Thanks guys. Appreciate it. And Thank you evil but we wont be replacing him, we made a concious decision. He was 17.5 years old, he was born in my bedroom cupboard 5 weeks before we got married and has been part of our lives for all of our marriage. We are both pretty cut up tonight. But he had a good life and was loved very much.

oh, that is sad. I'm sure everyone knows how much I love cats. They are not pets ! They are members of the family. I'm really sorry for your loss.
I think that a kitten however(whenever you were ready) would ease the pain a little though. Kittens are gorgeous.

We, as a family have decided that due to Addiesclones and my allergies, we won't be getting another cat. The chicken is going to a farm this weekend and then we will be down to two guinea pigs and two dogs. And if we have to go away they are easy to take to mums. Having a cat meant mum had to come here every day when were away, made it hard on her. So after 17 years, we won't have another cat. I will miss him horribly, I am now, I just emptied the cupboard of cat food, and took away his bowl and sleeping blanket. He's got a solar light over him and last night we had a candle on his grave burning all night to light his way to where ever he was going. But believe me, holding an animal you love while he is being put to sleep to stop his suffering is so painful, even when you know you are doing the right thing, your heart aches.
