Is there any interest in Spokantina joining forces with an actual Battlestar Galactica Fan club? I don't mean actually moshing the 2 generes together just a polite regrouping of the respective fan bases under a collective banner. Afterall even Colonial warriors had to go somewhere to have a good stiff drink.

We have good stiff drinks here?
I'm kind of curious as to how you see this regrouping working? It would be kind of an interesting mix so I am kind of curious how you think it would work before I start throwing around ideas.
Let the discussion begin!

Some of us do.
Are you talking about Classic Galactica, or the recent travesty that goes by the same name?
Both have cool outfits. That's about where I believe the similarities end.

Are you talking about the goofy Star-Wars ripoff from the 70s, or the modern kick-ass series?

Actually both, with a rather HEALTHY ammount of extra genre roleplay. The Local club is really kick ass. we are the "black sheep" of the 3rd fleet. The Nightstalker has it's own small tactical strike force. Not to mention the ship mascot"s" are hellhounds (the scaly cat things out of Riddic". We do a lot of dramatic liscence.

Just a bit of license
So is the Battlestar group primarily an role play group?

Yes by eMail. But we are trying to get other things together. That's why I'm trying to join our forces. It's a real kick. I'm supposed to be recruiting for it too.

I find it funny that you started with a Star Wars group for recruiting
What other activities did you guys have in mind?
Also, I hope to discuss this more at a meeting, but we are still trying to nail down a time for that.

I guess I'm joining this convo pretty late :\ but I'd like to do some BSG costuming (awesome new show, not slighly less awesome old show), Kelli and I are working up plans now for a reproducible Colonial Officer Uniform. The idea is that we'd set up a pattern (actually, we've already found the perfect McCall's pattern, it just needs slight modification) and then create a list of materials and locations to procure those materials, while keeping the price down (i.e. easy for everyone else). And hopefully, we could put together a costuming day focusing on BSG costumes. I'd like to have a Junior Officer uniform (silver trim) finished by SpoCon (August 1-3) if anyone's interested, let me know.
As far as a BSG RP, I'm intrigued... mayhap there is more information? Would the current BSG group be interested in costuming/cosplay? That's all I've got for now

Also, anyone interested in doing a LAN day and playing Beyond the Red Line? It's a free, cross-platform (PC, Linux, Mac) multiplayer BSG game. We could also play it online too

Cosplay
So, for anyone who's interested, we found the perfect wool blend suiting at Hancock's in Cd'A last night, they had about 10 yards for $2/yard, needless to say, we bought the whole bolt. I've also bookmarked a store on eBay that keeps senior officer (Adama, Tigh) and junior officer (Apollo, Starbuck) rank pin sets in stock, as well as the shoulder patches. While we were at Hancock's we also picked up the base pattern in every size, we'll be making modifications and replicating the patterns so that there's enough to go around, we've got sizes up to 3XL. One last note, I'm looking at some navy blue suede hides on eBay for the shoulder contrast.
Still waiting to hear if anyone is interested in doing some uniforms.

Sorry for the absence. MAJOR hard drive crash! (terminal meltdown requiring reformatting)
If you require a LOT of info regarding the BG fanclub eMail Cybcorsair@aol.com with your questions. THis is the commander of the local fanclub / Battlestar Nightstalker. I'm sure he can answer ANY questions you have regarding the group.
Thanks:

The more I read about BG the more fun a Viper pilot costume sounds like wearing

If you mean the flight suit, you're SOL, the material for that is special order only, and they only do bulk orders. Sometimes the Colonial Fleet or Dewback Wing will do large orders if enough people are interested, but not very often.
