Really? So what programs can transfer LW to 3dmax?

Deep Exploration can convert most any file--sometimes the textures might not work correctly, (LW-->Max) but it can always convert the mesh and sometimes even the animation. Works really well converting Maya-->Max (and that's directly from the Maya .mb file to a 3ds Max .max file).

Another good way to import/export models from an application to another is to use Alias OBJ format. Most application can import or export it today. The only things you lose are skinning and material (it keep materials, but not advanced settings like map channels), but these are lost anyway what ever exportation you do. However it keeps mapping coordinates and mesh topology (no tri), while these are often screwed up when you try to export to 3DS or DXF.

Hey DVeditor.... you know why these image links don't work? If you click the "image" button this is the exact code it makes. Who do we ask about fixing this?
Yodajared: This is really a very good likeness. I tried PM'n you. Why don't you email me scifi3d@theforce.net

yodajared, When you host the pics on imageshack and it gives you a list of links, post the direct link instead of the php one. This forum apparently doesn't support php script.

Well, the hair doesn't look right, it's probably just the Blender hair, I've never really liked the Blender hair, it looks like very thick strands and the hair is very bright.
Besides that the model needs textures, on the face it needs some texture maps. Of course SSS would be nice to make it more realistic, but that's not availible in Blender. The cloth needs a texture also, a diffuse texture and also a bump map.

It's a nice model, but you really need some decent skin textures.
How did you do the lightsaber?

Btw the model looks great now, this is turning out better than the ILM yoda model, but you now need to give him a darker material. When his lightsaber is on you need to give him interactive lighting, make the glow of his lightsaber bigger. But I dont know how that works in blender!, anyway good luck with the model!

I figured that out myself. To everybody... just post your URL. Don't use the image link buttons. The code knows it's a url automatically.

I've been really busy lately, but was able to improve yoda. I fixed his skin texture a little. The hair is as thin as i can make it now, unless I am not seeing something in blender. Neothehacker: To make the lightsaber, i simply took an edge and subdivided it a few times until the points were fairly close. Then i duplicated it, one for the core, and one for the glow. I gave both a halo texture with appropriate colors and sizes. Both also have a halo alpha map.
Also, about the glow. I faked the glow by parenting a green colored area lamp to the lightsaber and aiming it at yoda. I don't believe there is a way to emit light from halos or particles in Blender.

I think this model is the sickest thing I've ever seen. Do whatever you want, it has certainly served you well. With the saber, and I'm sure you already know. If you have an isolated core layer you just use an additive key for the glow. That will give off some extra tint to his surrounding skin and robe. Might have some realistic lighting issues with a light attachment like that when you go to animate him otherwise. I do like your method though, it's not too little, not to much either.
Keep it real, that's a freaking understatement.
