EBay... local used CD stores... Amazon or other online retailers aren't too bad for new copies.

In my opinion, they are well worth the purchase price. If you are short on cash, start with one and build up your collection. I'd start with ANH or ESB.

Do you possibly know if there is one big box set of these.

Well, there is the 1993 Anthology box set, which contains the original soundtracks plus a bonus disc of then-unreleased score. In the long run, you'd be better off buying the three SE sets, IMO. There are several users here who advise that the ROTJ tracks have better sound quality on the Anthology (as opposed to the SE discs). And, of course, you get pre-SE tracks like "Ewok Celebration". I own both the Anthology and the SE sets (and an original ANH RSO cd set). You can never have too much Star Wars score. wink IIRC, I bought my Anthology set on eBay a few years ago for a pretty reasonable price - so maybe if you just want to start out with one low-cost used cd purchase, that may offer the most bang for your buck.

I would recommend the '93 anthology for two reasons:
1) Star Wars-Main Theme: Almost an overture for the ANH soundtrack. And to have the LSO version on it is superb. As opposed to inferior recordings like the BOSTON POPS ORCHESTRA. They did a "Raiders March" that is mindblowingly awesome. But the SW-Main Theme was lacking for me. Plus the Yub Nub Finale. As much as I prefer Victory Celebration. Yub Nub is cool to hear from time to time.
2) The Liner Notes are brilliant. This is true of both the '93 Anthology and SE Recordings. Especially the description of the similarities in style between the Fox Fanfare and main Theme. I think that is from the Anthology however.
And to you GK:
When did a release of ANH come out in a two disc RSO version? I have the original LP's.

I got the original vinyl 20th Century Star Wars soundtrack in 1977. Around 1985-86, RSO released a cd version of this soundtrack. It was produced by Polygram in West Germany. So I picked that up since my vinyl copy was pretty worn by then.

I still would recommend, if you only owned one version of the OT soundtracks, to get the 1997 RCA SE releases as opposed to the 1993 Anthology. Of course, owning both is better.
