I have recently gotten interested in the novels written in between the prequel episodes. I sense another SW 'collection' starting ... there are more books out there than I realised. 
Oh well. They'll surely be something to enjoy, as the books after the ROTJ haven't particularly caught me.

the EU for the most part is awesome ! There are some books that have completely sucked sure, but I really liked the Vong series & there were some really stories in the Legacy era. Once upon a time I refused to read the EU, now I couldn't count the novels I've read..70 ?? 80 ??

All the prequel stuff has been GREAT !
All the stuff after ROTJ is mostly tripe. IMO

what about the Vong series ? That was different atleast. I liked that for the most part. The beef I have with most EU novels these days is the "superflous fluff" put into them ! If you look at the original SW novels printed in 77,80 etc..these were a 200 page concise story. You can tell some of the best stories ever written in a short space if it's well written & thought out. I just feel that the 350+ novels that are being churned out these days have a lot of things that'd be better on the cutting room floor.
A lot of the time less is more. I'm up for a long movie or even a 600 page novel if it's all relevent content & advances the story.
The biggest problem from what I've heard & read is that unless you turn out a 350 page manuscript publishers wont even look at these days 
I do however like the EU for the most part including the NJO & Legacy era's

LotF: 'REVELATION'
now waiting for 'INVINCIBLE' to come out in paperback,
and have just finished,
Republic Commando: Hard Contact
I'm about to start,
Republic Commando: Triple Zero

I don't have time to read them, but from what I've gleaned, I reckon the Vong series would make for some damn fine movies. Even if only full CGI...not that there'd ever be a SW film that was full CGI.

It seems that George doesn't want to remake existing stuff. Understandably for much of it, but more's the pity for some of the potentially really exciting visual stuff. Not to worry, if it's not ever done officially, technology is getting good enough that it will be done by the fans (for better or for worse) at some point.
The first time I get around to reading a series of SW books it'll be the Vong stuff, then Sean's stuff. I'm a bit over prequel trilogy related stuff at the moment.

and you should read it, it's quite good, a little long in places but good over all
