ComingSoon posted: Coraline
Release Date: February 6, 2009
Studio: Focus Features
Director: Henry Selick
Screenwriter: Henry Selick
Starring: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Ian McShane
Genre: Animation
Plot Summary: Based on Neil Gaiman's international best-selling book, "Coraline" is the story of a young girl (voiced by Fanning) who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home, and enters into an adventure in a parallel reality. On the surface, this other world eerily mimics her own life - though much more fantastical. In it, Coraline encounters such off-kilter inhabitants as the morbidly funny Miss Forcible and Miss Spink (French and Ms. Saunders, respectively), and a counterfeit mother (Hatcher) - who attempts to keep her. Ultimately, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home.
McShane will voice the role of Mr. Bobinski, an irascible, beet-eating Russian giant who lives upstairs from Coraline's "home" in the parallel reality.
The popular music group They Might Be Giants ("TMBG") will provide songs for the film.
I like the book and I belive that this film will be great.

Shock Till You Drop posted: Focus Features Official Coraline Synopsis
March 4, 2008
A Christmas present to animation enthusiasts, Coraline, the latest from director Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas), opens in limited release this December and Focus Features recently passed along the following plot synopsis.
A high-definition stop-motion animated feature – the first to be originally filmed in 3-D – with spectacular CG effects, based on Neil Gaiman's international best-selling book. A young girl (Dakota Fanning) walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother [Teri Hatcher]) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family

Love the book, it's one of my favourites.
Still not 100% sold on Dakota Fanning as Coraline though. Maybe that's because I'm English and always saw this film as being set in one of the big old houses that are always turned into flats that we have in England.
After hearing her in the trailer though, I'm intriegued and curious about Terry Hatcher's Other Mother.

Yeah I agree with you. I'm not completely sold either. But I'm optimistic.
