Hey everyone, Nick, Kelli, Stan and I are all really busy preparing for SpoCon (1 week!!! shock ). I need to know who's planning on attending. We'd like to see as many of you as possible show up. Also, since we're so busy, I need someone to help us setup the Fan Table and help run it while we're running around helping with the convention. I've got our cantina bar (probably needs to be cleaned up) and I've got the sign that I made. If you guys can think of things for the table. perhaps costumes to display, props, etc, that would be awesome, I doubt I'll have time to do any printed promo material, but I might try (I get good prices at work). Let me know if you guys have any ideas!

I will be there as much as I am able on Sat and Sun (friday's out because of work) I will help man the table but I definitely do not want to be the only one doing it! Step up Y'all and let's work out a schedule. Please either post here or contact someone in the comcom with interest and availability.

Also, are we going to try for a Spokantina group photo? If so, when? Are we planning a "theme" day? (everybody dress as a..... on this day etc) How about Smugglers or Force users for themes?

I will be there! I even have a room!

Apparently I will be Chairing a Panel on Friday. About props, so I should be okay.

I can help man the table. Since it looks like I won't be submitting any of my stuff for the Art Show, I can have things like my Sabres and E-11's displayed while I am there.
I just won't man the table alone.
Like Erik said, we should make a schedule.
I'm open to suggestions that aren't too early in the day, and are not after dark.

I dont want to man the table alone either. I cant say when I'll be avaliable because I cavnt seen the shcedules (panels and gaming).

I am on a panel at 3 on Friday. When will the table be there to be set up? (Not waiting around lurking the hallways for half the first day like RadCon)

I will have a cheap Dejarik board for the table. Nothing fancy, just a small one on matteboard like a normal chessboard with the blown-up Sideshow figures on cardstock cutouts (think cheap RPG cutouts).

I will also have John's DVD on me.

OH OH OH! idea CAN ANYONE BRING A GLUE-GUN (WITH GLUE) SO I CAN FINISH A PROP TO WALK AROUND WITH (ANY MAYBE LEAVE AT THE TABLE SOMETIME)?

Dont know what I have to show that qualifies as being made from junk tho.

TRASH?!?? props from Trash???

Seriously, this is the sort of information that I need ahead of time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say my stuff is made from "trash", but a lot of it is from lucky finds.

Chris, I don't have a gluegun, but I do have a rubber cement that can very solidly attatch almost anthing to anything.
Is that good enough?

Alfredo:

It might. I need to adhere some vacuumformed styrene pieces and insulation foam to a plastic bowl.

I have a few items I can honestly say I made from hardware store bits and thrift store found-objects. I'll try to come up with a list.

Props from Trash

Anyone else think that title sounds a bit yucky? Perhaps even... trashy?

I'm still going to do the Panel, but the title makes me think of grapefruit rinds and bannana peels. With a healthy dollop of flies. Joe says it makes him think of dumpster diving.

How about these titles:
Props From Damn Near Anything
Props From Everyday Items
Props From Things You Wouldn't Imagine Could Be Props

Sigh.

* sounds of flies buzzing about nearby *

Yuck. Get em, boys...

* sounds of crickets, preparing for battle, in the evening *

Thanks Nick!

Tell me what you think of this idea:
If turnout to SpoCon is good, and the Prop Panel goes okay, what would you say to me running a Lightsaber Building Panel/Workshop for the next SpoCon? I could bring a few tools and enough premade parts for maybe three people to build a variety of sabers. We'd have to do some kind of drawing for that part, but it would give the rest of the attendees a really useful hands-on view of the process.
It's just an idea to kick around.
Plus, it would probably have to be a two-hour Panel.
I don't know if that's a plus or a minus.

Seconded!
I heard great feedback from SpoCon and look forward to many crazy stories, from my uncle and the rest of you. I could not make it due to work issues (Not all of us can be like Stan and Matt and attend the Con while working), but it sounds like everyone else had a blast!

We made convention history. nearly 700 people in attendance on our first year, and we had a packed opening ceremonies, masquerade and closing ceremonies, and on top of all of that, All of our Guests are thinking about returning as pros and attendees for future SpoCons, because they had THAT MUCH FUN (Including Mark Ferrari who previous to the con said it may be his last for a long time). When I look back, i get choked up, it was a really amazing experience to see the wolf auditorium packed with hundreds of people who were not just there because we asked them to be, but were there because they wanted to be, and because they believed in what we were doing, and wanted to help spread literacy and fandom. I feel sorry for anyone who has to hear SpoCon stories, because you'll never know what an amazing experience you missed.

A good time indeed!
The Con had a consistent feeling of fellowship from beginning to end.
Totally worth attending.
