I have CritterTek. It's a BattleTech knock-off (which is a Robotech knock-off), and all the giant robots are giant robot...animals. It's fun to play when nobody's had any sleep and/or not sober.

That sounds fun! We also own the best game in the world...The National Enquirer Game - you have to make up rude headlines for random pictures. Weird but fun when you are too tired or stupid to know any better.

Ok, that definitely took this gaming thread to the lowest common denominator...

So, how about an RPG... let's go back to Battletech or something...I'll stop posting now... monkey

We should have a "Fist Full of Turkeys" game night!

FFoT is true vintage game spoofage!

FFoT is a product of "Some Turkey Games" (a spoof of Steve Jackson Games (if you don't know about Steve Jackson Games... well I feel sorry for your lack of exposure to the finer aspects of 80's geek culture..))

(look nested parentheticals!)

Kaety, Kaety, Kaety.... (disapointed/patronizing tone)

Not the NE game...

We're talking REAL games, with dice and paper and maps and miniature dohickeys with swords and guns...

Not freakey party games involving Mikhial Gorbachev and Swedish swimsuit models...

I'm up for most any sort of game... Providing the cost to enter isn't to high (i.e. cost of nifty little miniatures, manuals, etc.).

I haven't played must for a few (say 18) years, so most of what I have on hand is considered "vintage" (2nd edition D&D, Car Wars, Traveler, tons of Avalon Hill stuff).

That still gives us tons of options.

As far as miniature gaming goes, most BattleTech minis are around $8-10. And all the math sucks. LOL.

Three mech games I've found that are cost effective, fast to play, and easy to integrate into RPG gaming are Heavy Gear, Gear Krieg, and the Jovian Chronicles. They're made by Dreampod 9. They all use roughly the same combat system.

HG is a ground-based game. Two different scales -- squads, and entire armies. Close to BT, but without the annoying 15 minutes of filling in your magic dots with a #2 pencil. wink

GK is a ground-based WW2 mech game based on the pulpy German "iron man" concept. Game is weighted more towards infantry/tank-based because of the era.

JC is a space-based game. Because of the game system, the actual combat is a lot like Robotech/Gundam.

Another game that just recently came out is Warmachine. It's a squad-based mech game, with a smattering of other small things like infantry...

BUT WAIT...

It's steam-punk.

Mechs + Dark Ages = funky magic voodoo wizard things.

I haven't played it yet -- only have a few minis and the main book. Pretty much -- it's BattleTech + LOTR. You've got your Orcs, wizards, magic, and Undead...but you've also got steam-driven mechs with ghostly magic AIs running them. Kinda neat.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and it's made by Privateer Press.

I think Warmachine sounds fun...maybe we should try that...

I'll ask D_N_T what he thinks. (He's in Canada, eh)

DreamPod 9's in Canada, too. Hence why I can't get anyone I know to play their games.

And I hate Canada more than anyone I know! grin

France has come out with some really awesome games, lately, too...but everyone hates France. LOL. wink
