I went in not expecting much, and I was pleasantly surprised. It was entertaining, I actually squealed a little when I saw the actor who plays the janitor in srubs. It's very unbelievable, but that's what I expect from an Indy movie. I just laughed it off and enjoyed myself wink

It's no 'raiders', but I thought it was still a great movie happy I was really worried they'd do some stupid passing of the torch thing and I'm soooo glad they didn't. lol

Think of it this way, he hasn't really changed & neither has his style, we've all grown up & become jaded by the world surrounding us.
If we viewed these films as we were 20+ years ago, I'd bet we'd have different opinions..... we were KIDS back then. We never considered the quality of the film making or the storyline..
George's legacy has been to give us jaw dropping spfx. He raised the bar & set the standard, unfortunately for him, his viewers have higher expectations...

Personally, I LOVE the prequel films (all of them)

I concur totally.

even the bit about the prequels too... Sure I liked the OT better, but how on Earth could the PT live up to the hype & expectations of the movies that changed a generation ? It's unfair expectations. Jar Jar was annoying, but I think we're mostly all in agreeance there, but the rest was good, really good I think. To expect another " ANH" or "ESB" is unrealistic. Like evil said too, remember we grew up with these movies, it's something we hold dear in our hearts.

Now to Indy. All of the above can be applied to the new Indy movie. It's been 20 years since we've a new Indy movie. To expect it be as good as Raiders is just wishful thinking I believe. Raiders was something special, IMHO the BEST action adventure there EVER was. Temple of Doom & Last crusade good but still no Raiders.

When I saw Raiders I was 9 years old & it changed me like Star Wars did. Not much older for the other movies. It WAS my childhood. I remember puting a hat on my Han ESB figure because I couldn't get an Indy figure. These are my childhood memories. That is why Indy is so dear to me.

The new movie takes place 20 odd years after Raiders, the Nazi's are gone. They had to be, it's 1957 now. If they tried to set it in 1940 with Harrison aging 20 years & it being set 4 years in the future it would've just been stupid. So they had the timeline to contend with. They had to work out what Indy had been doing in those 20 years ? What had Marion been doing in those 20 years ? What is the world like now it's 1957 & come up with an intersesting story & I think they did.

Sure there were things that were just impossible, but that's any Indy movie. You think the odds are good diving out of a plane in a life raft & surviving are good? There are moments in ALL of the Indy films when you either chose to believe or just say that's rubbish, I just don't buy it. This movie is the same, there's moments that you go " That couldn't happen" but it's no different from the others.

I think they did the best with what they had, given the 20 year time frame, came up with a great story & if you take it for what is intended to be, just a light, fun , action adventure you won't be disappointed.

I liked it a lot & am going again on Tuesday night.

Long live Indy !!

We're hopefully going on Tuesday. Glenelg Cinemas have $8 movies on Tuesday (and $11 at other times!). Although it's not quite as fancy as the Megaplexes, I feel passionately about going to suburban cinemas (like the Windsor at Brighton and on Henley Beach Road). Much better vfm and a lot more personal...and no allocated seating dammit!

If we don't support the suburban cinema, it'll become a thing of the past like drive-ins sad

I haven't seen Raiders of the Lost Ark for probably 20 years...I really, must remedy that soon.

What a GREAT year to date it has been for movies !!! grin

On Thursday night SP & I went to see The Incredible Hulk

Amazingly better than the last Hulk movie. Ang Lee's Hulk movie was like a moving comic book rather than a serious superhero movie. This one was dark & brooding and all "Hulk Smash" rather than "thoughtful" Hulk.

The effects were brilliant & it even had a couple of similarities to the old tv show for those old enough to remember it. Edward Norton was great and Liv Tyler was a great choice as Betty Ross.

All in all :

coffee coffee coffee coffee

Tonight SP, Quin & I went to see Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I thought this was excellent also. I liked the first movie, but this one was even better. It had a whole good Vs evil feel to it & even a duel to the death/Luke V Vader scene.

The light humour was pleasant, the CG effects were great & a very good fantasy storyline. I thought the 2 female actresses were a touch "wooden" & reminescent of Jake Lloyd, but all in all it didn't bother me so much as to effect the experience. The walking tree's were extremely well done & showed Peter Jackson how to make animated tree's not look like an episode of the Muppets tongue

Thoroughly enjoyed & recommend this movie.

All in all:

coffee coffee coffee coffee

It's been a better year this year than last and it's only half done !!

Indy was fantastic !
Iron Man was fantastic !
Hulk was great !
& Narnia 2 was great also !

Still have The Dark Knight & Clone Wars to come !! dancing

The best overall year of movies since I can't remember when ! grin

hope you like Indy, don't take it too seriously or literally & you'll have a great time. Like James Bond, sometimes Indy can do the "Impossible" But it's a fun ride with the man in the hat again grin

Well, saw Indy today with Justifier and the kids and all of us (kids included) weren't overly impressed. It was ok, but a little predictable. The action as always, over the top, but I don't know what it was, but it just didn't grab me. To each his own I guess.

Saw Speed Racer this morning (in an entirely empty Glenelg Cinema! 9.30 Sunday morning is a good time to see a movie!) I actually really enjoyed it, and being alone with the kids in the theater gave Dots and I the opportunity to cheer, geer and boo at the appropriate moments. Addiesclone wasn't as impressed, but she's never been a rev head! tongue Visually, it assaults your eyes and is very 'special effecty' (for want of a better term), the story line was similar to the cartoon series but with political and 'big business' overtures. Some of the story went over the kids heads, but there was a bit of violence (the piranhas eating the guys finger were cool!) for the guys. Over all, it was like the cartoon but with real actors, and I got a kick out of it. And does Racer X reveal himself to Speed?!? You'll have to see it!! wink

Yep, have to agree, it didn't follow the story line, (which as always being a huuuge Narnia buff irked me just a little,) but God...I'd watch any movie that had Ben Barns (Caspian) in it. drooling And William Mosley isn't too bad either, <I might have to fight a few teeny-boppers for them but I'd win. tongue >

Ahem, any rate yeah I was also glad there weren't any kids in the cinema when I went and saw it though, I could just hear my niece complaining about the length of the movie in the back of my head. wink

Definately a favourite, didn't want it to end. peace

Felt sorry for the guy two rows ahead, he'd gotten him and his little tickets and only 10 mins in she tossed a hissy fit over some lollies, he dragged her out screaming and never saw them again. Waste of money that was. But yeah, might have to beat a few Teenies and Tweenies, but worth it!

Really enjoyed the latest Indiana Jones movie. Went in there knowing what to expect - exciting action sequences and big sets, and it was fun watching them. Plus Shia LaBeouf is nice to look at... tongue Of course, there should have been more character development, but oh well, still liked it. happy

Also saw Prince Caspian too. Not sure if I liked this one overall, maybe because I didn't understand parts of the storyline. Also Ben Barne's performance bugged me.. or maybe it's the character I don't like. Trumpkin the dwarf was interesting...

Can't wait to see The Dark Knight!!!
