Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Date: Tuesday, January 29, 2008
We were just discussing the subject of Sam Raimi's future in yesterday's Del Toro-Hobbit story and now we have an answer as to what he will be working on. He has hinted about this in previous interviews but the latest press release has this production moving on the fast track. Raimi is developing a new television series called Wizard's First Rule, which is based on Terry Goodkind's best-selling epic fantasy series "The Sword of Truth.", a novel series which was began in 1994 and has released 10 additional novels since...
The director-producer is teaming with Disney and ABC on a first-run, live-action weekly series which is being targeted for a fall launch, says the Hollywood Reporter. Production will begin in May for the first 22 episodes with Raimi acting as executive producer alongside Rob Tapert (The Grudge), longtime "Xena" partner Ned Nalle and Joshua Donen.

Yes, but if done right they could be engaging, pretty shows. Between this, Preacher and A Song of Ice and Fire, I'd put this one ahead of Preacher and just below the Martin opus as far as chances of having it done decently.

Oh God no...
If it's just the first book, then fine. But if they try to do the others then I'm praying for a second writers strike.

I wonder who they'll cast in the Fred Savage role for this new version- and what will replace Mario 3 at Video Armageddon? A lot they could do if they go the BSG route with this reimagin-
...what? Oh? Oh. Not based on that Wizard? Huh. Alright. Gotcha. Yeah, no, I'm good, thanks. The post? Oh, I'll just let it go. No, I wasn't that attached to it. Good times, though.

DigitalSpy posted: Two join Raimi's Wizard's First Rule
Wednesday, May 21 2008
Craig Horner and Bridget Regan have joined the cast of Sam Raimi's fantasy television series Wizard's First Rule, says The Hollywood Reporter.
An hour-long series from Disney-ABC Domestic Television and ABC Studios, the show is based on Terry Goodkind's fantasy series The Sword of Truth.
Horner has been cast as Richard Cypher, a woodsman who becomes a wizard to stop an evil tyrant. Regan will play a mysterious woman named Kahlan.
Production on the 22-episode series will begin this month in New Zealand. The show will debut in the autumn.
Raimi will executive produce the series with Robert Tapert, Joshua Donen, Ned Nalle and John Shiban.
He is currently directing the horror film Drag Me To Hell for Universal.

What was Disney-ABC production ON when they greenlighted this project?!?
Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed the first book as escapist Fantasy, but did they not realize how astonishingly GRAPHIC the first book, alone, is?!? There's NO way they could present an adaptation of the first book on network, and maybe even cable, television, without hacking good sections of the book away.

I saw that movie, 2ndQuest. Every mum in the world wished their kid didn't.
I know nothing about Goodkind's series, really, other than a mountain of negative feedback. Can't judge what I haven't read; but dramatising something on tv has got nothing to do with a mere book. Look how sh-t the star wars novelisations are, compared to the enactment of live events. Different media, different presentation.

My utilisation of complex locution to ask what's more pathetic, fans who worship their movie actors, or the actors who couldn't give a damn, is more a reflection of my own superincumbent mental actuity than any circumscribed lexicon. Don't you agree?

Perhaps your aim is true on this one Ex. I've read about half of the first novel (will finish it someday), and I could see a TV version pruning some of the more over-the-top elements in a matter of speaking. Really you don't need abundant graphic violence or sex to make something adult. There is a reason for the porn section.

Right. It's not like the tv adaptation of Game of Thrones is going to have all the porno filth that Martin delights in. Or mention stuff every single scene too.

HBO is a completely different world than ABC. We will for sure get some nice midget porn in that one.

I liked the books when I was younger, but the last few were pretty meh.
I'm cautiously optimistic for this - I want it to go well, but I don't know if it can.
