83.9 million and an international cume of more than $103 million.

So Anderson is going to be in it now? Last I heard she did not want to do it.
I am glad she is going to be in this film. It would not be the same without her.

Maybe now they'll finally either have the aliens start their invasion or have the plot ultimately foiled.
That was the only problem with the first film...they could do nothing that would mess with the ongoing series.
Couple things though:
If somehow they are still working for the FBI, I'm crying shenanigans!
Same thing if somehow the 2 of them haven't been together all this time...(I can already see the "briefly married, then divorced, haven't seen each other in 5 years schtick)...don't pull the rug out from underneath your character's growth, Chris. Have then living in a secluded cabin in the Cascades somewhere doing "supernatural investigation for hire" or something...but have them together.
No Doggett or any of the late series junk...but they can bring back Skinner for sure though. Was he even in the first film? I don't believe he was.
Anyway...super geeked for this...though I gotta say watching reruns of the series is a terrible experience (kind of a "I watched this" feel), I am still very much looking forward to where they can go now.

We pulled a few nuggets of information from a new article over at Variety about the ongoing WGA strike. First is that 20th Century Fox thought of pulling the plug on the X-Files sequel, but it would have cost too much. They also report that the film is rumoured to be titled X-Files: Done One and will shoot in December.
X-Files: Done One?
What's up with that title? Lets hope it's just a big dumb rumour.

Lance Henrikson seal of cult movie status.
They better keep him out of the trailers...he is one of those actors who's "known" participation in something instantly destroys it's credibility...been that way since he did STONE COLD.
I don't personally have a big problem with him...Millenium was perhaps his most credible work...but the dude has a stigma.
Having said all this...I have to rush to IMDB and check if he cameos in AVP2...if he does...it's the kiss of total loss.

The trade announced that sources indicated thespians Peet and Xzibit playing FBI agents alongside Mulder and Scully in this stand-alone supernatural thriller. Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz developed the screenplay with creator Carter going behind the camera to direct.
Production will begin in Vancouver this month.
THE X-FILES 2 will hit theaters July 27, 2008.

great, a non alien film. Don't get me wrong, I loved the mythology part of the show, but kinda got lost with it after the first movie.
I started watching the show in Season 1, I was in 7th grade then. The first show I ever saw was either Ice, or it might of been Tooms.
This was also the first show where I followed it online too. Wasn't this the first show that had on online following?
