Got mixed feelings about this. While I was a fan of the cartoon, I'm getting tired of the dearth of originality coming out of Hollywood these days. I mean, it seems like everything is either a prequel, sequel, adapatation, remake, or some combination thereof.
It's like the powers-that-be in Hollywood are succumbing to mass fanboy-ism. "It would be freakin' sweet if I could make/re-make (story X) on the big screen with today's technology!"

Chancellor_Ewok posted: not to mention the fact that it looks like nothing else I've seen before.
You should rent "Spy Kids 3D" sometime, then. Looks exactly like it.
The very beginning of the trailer, the first shot on the looping tracks, looks great. That's about it.
If the whole movie looked like that, I'd be sold and psyched. But the movie looks like Spy Kids, and that's just sad.
There's nothing innovative or spectacular about brightly-colored art direction or impossible camera moves, and even some of the money shots in this trailer are swiped from The Matrix.
I'm going to end up seeing it, because I'm addicted to event movies and I'll give just about any film a fighting chance of entertaining me, but I am not impressed by this trailer in the least.

I can't decide if it's fantastic looking or just a nightmare of misery.
I really REALLY wish they would've done REAL cars in real environments and added some CG pop, rather then sticking actors in a blue screen mess at all times...this is like ROTS levels of blue screen...yikes!
The jury shall remain out here for the time being...the cast seems decent (now the lead guy will be Known for more then that flick where Elisha Cuthbert was a porn star)
We'll see if future promotion dooms this one or not.

It's furiously campy, but I must admit the trailer looks like some mindless fun on epic proportions.

Watching these bizarre trailers reminded me of two equally odd ones I've seen this past year, both for movies that ended with different results: Beowulf and Southland Tales. I'm guessing it could be like Crank -- so crazy, you either get into it, or not.
My eyes feel raped. It out-Spy Kids 3-Ds Spy Kids 3-D. Bring me a monkey with arms akimbo forthwith!
Don't think this is going to be anything deep, but ultra-entertaining it could be. Nice to see a film totally unconcerned with realism. It looks like a Tsui Hark film with a budget of infinity.
Also Nintendo can kiss away any chances of making F-Zero into a movie, as this looks exactly like F-Zero GX in progressive-mode on the 'Cube, with a healthy dose of cartoon traits. I like the way Matthew Fox is actually delivering his lines like an English-dubbed animé.
So yeah: eyecandy-carpetbombing, ninjas, and monkeys equals a certain amount of "win" right out of the gate. Roger Allam doesn't hurt, either. And was that bowler hats on thugs I saw in the first trailer? Extra points for those, too.
Talk about using the available picture-framing:

I really like how they aren't trying to rationalize every characteristic of the series, and simply just rolling with the insanity. It's a fresh approach, at least. Personally, "live-action animé" sounds like a threat, not a selling point.
But, on the other hand...monkeys. Torn.

I had the same thought (especially since an FZ movie was on my "want to make into a movie one day" list ).

If this was real, the monkey and the boy would have broken necks.
If it's going to be "G"-rated, though, then they must have removed the regular crash- and bullet-related fatalities present in the cartoon. Seems like they'd make more money with at least a "PG" rating, like The Incredibles. Regardless, this movie looks like a ****job for the eyes.
So, can I assume that this film will NOT feature Alpha Team's dirty remix of the Speed Racer theme-song?
As a side note, I used to have this single, but it was stolen from the college radio station I used to DJ at. Thief, if you're out there somewhere reading this, payback'll be a bitch.

I like the look of this. Looks fun, actiony and, I say it again, fun.
Also think I'm slightly in love with Racer X. I think it's the mysteriousness thing.

I never really cared for Speed Racer, but I'm kinda interested in seeing the flick. It looks like something a little different from the norm and I think Emile Hersch is a good actor. I've liked all his flicks so far. I'll probably check it out.
