Whoever markets Blender should be calling this guy. It's awesome. The most accurate maybe I've seen yet.

Well it does suck compared to applications like Max or Maya. I know "it's the artist, not the program ,blablabla", but modeling tools are way more powerfull in Max and allow you to do the same thing in half the time it would take in Blender. And Silo is even better at modelling than maya or max.
And this yoda is very nice. That prooves that even with a simple program, you can get great results if you learn how to

Just think how this would look with SSS applied... You'd just about have it. Throw in some ZBrush and work a little on the hair and you've almost got ILM yoda. Very very well done.

Thank you everyone, but, as a perfectionist, I am not completely satisfied with this model, and I am going to star over...Again. This is mostly for reasons not apparent in my renders. First of all, the topology of the mesh is very poor, and it probably should be changed. Blender is difficult to work with at times, in this case, blend shapes for facial expressions. If I make a model then give it facial keys, I cant change the original model unless I delete all of the keys and start over again.
Also, I want to get this as close to the Episode III model as possible, and my main problem is getting an accurate front view reference. The only place I have seen a head-on front view of the Ep.III version is in "The Making of Episode III" book, on a page showing all of his expressions, as seen here:
Page from the book
If anyone has this book and is willing to scan and e-mail me copy of the page, I would be very greatful. But I am going to finish this for sure, so don't worry.

I've got a reference book of a whole bunch of stuff from the prequels, with multiple views of most characters, so I think I could find a good reference pic of the front of yoda.
Actually, come to think of it, in the last issue of Star Wars Insider there is a portion that talks about the animation of yoda and there is a picture with a reference of his main facial positions, I'll try to scan that too.
EDIT: Looks like you have that picture, but I'll scan it anyway because it might be bigger than what you've got.

Here are some movie backgrounds from screenthemes that show good details on Yoda, one has him looking forward with his lightsaber on one side, and then there are a couple more with details.
